Yup, this sums it up pretty well:

Aww, why do the trekkers get pictures?

Technically, the whole effort-to-get-the-show-back-on-air thing was done by Trekkers first. In addition to everything else.

Also, I think technically because Star Wars is six two-ish hour movies and Avatar is just one two hour movie, fourteen episodes is more time than either one. >_> So, you know. For obvious reasons, I consider both complaints irrelevant.

The Star Wars, Star Trek and Firefly points all seem pretty valid to me, although for a general list the Star Wars roleplaying bit should be changed to a Leia slave outfit. It's more widely recognised after Friends, Chuck and Fanboys used it.

Who ever did this obviously doesn't like Lost and sounds like they never did.

They should have a list for Buffy/Angel as well and maybe Doctor Who too.

Expired, forgotten, spoiled rotten.

Good list. I'd like to see this done with more shows.

I pray for one last landing,
on the globe that gave me birth.
Let me rest my eyes on the fleecy skies
and the cool, green hills of Earth.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Yep. Sums it up.

Gorram proud to be a browncoat too!!!

Yeah, they come off as bitter. Kinda brought down the rest of the funny.

Your math kinda sucks. The six Star Wars movies add up to close to 14 hours of run time (not counting the TV series). Firfly, at 45 minutes an episode, falls short - even if you add Serenity.

And where's you see a 2-hour Avatar? My ass would have appreciated a run-time closer to that.

Okay, still, the discrepancy is really not as much as it's made out to be. The "sci-fi" guide is misleading, pretending that Firefly has somehow so much less air time that it doesn't justify the response it gets. Clearly that has nothing to do with it.

I think it's a fair comparison, really. Compared to the other shows/franchises represented. It's not just air-time, but how that time impacted pop culture. Sure, Star Wars may not have that much more runtime than Firefly - but it's cultural impact was MASSIVE. The same (to an arguably lesser degree) with Trek, which also outdoes it in runtime by miles. And even Lost outdoes FF in both cultural impact and runtime. Avatar obviously has carved out quite a notch in the pop culture.

I dearly love me my Firefly - but it's niche of niche. The other franchises listed are on a different level, culturally speaking.

Hmm, then they should say that. Not some nebulous bit of nothing about air time that isn't really valid.

But I can concede your point.

TRAVELER

The fact that "Firefly" is on there says something. Where is "Stargate SG1" or "Farscape"? plenty of science fiction out there to choose from and "Firefly" makes it again.

Indeed.

Stargate has a movie, 10 seasons of primary show with multiple spin offs. Very impressive for Firefly. B5 and BSG didn't make the cut either.

Anyhows, the argument about how few episodes Firefly had is weak. People become fans because they identify with the show. Richard Hatch tried rebooting BSG for decades. Everyone in the biz thought he was a little nutty about it. I saw a website for fans of Buckaroo Banzai and their quest for a sequel. Avatar was full of cringe moments as far as the dialog and I'm not interested in the characters and their futures. Joss wrote great, precious characters. Almost every single line is worth quoting.

'nuff said.

I don't know, I like the show and this seems pretty spot-on.

But, hey, I also enjoyed the Star Wars prequels.
