Firefly has hit 800 reviews but bad reviews continue to fly in. I am beginning to wonder whether or not there is a campaign against Firefly. Here are the latest bad reviews which are in a row...

Firefly has to be the worst show to ever make it to DVD., April 11, 2004
Reviewer: someone from usa
What where they thinking with this show? Cowboys in space plllleeeeaaaasssee. Such a silly show that never had a chance of making it on tv. I hear they are making a Firefly movie and im sure it will be a huge BOMB as the only people who like it are the fans of this rediculous show.

Firefly was canceled for good reason, April 11, 2004

I saw the complete season of FIrefly and I have to say I don't blame the network for canceling such a silly show.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

Don't worry about the bad reviews. They're probably from the shallow idiots who'd rather watch crappy Reality shows than quality programming like Firefly or Wonderfalls. A phrase used in the past, "the dumbing down of America", most certainly applies these days.

America loves a winner!

I've posted the 'anti Firefly' campaign idea before. Are these hacked off fans of Angel that are trying to get back at Joss or what ? I have no idea. What ever their origin,I'm convinced that there's some vast conspiracy at works here.

Sadlittleking - dumbing down of America. I think that has much to do w/ it right there. I scan the t.v. and the scripted reality craze is getting worse and worse. I figured by now it would have died down, but sadly....

Doesn't sound like they really watched the show or purchased the DVD's.. and in fact these poor reviews came in on the same day; makes one suspicous that it might just be the same troll.

That and the fact that both reviews use the word silly. It's the same person.

I get sick and tired of seeing crappy reviews like that for anything. [Same goes for reviews like "this is the best book ever!"]. Amazon should REALLY have some way to get rid of reviews that are completely unsubstantial.

Yeah, Amazon needs a way of verifying who writes these things. I'd understand a negative review if the person sounded intelligent...

My mom works for a publishing company and she's seen authors log on and post "Best book ever" reviews for their own books (and even reccomend their wife's latest novel 'in addition to')

But since fans of Firefly can string together more than a few sentences, I think our reviews are more convincing anyway. As long as Browncoats keep posting actual reviews instead of whatever those comments were, I think potential buyers will stay on our side (as DVD sales have shown)

Well what I do is rate the 'troll' reviews as not helpful and make sure I rate the especially well thought out reviews as helpful.

When it shows that 0 out of 25 people didn't find the bad review helpful and 115 out of 120 found a particular good review helpful - well that helps send a message to those reading the reviews.

Yep, these two reviews look like they were posted by the same troll. "Such a silly show" was used in both reviews, a big giveaway. Not to mention that the person misspelled 'ridiculous'. Nothing like bad spelling to lessen credibility.

We can even post additional reviews and mention that there is a certain, small, contingent of trolls that have nothing better to do than dis Firefly. Probably they're those juvenile 'Dark Angel' fanboys who still blame Firefly for the cancellation of DA.

Sad really.

He/she claims to have watched the entire season of a show that "I don't blame the network for canceling" ? Why would anyone watch an entire season of "such a silly show." Obviously a troll and someone, uh, lacking personal computing power.

Sure, bad reviews are bad, but reviews like this make me happy:

Quote:

I'd never heard of this show until I noticed the customer reviews while browsing through Amazon.com ... The response was so overwhelming that I HAD to check it out. It is without a doubt the best series I've ever seen. I was completely absorbed by the stories and characters, and watched the entire series in one sitting - I just couldn't stop. I hope another station picks up on this great show and carries it forward!! (and I can hardly wait to see the movie!!!)

Sure, it might just be another fan who saw it on TV anyway, but it still helps to see reviews like that :)

Just noticed too, not that many things with nearly this many reviews and still 5 stars :)

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

"Such a silly show"? Real in depth critque and well thought out reasons on why the show did not appeal to them.

This troll couldn't even spell ridiculous, as 11th Hour pointed out, so I think I would find any review by them questionable at best.

So this new troll, if they are in fact not the same person as the first, watch an entire 14 one hour episodes of a show they did not like, just so they could write a bad review that is summed up w/ "a silly show"? What a pile of go se.

It sounds to me like this troll or disgruntled fans of other shows theory is more probable than we might have first thought. It could very well be some people working to undermine the credibility of the show to keep it from making a comeback.

I would recommend against getting into a we said/they said type argument. Finger pointing usually doesn't help credability.

If you want to refute the remarks made by some of the trolls who claim that all the reviews were to the work of a few dedicated fans, try working in the 200,000 dvd sets sold number. There's no way only a handful of fans could be responsible for purchasing that many dvd sets.

Let's face it, not everyone will like everything. And Firefly has what could be a major strike against it -- you have to be fairly intelligent to get it. That's why I've watched and loved all Joss's shows, because he never EVER assumes his audience is stupid. Unfortunately, it means that if you are stupid (say, too stupid to spell ridiculous correctly), you may dismiss the shows as "silly," since that's easier than dealing with the fact that you're stupid.

I think the best way to handle it is vote for the good reviews, vote against the bad ones, and write your own if you haven't already.
