As announced at the Creation Salute to Firefly this past weekend, we distributed our first donations between the five charities totaling $9,210 ($1,842 per charity) which reflects just our online donations through September 30, 2010. These donations have been sent, and received, by the charities last week.

There are additional in-person donations made in September, but are doing a final inventory of those transactions, after which those figures will be included in our next scheduled disbursement.

To date we've moved right around 1,500 DVD's. Our goal is 32,000 by September 1, 2011 which would raise around $500,000 for the charities selected. (FYI the goal of 32,000 was chosen based on a post on Whedonesque http://whedonesque.com/comments/14125)

Whedonopolis.com mentioned that while Jewel Staite "was at DragonCon in Atlanta, she got a chance to see the premiere of the Browncoats Redemption fan film. She said she was impressed. "That was not easy to do, especially with no money or anything," she said. "It's really incredible that they went to all that effort." She also said she bought a copy of the DVD." ( http://www.whedonopolis.com/article.php?story=20100927064945672)

Thank you for being part of the initial donation and thanks in advance for to those who will be part of future donations. With your help we can not only make our goal, but raise over 500,000 for charity and prove to the studios that this is what we all know it to be...STILL a community not to be taken lightly.

If you haven't yet, you can pick up your copy of the DVD at

Should we do banners? What would help Browncoats get the word out?

We're open to suggestions.

Well, first of all, were I still in school like last year, I'd whip up a poster for ya with Photoshop & Illustrator.
BUT...

Anyway, a poster to release to FF-like sites with Pultro featured prominently (face it, sex sells, and she's a hottie) with something like "Ever wonder what other some Independent Captains & their crew had to face after the events in "Serenity"?
Well, wonder no more.

REDEMPTION (like, BIG, & all colourful)"

Or some such. A hook to make 'em curious.

I'm relatively hard core, I didn't need that kind of advertising- but something like this might be good for the peeps on the fence concerning the purchase of a 'Fan made' flick.

FWIW.

I'm with Chris. Banners or some such along the lines of what he suggested would be great to spread the word with.

Well done to Mike and crew and on behalf of KNTR - thank you! I know others in KNTR have already said thanks, but from my little corner of it, I appreciate what you've done so much. On one level for the charity, on another for the fandom. Continuing the awesome giving and caring that Browncoats do, is just plain ole shiny!

That's awesome. How many copies has it sold and how much has been raised for charity to date?

My local Browncoats group always has a copy on hand when we do conventions at our fan table, we tell people about it and encourage them to watch it and buy it. I still haven't seen it, my dad and I want to, we're going to borrow a copy and then buy it if we like it, I think its a great idea and its cool that the money is coming in for the charities, great that you have a variety of charities that the money goes to.
