May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Saw this posted on the OB:

Quote:

Firefly:
Gorgeous actress Gina Torres was at the Sci-Fi Slam convention in Pasadena and revealed a mini-scoop. After talking a little about how disappointed she is with the fact that "Angel" is ending, Torres added "l is not lost, because Joss [Whedon] wants to get David [Boreanaz] on "Serenity" I hear". Looks like Angel might be appearing in the "Firefly" movie. She also confirmed Shepard Book (Ron Glass) will definitely be in the movie.

The link to the tidbit of news is from the Dark Horizons site found here:

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news04/040329b.php

Comments? Thoughts? Not really what I would call an official confirmation of Ron being signed on, but it backs up what MalsGal said in her thread.

"May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one."

I saw this earlier interesting news and you'd think its definately a possibility considering the source. Ive got to say though as much as I enjoy Angel and think David's a good actor Id prefer he wasnt in the film we need to let this film stand alone and appeal to people who dont neccesarily enjoy the Whedon universe. If the media start tagging the film as a film by the guy who does Buffy 'starring' Angel no one will give it a chance. Just my thoughts Im sure people will disagree

I agree with that - I had to do alot of arm twisting to get my friends to watch the show - all of the "It's nothing like Buffy! - You'll like it." variety.

The only way this movie will be a hit is if we spread word of mouth - to accomplish this we should begin a programme of makeovers for nerds -

This movie doesn't have the cred of Star Wars (Yet) and won't be a style-ised as the Matrix. So our first audience are nerds who like scifi and who the fuck cares about word of mouth from nerds? No one - we need to make NERDS look like the beautiful people if we have any hope of getting this movie to see profit (105 million dollars for it not to be considered a failure - more for anything of real recognition.)

I honestly think the makeovers for nerds programme would lead to a more peope seeing the movie than having Angel there to drag on over all the Buffy fans who've yet to give Firefly a go.

I'd have to agree. I think it would detract if "Angel" were on Serenity. It would make it seem to "Making this movie so my friends can have a job"ish. (ok so that wasn't the best way to explain it, but youget the idea.)

Maybe "Adam Sandler/Rob Schneider"ish would have been better.

Actually I agree, I think it would be better to leave it be and stand on its own, the actors in the show are cool enough without having to put DB in. I know Joss probably wants to for his own reasons, but I wouldn't do it myself either.

I'm all for it, especially if it's a recurring role. David does need a new series now ya know!

And also Joss ALWAYS reuses people from show to show.

It seems like a win-win to me for all involved.

I could see a Cameo for the actor. Although Db is talented. it would be a real stretch. But it could be done, Just as long as he ain't alliance. He'd make a shiny young shepherd though. Gorammit I'm torn now.

David + Serenity the Movie = Bad Guy.

I could totally see him in Alliance uniform, people. And he'd have fun doing it. Better yet - Blue Sun black ops or blue-hand dude or whatever we're calling those guys right now.

That's right! But I don't know if I could take that much Men of the Whedonverse yumminess on one screen. The regular Firefly men are seriously thuddalicious as it is. Adding DB could get dangerous...

Db would make a shiny purple-belly, if such a think is possible. He would definitly fill out one of those psuedo-fascist 'doorman' uniforms quite well. You know, men in uniform and all that.

Please don't flame me here, but I have never watched Angel, other than a couple of minutes here and there while channel surfing. But I agree with those that say it might appear Whedon is doing this just because Angel got canceled. But if Joss wants it, it will probably be done.

But instead of being with the Alliance, what do you think of the idea of DB as a Reaver?

I don't want to ever *see* a reaver up close enough to be able to point at the screen and say "THAT's David Doreanaz!!!" That would be just silly.

The shiny thing about the reavers is that you don't see them. What you don't see is always way scarier than what you do see. Like watching a spooky movie when you're all alone in the house - the teeniest creak has you propping chairs in front of all the doors and turning all the lights on. Reavers, Reaver ships and Reaver music should continue to have the same effect.

Gina Torres and Nathan Fillion were on Angel and Buffy respectively, and no one complained about that. When Angel comes back in new episodes, Adam Baldwin is playing a rather major part, so it seems fine to have David Boreanaz show up. We've already had a cameo from one of Angel's fights, so why not the man himself?

I think it's fine as long as the role isn't too major...I think that it has to be clear that he's not the lead, but it should still be more than just a cameo. And I could really see him being a "Bad Guy", not Alliance persay, maybe another scavenger or something of the like.

If Joss wants David in Serenity then I don't have a problem with it, because I know Joss will make it work. I can actually see David as an ex-army buddy of Mal and Zoe's.

Now if it was the execs at Universal that wanted David to draw in the Buffy and Angel crowd then I would have a problem with it.

It'd be good if he plays someone who is nothing at all like Angel or Mal. He would make a great bad guy, just like Nathan Fillion did, as long as he showed some versatility. And I have confidence in Joss's ability to keep his characters diverse.

I'm thinking he should be an Alliance officer. Anything roguish would be too close to Angel or Mal, and he doesn't have the sort of G-Man look you need for the Blue Hands.

In a strange way DB already has almost been on Firefly...

In the train job, his stunt / body double appeared as one of Niska's thugs.

Didn't know that until the commentary on my DVDs...

A low key role, but with substance... I am liking it

Well, I'm with those who don't want him in a big role, but I did like the idea of him as a Shepherd. Or -- hey, are there male Companions?

But if I had my choice of main character Buffy/Angel alum to be in the movie, I'd hafta go with Anthony Stewart Head or Alexis Denisof. Either or both would make excellent Alliance stooges or blue hands.

Hee hee, wise words O'maker of Reavers. DB could pull off a Reaver, but Channain is right about showing TOO much of a boogy-man. Look what Trek did with the Borg - juat about ruined 'em totally.

But, I would suppose DB would either be an Alliance villan or the "old Pal" of Mal.

While Shiny might have been joking and all, it brings up an interesting point. Though I somehow doubt we'd see David Boreanaz in the role, it stands to reason that there might be male Registered Companions in the 'verse. I don't think it was ever stated that it was a strictly female profession, and it seems like a very Joss thing to have a man suddenly show up as a colleague of Inara. See how the other characters react to his profession. Food for thought.

I don't think that Firefly fans are Nerds. In fact I think most Nerds don't like Firefly because it focuses more on characters and less on Aliens & Spaceships. They don’t no how to deal with Sci-fi that deviates from the Star Trek/Star Wars formula.

dont forget that the st/sw formula is NOT what they are doing today. sw has become nothing but an effect orgy without soul and st degraded into a parody of itself thanks to the writers.

so i think firefly is EXACTLY in line with the (original) st/sw formula and has everything that they are completely lacking today.

and on topic:
when i read that my first thought was d.b. with vampire makeup + reaver makeup just for the fun of it. but such a .5 second cameo might be a little less than joss has in mind so.. ill find out 2005 i guess.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I think David would make a great villan for the movie, and a great nemesis for the show if it returns.

I think the "operative" might work well for David. We have seen him play dark roles before when they had flashbacks in Angel, or when he reverted to the Angelus persona in Buffy or in Angel. I think he could easily play a dark character on Serenity that is ruthless and twisted.

I trust in Joss to write him into the script well. I trust in DB's acting ability. If done well, it could draw Angel fans to the movie, and the show if it makes it back to the small screen.

JARED, I think you are selling your self short. If you like Firefly because of the characters and relationship on the show then I don't think you fit into the category of Nerd, and by saying that you are not interested in Star Trek and Star Wars anymore because lack of quality writing is further proof of you lack of Nerddoom.

A Nerd to me is somebody that is more interested in the science and technology than the characters and relationships. I might like the science and technology in Firefly, but it is the characters and the relationships that made me a fan of the show.

careful, youre talking so somebody with "the science of star wars" on his shelf (which btw. isnt what you may think and in fact is quite interesting to read as it covers many "real" scientific theories as possible explanations for whats done in the movies).

Naughty thought here - we could see DB in Serenity as Angel!
After all, he isn't going to die unless someone stakes him, and he's already survived several 100 years...

If Angel was around on earth-that-was when the ships were leaving, why shouldn't he hop on one?

Maybe all the humans left earth to get away from the demons?

(This is NOT a serious suggestion, just an ammusing thought...)

I totally had the same thought! In fact, it was the first thing to pop into my head when I read about the possibility of DB showing up in Serenity.

But, yeah, I'm not sure I would want to see it actually happen. Firefly seems to be such a different verse than the Buffy/Angel world. I'd rather see each world hang on to its individuality.

LOL! Well put! But I would add that nerds aren't just science people. I proudly call myself a nerd and I don't know squat about science. I get excited over clever lines in novels. I'm a literature nerd. That's one reason Firefly's so good. Lots of potential analysis. So I guess I'd add

Well, I'm not an Angel fan and quite frankly I don't think David Boreanez (sp?) acts all that well. Angel seemed (from the few eps I watched most of the way through) to be a character that went around stone faced* and smashed everything he didn't like to bits. But that's just my opinion. I'd rather he not be in Serenity because as has been mentioned before, it'll probably drive a big part of a potential audience away with people thinking this is just Angel in a new Universe.

I'd like to see just the original crew come back with new actors (maybe even actors that have never been on one of Joss's shows as a guest star) as the minor characters. No big names for the minor characters because the press will focus on that and make analogies between Serenity and the actor's other movies. And that is not neccessarily a good thing, it's also not completely bad.

*Not stone faced=high on drugs, but stone faced=no emotions showing at all, just a complete blank, unsmiling face.
