Just found this homepage.

Maybe it could be used as a model to fan-finance tv-shows as well. Or atleast webseries.
Wont be easy though.

The "won't be easy" is a certainty. Changing subjects from investing £10 in songs. There is an example of a regularly scheduled video show made by volunteers: Kevin Pollack's Chat Show, where they have two hour long shows once a week. Nathan Fillion has been on Feb 14, 2011, talking about Firefly and whatever. A scifi drama is probably 10 times (100 times?) the work of a chat show. You will need a parking lot full of unpaid, yet skilled, volunteers working on the drama. http://kevinpollakschatshow.com/

In January 2011, in an attempt to generate funds for the show with which to pay the crew who worked on its production (who, up until this point, were volunteering their time), the Chat Show began charging for downloads of the podcast, as well as the video playback. The Live Feed remained free of charge, however. This new policy led to a massive drop-off in viewer download, and shortly thereafter it was announced that the weekly podcast and video playback would go back to being free. However, past episodes would be bundled together in groups of 25 for which a small fee would be assessed to download the back catalog.

Why? Because life inherently sucks too much for us to be completely happy, ever again...

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

A far better answer might be, "Because music is cheaper." Recording and mastering an album can literally be done for an average year's salary, or less. I do mean average-average, not CEO-average. While certain things can be filmed on the cheap, certain things cannot. Even the simplest special effect is going to put a serious bump in the budget. TV/movies can easily cost 1000 times what recording an album costs. So, that's why.

These folks are giving it a good try:

(NB: if you go to that site with aspirations of downloading it, try and avert your vision until you've hit "Download" because the silly muppets completely spoilerize the first episode in the first paragraph on the front page. D'oh!).

The problem is, locations, nice props, special effects etc. cost too much money for this sort of show, so it is really, really reliant on strong writing. That would leave one or two commercial shows in deep trouble.

Just hoping that a somewhat established studio will pick up the idea of fans investing in bigger productions.

Don't hold your breath. It would be a legal quagmire, with very little upside for the studio. If they can't make money off it - they're not interested. They could care less about making fans happy if it doesn't generate revenue.
