Okay... the thread title is not so much an announcement (yet), as a goal to work toward.

The impossible has been done: Serenity has a shiny bright greenlight and will fly again... with the best damn crew EVER in the 'verse!

So let's keep those DVD sales goin' like gangbusters. We have a wonderful movie marketing vehicle in those spiffy DVDs. The more new Firefly Fans created between now and the BDM release... the better the box office returns will be.

And we want Serenity to have kick a$$ box office!

So keep spreading the word and converting new fans... even if it means tieing them down at first, or bribes, or unrelenting pestering... or even being nice (sometimes that works too). 'cause you know, the odds are once someone really watches Firefly, they become a fan.

And then they'll thank you... and ask to be untied from the chair.

___________________NEW STUFF____________________

In the spirit of the 'Guerilla Marketing' endeavor... Fan Power can go a long way in promoting more sales of the Firefly DVD. I've created easy to print black & white Firefly posters for this purpose... but thought it might help to reinvigorate this approach by reviving the idea.

****** PLUS>> There are TWO New Poster designs! *******

The entire collection is located at an appropriately designed black & white, bare bones, web page:

http://the11thhour.home.att.net

There are images for viewing with links for larger files suitable for printing. Get into the 'rebel mood' and try some guerilla marketing... I've done it, and it's way fun! Plus, it's doing something positive out there 'in the world' for Firefly.

Our Goal: One Million Firefly DVDs Sold... And Beyond!

Thanks a lot for your energy and time!

Another good idea I've used is to print the banner:

onto label paper with a color printer, thereby creating pretty sticky labels you can put anywhere (use a paper cutter and a full sheet label if you - most likely - don't have precut labels that fit exactly). 11thHour, if you have the time maybe you could make a version of the big banner:

without the "DEC 9" bit which is a little confusing now?

Your posters are excellent for the outdoors, but I'd also really appreciate a different smoother design with colors, photographs and perhaps more text for A4 posters (or the similar American format, I've forgotten its name - 'letter'?) for cafes and coffee shops - maybe a bit in the style of the banner. Unfortunately, I don't have the means (or skills, I dare say) to make it myself. If something like this is already available somewhere, please link me to it.

Sorry to be asking even more of you :-p
But we all so want the movie to be a thundering success! If someone else feels up to the task, please go ahead - if the poster is well done, I'll make sure to put it up lots of places.

Thanks for the kinds words... good to know that the images strike a positive chord! And I've updated the large version of the banner; it has the "available now... " text.

I made a 'billboard' style image in the style of the web banner. It features the whole cast and is a much bigger format.

I love doing art for Firefly... but reality calls and I have to get back to some projects... deadlines are a screamin'. But I wanted to make the posters available as soon as possible so they could do some good.

When my time frees up a bit, I'd like to design something that includes an announcement about the Serenity movie in addition to the DVD promo. I also have ideas for a Jayne and a Book guerilla style posters, which I'd LOVE to do... but just don't have the time right now...

Thanks so much for your enthusiasm!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Love the billboard style image 11th hour. Now to make it into sticky backed labels to post where ever I can find room around town.

I think that the 1 million DVD mark is attainable. Once the Region 2 market opens I think we will see the numbers shoot up.

We all need to pitch the DVD as much as we can, and convert as many people as we can. The more converts we win over, the more people will go see the movie. It is obvious to all of us that more ticket sales increase the chance of the movie being a success, which in turns betters the chances of Universal moving forward w/ a return of the show as a TV series.

It doesn't take much effort to talk to people about Firefly. I know it doesn't take much to get me to talk about the show or the DVDs. The promise of the upcoming movie will help to sway those that have begged off getting interested due to the show being cancelled.

Are stickers really a good idea? I think this comes dangerously close to vandalism. If I were a retailer, I'd be furious if someone pasted stickers on my property. Same goes for sign posts and other public property.

Just my opinion.

The posters and all are SHINY! :-) Gotta print some for my desk at work!

But, I have a stupid newbie question - where is it that we can see how many DVDs have actually sold? I've seen Amazon.com rankings, but no actual sales figures. Duh ...

Print them on Post-its - that will stick and come off if retailers freak majorly.

Also, listing the firefly fan sites -- including Haken's genious here -- and sticking the post-it on the back of ever video in the rack might boost fan involvement.

I did not mean for it to sound like I am condoning the defacing of property. Obviously we would get permission to post any signs, posters, or stickers. To do otherwise would be unworthy of a Browncoat.

Just wanted to clarify.

Shiny! Very cool stuff - I love the bigger banner. Consider it posted all over Copenhagen, at least

I realise how much time you've already put into this and appreciate it a lot! And if you at some point find the time to do even more, we'll be sure to make that worth your while, too.

A big thank you

Very true. Guerilla Marketing is about fan based promotion and getting the word out in a grass roots way... it also has an edgy and non-mainstream quality to it. But this doesn't mean crossing the line into being obnoxious!

The sticker idea is very good and can be very effective. When the stickers look nice and permission is obtained before hand (in the case of posting on private property) then it's an excellent tool.

The black & white posters can be placed in many venues, and were designed to be seen from a distance. So long as they are placed in a way that doesn't do damage or clutter private property, then it's fine.

Part of the fun and effect of guerilla marketing is the edgy, non-mainstream part of it... it's what gets it noticed and gives it personality. People are going to get very curious about a show that inspires people to go out and promote it themselves.

Wow! The images are going International! So cool. I thank you, and I'm sure Firefly thanks you.

So nice of you to say. It's good to know that the art will be used to promote Firefly... that's why it was created. Also it helps all of us to stay motivated in keeping Firefly lively and increasing the following. I'd love to do even more projects, but I need to get back to work that actually pays money... you see, I have this life long addiction to food and shelter...

When I have some new creations I'll post them for everyone. It's good to know that they'll be welcome and used by the Firefly Faithful!

Thanks so much.

Thanks, 11th hour! I love the b&w posters -- consider San Mateo Guerilla Marketed! :)

Please help Haken keep this site running by occasionally clicking on some of the sponsored ad links on the side of the page!

San Mateo is gettin' 'the guerilla treatment' ... nifty.

Another fan has also used the posters to make postcards... another good way to promote Firefly.

Thanks so much... you are Shiny!

When I was in a B&N recently, I pulled the only Firefly set off the DVD shelf, made a point of grinning at it, then set it down above the Buffy sets.

'Fraid I haven't done a lot, but every little bit....

That's the spirit!

Also, everytime new Firefly fans are created, they can then recruit more fans. It's like the old, "tell two friends, then they'll tell two friends, and so on, and so on..."

We also have the benefit of the movie being in production. People will be much more inclined to get the DVD set when they know that there will be more Firefly.

DVD sales figures aren't released with any regularity, so unless someone decides to publicize actual sales, we're all pretty much reliant on the Amazon rankings. There was, however, a story in the March 12 issue of Entertainment Weekly that said 200,000 FF DVDs had sold.

Had to dig a spell to find this thread...

Anyhoo, an update for those interested...

There are three new posters on my Firefly Guerilla Marketing web page... and they are Jayne! The Big Guy finally joins the collection, as it should be.

Here he be:

Here's the link to the web page. Have a looksee:

http://the11thhour.home.att.net

EXTRA NEWS;

I'm also working on getting 'copyright safe' versions of these images uploaded to a Cafe Press store. This way people can be walkin'-talkin' guerilla marketing for the Firefly DVD and the Serenity movie! So if you don't have the time to post the posters in a street marketing way... I'm sure that wearing a T-shirt can be an excellent alternative.

There are several Sci-Fi conventions happening this Summer and it is the perfect time to pimp... err, promote... the best show/movie in the 'verse to as many uninitiated folks as we can.
