FOX's Official Firefly site is back up with all the original stuff intact.

http://www.fox-tv.com/firefly/

This is rather strange and theories are being tossed around on the Official Firefly Board as to why this happened.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

This is... interesting...

How long has it been back? I suppose it's possible that it was unintentional. Otherwise, I think Fox may be trying to make a statement of some kind (though what statement I have no idea).

You got a wife? All I got is that dumbass stick sounds like it's raining.

Don't really know how long, or whether it's been gradual. Last time I checked, some of the links worked, and some didn't, but more seem to be coming back. Maybe a response to DVD sales ... maybe something else. I might not be the only one who'd forgive them real fast, if they decided to give Joss a second chance. But that's only a (brave) speculation, and probably bears no relationship whatsoever to the truth.

Odd. Could it have been put back up due to the DVD release? It seems unlikely that it would have anything to do w/ the movie.

Interesting....

Blatent attempt to shine in reflected glory, I think.
If more DVDs are sold, either by word of mouth from existing owners, or even eventual post-movie interest, then Fox makes more money off a franchise they have lost the reins of.
I won't want to give them a single pence/cent but I want that region 2 set to join my region 1 import,- dammit!

It can be found here; http://forums.prospero.com/foxfirefly/start

But be warned, it is a much more larger Browncoat community and much more rabid than Fireflyfans.net.

You can also get into political debates with Adam Baldwin and maybe read a post from the Captain (Nathan Fillion) once in a while.

Most of the people over there are old Browncoats as in they have been around since Firefly aired. Fireflyfans.net seems to get the newbies as this can be accessed from a search engine looking up Firefly while the Official Board does not.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

Interestingly, FFF.net is the 2nd listing when you search for "Firefly Keep Flyin" on Google (this is what many of us have been writing on our bills). The 1st listing is a bit odd; anyone know what this is:

I would like to point out that FFF.NET is older than the OB and the Official Firefly Website by about a month. And I'm probably one of the oldest Browncoats there is, having been around since "before" Firefly finished filming its pilot.

If you look at the very first feature that appeared here on FFF.NET, it's dated 5.11.2002 about 13 days before the first message was ever posted on the OB.

I just wanted to mention that for the purpose of clarifying where FFF.NET fits witin the Firefly fandom, as there seems to be a small misunderstanding with some fans as to when and why FFF.NET was first constructed.

That's not the story I heard over at the Official Board concerning the creation of FFF.net. They said that you (Haken) and some other guy named Jason or something got pissed off at something that happened over at the Official Board and created your own site being FFF.net.

So which story is true? Now I am really confused.

I also recently found another Browncoat community called Fireflyers.net ( www.fireflyers.net). Not very active though.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

You heard wrong. And that story is false for the following reasons:

1. FFF.NET went online before the Official Firefly Website and Message Board, which means that I could not have gotten pissed off at anything or anyone on the OB (because it didn't exists yet) and then go and build FFF.NET as a result.

2. I rarely post on the OB except for Firefly news related items. If there was a disagreement between myself and anyone on the OB, you should be able to find those posts to support this claim of being "pissed off." I'm definately sure you're not going to find any.

3. Being pissed off is the last reason in the world I would choose as a motivating factor for me to spend huge amount of time and money to do something that many in the "real world" I know feel is a big waste of time. Just think about it. I wrote software from scratch to power a website for a TV series on FOX about space cowboys? Everyone I've ever spoken to about it in real life thinks I'm nuts. And when Firefly was cancelled, man, I had no answers then. It's one thing to love a TV series and spend your free time watching it, but when you're part of an active movement to promote and keep a TV series alive for fellow fans, it is hard work. Wanting to do something because one feels pissed off will only go so far in this world, which means that FFF.NET, now nearing its second anniversary (and have seen the Firefly Official site, the OB, and the TV series itself come and go and back again), was born out of something more.

I don't know who you heard the rumor from nor the reason why it was told to you, but just so there is no confusion on anyone's part--in the end, we're all Browncoats who love 'Firefly.' That's all that matters.

AMEN Haken!

I've been hanging out here since the beginning. I also hang out regularly on OB. I keep hearing about animosity between the various Browncoat "clans" but never actually see any.

Instead I think we should focus our energy on our grassroots promoting of the movie and DVDs. To that end may I recommend looking through some of the guerilla marketing ideas on my site: www.serenitymovie.net As soon as I get back into town I plan to add a bunch of movie specific ideas.

Keep flyin,

After more than a year on both boards, I never heard of this rumour, which is all it is. But the main point is rumours shouldn't be passed around unmarked as such.

Interesting how one's recollection becomes fact over time. It's the stuffs of myths and legends.

But since we have the luxury of the internet at our disposal, where events are recorded and timestamped, the events being referred to did not happen in that manner. Now, I do have a recollection of events during the early days of the fandom, many of which are rather humorous, but that would be like digging up old dirt.

Like I said, FFF.NET went online before the Official Website and Message Board.

Again, interesting though.

Well, the idea of fighting amongst browncoats just seems a tragic waste anyway. We're all here to share a common love of this series, its characters, and its 'verse. I know that I'm grateful to Haken for the work he does on this site, and am sorry to think that people are spreading rumors. The "site competition" thing happens in LOTR fandom too, and is just idiotic--as if there isn't enough broadband to accommodate multiple locations for fan communities to form! Let's share our resources, not hoard them!

Someone should write something to clear this up. I have suggested before on the Official Board that the Browncoat community should do things more together and create a stronger bond overall. It was met with negative reaction over at the Official Board when I posted that so I didn't even bother to post something similiar over there. It seems many of them like the Browncoat community segregated. I post on both and visit both but that doesn't seem the norm which is some what sad in a way.

Not sure it would do any good RKL. Most likely it would just further fracture the community. Any attempt to shed light on the truth would cast doubt on the "recollections" of members of the OB. Do that, and they will deny the truth, most likely vehemently. People from both boards will jump in, taking sides, and spouting opinions, and we get a big ruttin' flame war.

Better, as Haken said, to let it go. If it is ever an issue that needs to be visited, the necessary stamped information can be pulled up to validate Haken's site was up first.

Personally I wish there was not this secular attitude amongst Browncoats, but even Browncoats are human. Human nature is to tie oneself to a person, place or ideal to feel as if they "belong", which leads to feelings of loyalty and a need to defend that which they feel a part of, even against ones of like minds. I guess you could call it a tribal instinct.

Me, I like it here. I go to the official board for news and the occasional post on movie related subjects, but pretty much just lurk. This board, IMO, is a bit easier to navigate, and to me the people here are a bit more open and approachable.

okay, finally working again at home, and yeah, belatedly saw the message on the sight about the need for quicktime after posting. Although i do have it, guess not the necessary version.

at the beginning of the week, wondered if the site reappeared to coincide w/ Nathan's bday. But still up so either april fool's or fox is thinking about rerunning.

Weird convo w/ a friend today though, mentioned firefly to her and she said she saw an episode recently on tv -- she thought wb or upn. She's from the DC area and i guess its possible for it to be in syndication among local affiliates? More likely someone playing dvd but she seemed to believe it was airing w/ commericials. oh well, just thought i'd mention it in case anyone could corroborate

I've narrowed it down to just the streaming videos not working. My software is fully up to date, and on several of them it gives a "file not found" error, so I'm pretty confident that the stuff just isn't there.

I think the rumors flying around (I personally haven't heard any) of the animosity between Browncoat "clans" is a plot by the silly Fox execs who were too stupid to realize what they had in Firefly until it was too late (after they had sold the movie rights). Yup, yup. jk.
