If you were to sit down & share a bit of time with Malcolm Reynolds, how would he think of you?

*Malcolm thinking as we talked*

"He's a nice enough sort, all friendly and such, but a bit more on the pampered side than he's aware of. And a bit of a whiner when it comes to his upbringing. And all this martial-artsy talk...I think I'll conjure up an excuse to leave now... pass him onto Jayne."

Okay, he'd not instantly bond with me, I suspect.

What 'bout YOU all??

Be honest!

Pftth, he'd be thinkin what most people do when they meet me in person.
"geeze, what a hardass.."

Followed by me gettin in some kinda moral/political argument with Jayne and winding up heaved out the window - ain't about force, it's about leverage, and he's taller than me, heh heh.

Now YOU Frem, I could see holding a long & productive conversation with Mal, even to the point of gettin' asked on the crew. Of all the peeps on this site, I conjure Mal might just cotton to you the most.
Jayne? He'd most probably want your ear, but that's not the question at hand.

"Oppyh, I don't care for your fancied ways, all stiff and pretty. I suggest you turn round and walk the other way now. Look back at me for just a jot, and my pistol may find a reason to get used.

In other words, keep walkin, or I'll shoot you where you stand".

Are you THAT anticipating a displeasing face-to-face, Oppyh?
I tend to think you underestimate your ease with peeps, even naughty ones like Mal...

Well initially I think it'd be something like this:

"This Ric guy he's either real short or he's very far away! No... I was right... He's short"

A little later.

"So he's 'fraid o' guns, can't help Kaylee in the engine room because he goes moon eyed over her, almost gets squashed by Jayne when Jayne sits down to dinner on account of Jayne not seeing him, makes Wash's shirts look positively bland, Zoe seems to want to mother him which is odd? River seems to find him amusing and she don't stop giggling, the Doc seems to think he's a quirk because he never gets sick, Book tends to get angry around him, Inara keeps asking him to paint her shuttle, and the wife? Well... Saffron she complains he keeps looking down her top!"

"Yeah he's going out the airlock!!!!"

Mal's thoughts?

He's a likable enough fella with a sense of humour that rattles Jayne up good and proper. Wash likes him for that.
He seems to have a soft spot for River as he's always sticking up for her and looking after her.
He can certainly handle a sword but don't know his way 'round a pistol. He might come in handy at the next shindig.
I like the man's views on religion which means Book has his work cut out for him. Maybe he'll stop pestering me with his 'special hell' now and move on to him.

I suspect he'd offer me a job, one way or 'nuther.

"He's qualified on demolitions and nukes, knows his way round a gattlin cannon. Can outrun the fastest Alliance cruiser. Spots an Operative a mile away. Can even hold his own in Alliance territorial court. Don't know that I'd trust him round the women folk, specially Inara. Shūdāizi kuàxià wù!"

No, that was a worst case scenario. If anything the dynamic would be closer to Mal/Wash...which is saying a whole lot considering they weren't exactly best friends. I think Wash was funnier than Mal, and Mal sort of resented him for it. Just my take.

"Short stuff needs a ladder just to look at me. Reckon she's alright though. Kaylee's cottoned to her fast, Jayne's helping her rattle the Doc up pretty good, which is damned good work for anybody. She hid Wash's dinosaurs from him and sent him hunting...she might just make it."

MINCINGBEAST

If I were to sit down and share time with Captain Reynolds, it would be on my terms. That is, he would be bound by law, and on my glittering Alliance Cruiser en route to a penal colony. Under no other circumstances would I suffer the company of such direputable ruffian.

I would not give one whit what Captain Reynolds thought of me. But if I were to squander imagination on him, I bet he would either be thinking "Ow!" or "Lame!" or "Wow, this Purple Belly asshole is really awful at interrogation."

Operative: "Its worse than you know..." Mal: "It usually is."

About me Mal would say, 'well she knows computers and may be of some use, some time, but she sure is 'snarky', we got enought 'snarky' already. Maybe Kaylee could teach her something about the engines, and give Kaylee some back up, she can handle a gun and does know which end is up. Not totally useless...

MincingBeast? BWAHAHA! Love it!

Actually, I can't dream up a scenario where Mal would have occasion to meet a Core World secretary for a real estate office. *shrug* AND vice versa.

Maybe in a bar on a wild frontier vacation of mine?

Considering his general contempt for happy Core dwellers, I imagine he'd be quite rude to me, denigrate my interests and we would part in mutual contempt.

I think Captain Mal Reynolds would find me quite dull and boring, and he'd be looking for an excuse to get away as fast as possible.....kinda like Nathan Fillion did when I met him 2 years ago in Orlando. OK, maybe I'm not THE most dull person in the world, but there's little common ground to discuss with the Captain (except maybe mutual hatred of the Fed Govt.), and as far as Nathan goes, I guess after a couple of days of meeting & greeting throngs of fans, even he can get a bit worn out. My brief time with him was still a big thrill for me, as he was very charming and funny.

What? You'd be high on the list of folk the crew would be interested in. As a real estate agent you would have access to some major grandiose property. Also you would have the confidence of some very rich and wealthy players on a Core World and as such I can see you being the perfect target for a Serenity style 'Sting' operation. It could involve the entire crew - but most likely it'd be Mal and Inara pretending to be in the market for a luxrious palacial home, and they'd request you show them around some homes. While Inara distracts you with stories of off world property Mal would be scopig out the premises and gathering information about security cameras, lazer sensors etc etc....

Scenario dreamt up.

GOLDBRICK

I was a soldier once but I'm a total pacifist now and deplore violence so I wouldn't be of much use in the field, much like Wash. I have some minor electronics know-how and used to fly small planes, so I could be an extra pair of hands here and there, like Book.

Also, my professional background is in finance and contracts, so I might be able to help a bit with the dry business side of things.

The post of ship's cook is wide open and I have an interest in that, although hardly a "sixth sense" for it which seems to be a prerequisite for a job on Serenity.

Eventually I'd join in at the barbells and argue Buddhism with Book, and probably lose too many hands of "chores" or whatever they call that card game.

Cap'n Mal wouldn't relate to me much at all, I suppose, but I'd round out his crew and I have a minor sense of humor.

In sum, I think I'd have to be very careful not to wear any red jerseys while planetside, and I'd make sure Mal knew both of my names.
