I just read this on the BBC website ( www.bbc.co.uk) that she sadly passed away this morning after fighting against cancer for some time. I thought I'd post here as there are some Who fans on this site from both the old and new series.

She is one of the best remembered companions from the earlier series and reappeared in the newer version as well. She had the longest run of any companion and starred with more Doctors than anyone else. She also had two spin-offs, one unsuccessful and one very successful, from Doctor Who.

My thoughts go out to her family and may she always be remembered as the best companion a Doctor could ever have.

So horribly sad, and it's also freaking me out a bit...

Just yesterday, I sent my cousin an email with a bunch of Doctor Who links, because he'd never heard of it.
This morning, I loaned a friend a bunch of Doctor Who episodes on DVD, because she'd never heard of it.
Now, my favorite Companion is dead.

Yes, very sad news. Pyramids of Mars was the first serial of Who I saw.

this almost makes me wanna cry...

and not to down play the tragedy and pain to her family, but, this pretty much dooms any future seasons of SJA... wonder how it will end up being handled in-universe.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I feel as if I've lost a very close friend, and I haven't seen that many of her adventures. I had not watched Who until the revival series, but when she appeared in "School Reunion" I fell in love with her immediately. So far I've watched her first story with Pertwee and the Sontarans, and then "Pyramids of Mars." Her legacy will live as long as The Doctor's, and she will be sorely missed.

It's a sad day for anyone who grew up with Doctor Who from the Tom Baker era onwards.

School Reunion was one of the best new!Who episodes because of Elisabeth Sladen's reprisal of Sarah Jane Smith and the look at what happens to a Companion when they've been through time and space...and now is back on Earth again.

RIP. Elisabeth Sladen. A finer lady and actress would be hard to find

First the Brigadier in February, and now Sarah Jane. Damn, I feel old.

So far, I think this is my favorite tribute to her:

Again, I concur. Also, with the dog. K-9, it's silly, but I catch myself worrying from time to time what he must be going through.

World still upside-down, and I'm at a loss for words. Whoever said let it never be said that words fail me, but rather that I fail them. I feel this way now, and still I lack anything original to say.
