Ok, so....New to the forum, new to the state. Just wondering if there're any fans in Alaska? Since they decided 1 season was enough, without the fans you can just re-watch the same over and over....and over! It'd be shiny to find someone up here who digs the show!

Well, Alaska is kind of a big place, but you've got one of our biggest fans up there. Check out http://www.mariancall.com/

Thanks, I feel hopeful. Hopefully I'll be able to meet a few. Any websites with listings of fan groups in the area?

I do not think they are super organized group in Alaska, buut Marian can probably tell you some of their fav haunts. I know a pair of Houston BC's that moved to Anchorage a few years ago.

That would be nice. The hardest part of moving somewhere new is re-starting a social life! It'd be nice to know some folk with common interests! I just moved from Ft. Worth, maybe the Texans are trying a subtle takeover?

Hi,

Artcat let me know you're moving to Alaska but I'm not sure what city you're moving to. I haven't meet to many other Firefly fans up here or have had much of a social life due to grad school taking over my life. But if you'd like to meet for dinner with my husband and I in Anchorage let me know.

Very cool. I'm in Anchorage as well. Just by following the thread...a local! Even if the thread wasn't to me, and I apologize for leaping in like this, it's nice to see someone from the city.

I think Artcat was referring to you...who knows! But it's certainly good to know there are Browncoats in Anchorage. :) It's been kind of weird not having monthly get togethers with my peeps from Houston. :)

Actually, meeting would be awesome. I moved up here from TX cuz my bro is sick, and it is tough in a new town. Maybe we could get together. I have a soft spot for shows that don't last long, or haven't been aired much..Invisible Man, Firefly, Battle of the Planets...Popular stuff that lasts for seasons is kinda dull most times.
Makes following it kinda hard. :>

My husband ( still in TX right now ) and i get into these long, involved discussions about the motives of people who aren't real, in a world that is made up,..and we take it so serious! Is that weird? And if so, is it weird in a good way?

My husband and I also have discussions about characters and etc...

Have you been to the Bear Tooth yet? I was thinking it may not be a bad place to meet for lunch or dinner over the weekend.

Let me know when is a good time for you. I work M-F 8-5pm and for the next five weeks my Sundays I suspect may be busy with homework.

My email is amalthia at gmail.com if you want to write to me so we can discuss meeting plans. :)

Do you by any chance crochet or watch Batman/Justice League cartoons. Lately I've found myself really into comics...I think it's the lack of much sci-fi/fantasy on TV that's driving me in this direction.

Big on cartoons! Mostly the funky ones like Sealab, Squidbillies, etc. The hubby watches Justice League, Ben 10, etc. I get it thru osmosis. I agree about the scifi lack. Mondays are looking better, what w-Eureka and Warehous 13. No crochet, but I embroider like crazy. Been going to Crossroads on Gamble when I do go out, so it'd be great to meet new folk and see new places. Heard of Bear Tooth, my niece and nephew recommend it. I'll e-mail you, we can set a time. So far I'm just doing the paid PCA thing for my bro, so my time is my own till I gt a real job, full time and all. Lets do a get together. Thanks for your friendliness! I have seen a few Mexican food joints up hre but I've been a little leery of what the idea of *Mexican food* is up here. Lots of asian food tho!And ya'll have coffee shops like we have sno-cone shops down home! Miss the 7-11's and Racetracs...

I'm not going to lie the Mexican food up here is crap compared to what you can find in Texas. Also all the chip dip sauces are the same. However, I think Pancho Villa is one of the better places, no long wait, food uses real cheese...

Real cheese? Say it ain't so! Bonus! (Sarcasm is my schtick, sorry. ) I'm not too worried, Mexican is what we cook back home when the budgets tight, so I'm pretty good at it on my own. Made enchiladas tonight, matter o' fact. That and Barbecue. Might miss the sauces tho. I'd kill for a good Salsa Verde!

I think the best tex mex you're going to get up here is what you can cook in your own kitchen. :) I make my own crispy tacos. But sometimes cooking enchiladas for just two people is a lot of work so I tend to get those if I can when I eat out. Well that and I'm not very good at cooking enchiladas.

Yesta,

Glad Amalthia got in touch with you :) Her hubby makes awesome Fries (or so I am told).

Not sure if this will help either of you, but looks like Alaskan Browncoats have a twitter account http://twitter.com/#!/akbrowncoats
