Expired, forgotten, spoiled rotten.

Hey browncoats,

I consider myself a writer and I do write sci fi (I've been published but never paid) although I've never written fan fiction. I know a lot of people here on fff.net do so I wanted to pose a question to you. Do you consider your writing cathartic? What are your motivations in writing and what do you get out of it? Is it the experience or emotional release of writing or the joy of having others read your story? Is it a collaborative community as in, you get to read more stories from a world you're interested in and write so that others can have the same experience?

Alright that's really four questions. I think I've lead the witness enough. No motive here besides curiosity.

on the globe that gave me birth.
Let me rest my eyes on the fleecy skies
and the cool, green hills of Earth.

Well, all the other writers are cool. And they escape my self-criticism.

But me, I have become a squeeing fangirl. Shoot me. :(

I write because I am compelled to, there's no other word for it. I gain nothing from it, actually it makes me waste a lot of time that I could be putting towards volunteer work or civic duty.

Though getting reviews is... addicting. I think maybe I'm starved for approval or something. That would just round out my general degree of patheticness. I try to be cool about it though. In fact, I really ought to discourage reviewing. I've become far too talkative for my liking, and becoming dependent on people being polite to me is unacceptable.

I do like talking to people though. I've met a lot of good people around here. I actually prefer to talk about THEIR stuff, their lives. It's more interesting.

i have no special affinity for fiction, and rarely feel the urge to write anything. i write fanfic for the same reason that i was attracted to fanfic: it maddens me that the narrative was left unfinished.

i am, much to my shame, not a fanfic enthusiast or writer so much as a closeted mal/inara shipper. mal and inara need to smooch, or at least have a cathartic blow out and die miserably, and fanfic provides an excellent avenue for exploring these impulses...

Back when I wrote fanfic here, I wrote what came to me. Musta been cathartic-- I wrote what I had to say, lately haven't had anything to say, so haven't been writing. I've got about 6 or 8 pieces on the HDD, started and not complete, and have no idea what to do next about any of them.

I used to write fanfic but don't any longer but I love reading it and am a total shamless hussy when it comes to any Nathan based character fanfic, I'm not fussy (except for the boring baby/ family fics) give me good angst or smut any day.

Saying that I can happily spend hours if not days scouring fanfic sites for stories so please to all you fanfic authors out there, keep em coming.

I have plenty of ideas but no talent to bring them to life.

Cheers, Debs

I saw a few of your stories, I don't think they were bad. Mal/Kaylee I have to admit isn't my thing, but there's plenty of people who do like them together, and I'm sure what you wrote made someone happy. And I hope writing it made you happy. :)

As much as I trash my own writing and wish I'd never started, and sometimes I wonder if I'll ever be happy with what I've written, but writing IS a guilty pleasure for me. All joking aside, that really is why I write. I have ideas, and they want out. Some of them are fun.
