If V the original series was cancelled back in the 80's and has made a successful comeback, then there's always a huge hope that Firefly will return. Hope springs eternal.

Hope can be a good thing but bear in mind the new V isn't a continuation. It takes the base idea and goes in (some) different directions, with different cast/characters etc.
If this where to occur for Firefly in future then chances are it would be the same principal. It wouldn't be the cast or crew we recognise, nor Joss etc being involved behind the scenes. It wouldn't be the Firefly we love.
Plus the original V mini-series was a success, it was the following TV series that was cancelled. We all know the reasons why Firefly didn't make it but I'll just say that to the people that matter it wasn't a success. So in the eyes of a network - why bring it back?

It's nice to think about but I don't want to wait that long. My hope goes in something being done once Fox doesn't have the rights to it.

JONGSSTRAW

In 1983 I watched V as a network TV Movie "event" and thought it was great.

But it was over.

Then they came back and did another 2-hour movie called V The Final Battle. I thought that was even better than the original movie.

But it was over.

Then they came back again, this time with a weekly series that ran for almost one full season. I liked the series too, although I could sense it fading fast, and then one day it just vanished from the air.

Now it was over.

But lo and behold, a new series emerges 25 years later, with Firefly's Morena, and again I like the show.

Why "V" has had this amazing 27-year journey afforded to it is somewhat baffling to me, as I honestly never once in my life met anyone who would call themselves a big fan; or as any Browncoat would go on and on about their love for the show and hope for a new Firefly series or movie. I guess it's just the breaks, and a lot of luck. So there should always be some optimism for Firefly's return one day.

I know V the mini-series was successful. It was the actual series that got cancelled. If 20+ years later V got a revamp and is successful this time, then Firefly has hope at some time in the future. As I said hope springs eternal. Even if the series makes a oomeback(same characters?) there is always hope. Keep the hope alive.

From what I've read they wouldn't exactly call the new series a success. I think it's on the destined to be canceled block at this point.

Glen Larson was always listed as a consulting producer for the BSG remake. A reimagined Firefly might not be totally Joss free.

That was merely contractual though - he had nothing to do with the show.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Hope is a good thing, as is faith. I have hope too that the story will continue in some form. I have faith Joss won't forget about us.

Hey, I'm a browncoat. Hope and faith are all we have to keep us going at times.

Hope and faith is what keeps Browncoats going and going. As far as saying V is a success is that has lasted much, much longer than the original series ever did.

Not to be nitpicky but....

The original had 2 episodes for the mini-series, 3 for the Final Battle and 19 for the following series. That makes 24 in total.
The new series has 12 episodes once it's current run is finished (4 last year, 8 this year).
The original had twice as many episodes. So sorry but the new series hasn't lasted much, much longer. At least so far it hasn't. If it does get a second series then things may differ.

As for Firefly I will always hope that the story continues in some form, at some time. I want more TV episodes. I'd be very esctatic with more movies (even DTV). I'd be fine with an animated version (provided they could get the original cast to do voices). I don't really want comics as I don't read them anymore, but even that would do.

As people say. You never know.

I didn't know that V the orginal series was on that long.

Firefly was never given a chance to thrive (when it was still on Fox.) Before Fox even aired the show, it was being treated like the unwanted red-headed stepchild chained up and locked in the basement. Curses upon the power that were at Fox at the time(the ones responsible for Firefly being cancelled.)

Hope and faith will keep Browncoats going and going(like the Energizer Bunny), we will not go down without a fight(for Firefly, in whatever form it takes.)

Part of the problem with Firefly was cost per episode versus return. Joss was offered a chance to continue the show at half the budget.

CG and compositing was a good sized chunk of the high cost which is falling quickly.

I think the biggest hurdle is whether Joss and his crew of writers (many of which currently work on Castle) could be lured back to work on a show with a smaller budget. Not likely. Maybe Joss might be interested...but it takes a village to sing the Hero of Canton.

I personally now know that most of the cast are surprisingly open to casting on small projects. Can't tell you how I know just yet, but let's say they are busy, but willing.

With considering cost and other things involved with the making of a series sci-fi or otherwise is always forefront, as well as whether the former cast would consider doing Firefly again. It sounds as if the former cast members are open to doing the series again. This is good, hope does spring eternal. Browncoats forever on this.

Long live Cap'n Mal and co.
