The video is up, and the reviews are in! My four year old called it "cool" and "fun," while my wife said "that wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be." You have to love her honesty.

Fun! I think I might actually recognize some of the scenery. One of those pioneer parks, I think, and maybe someplace up at the U of U? Unless you're BYU people, don't know much about Utah County.

Changed your concept a little from what I read before, but it works good. Haha, you totally wrote Mal in just to have a chance to wear your browncoat and run at the camera firing the assault rifle. :)

We filmed at Fort Bonaventura in Ogden, and ITT Tech in Murray.

And yeah, it's not the script I posted. My actress for River quit three days before filming. We recast the girl who was going to do Kaylee as River, and made a browncoat in 10 hours (no kidding). We finalized the story about an hour before we started shooting it.

Eep!

Well, I guess things never do go according to plan... It's great though that you all seemed to manage to adjust on the fly. Looks like it was fun, too.

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Great stuff! A lot of work went into this and you can tell.

Thanks for sharing. Mind if I post a link on some other sites?

I posted your film on this thread listing all the Firefly Fan Films that I know of:
http://fireflydvd.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=37708#37708

Nice job.
My only observation is that this story could have been told without the Firefly characters.
Another minute or two of dialog could have defined new 'verse characters
as hunters, smugglers, ranchers, etc.

I'm curious to know if most folks prefer seeing re-imaginings of established characters,
or the introduction of new characters to the 'verse?
I'm sort of thrown off when "not-the-people-I-know" play characters I think of as certain actors.

Like I said, only an observation.
The most important thing is to put out what satisfies your artistic vision.

Thanks,
Mike

Micjwelch - that was awesome!

I absolutely enjoyed this. So much fun and that's the best kind of entertainment. Seriously nice work. There are some beautifully observed moments in there like when River just walks along and shoots that guy on the floor without even glancing at him. Good observation. That's totally a thing River would do. Nice! Man nice.
Good work by that actor falling off the table aswell - that couldn't be easy with your hands strapped up. That's a genuine stunt.

I've done a few productions with friends and I know how much WORK is involved with something like this. Even though it may look small I know the endeavour was enormous, so well done with it all. From props to getting your crew and cast to meet-up on time and at the same location!

By the way what did you use to do the machine gun muzzle flashes? Was it after effects?

Again well done. I liked it alot. I will be showing it to some friends - they too will get a kick out of.

ACE!!!

That was me falling off the table. And yeah, that hurt. A lot. Even with a mattress on the floor.

The muzzle flashes are from www.detonationfilms.com. Most of their stuff is free. You just use a luma key or something similar to add them to your videos. Everything was done in Premiere Elements.

I fell on the floor when I read that!

Really, nice job! It was funny. Special effects were cool. And you just can't have too many Blue Sun decals in my opinion!

Doing any more episodes?

More shameless self promotion!

I've redone all of the effects, included original music from Philip Alexander De Lorenzo and Tally Deushane, and added an all new blooper reel. DVDs of the short film are being sent out for the CSTS screenings (along with some very fine hats that my wife knitted).
