Keep the Shiny side up

Just finished Lois McMaster Bujold's newest Miles book, Cryoburn, and though that Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones, would be perfect to play Miles, if anyone ever got around to making movies of the books. Any Miles fans out there?

Yes, sure. I only read one of the books, but my sister is a huge fan. She has a similar bone disorder, and sees Miles as a can do, and sometimes thinks he can but can't, kind of a hero.

I don't know Peter Dinklage. How is Game of Thrones?

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

GoT is pretty darned great. Caught the HBO series before I read any of the books, and found that it followed very closely to the original source once I read it. For a first season, I thought it was well worth my sleep-time to stay up and watch.

I highly recommend it. Peter Dinklage’s Tyrion is spot on in my opinion.

Sorry to hijack the thread. Back to our regularly scheduled discussion.

Yes, Geezer, huge Miles/Bujold fan here! Would love to see any of the Vorkosigan books brought to film, some more than others. Have puzzled over the casting of Miles for years, but have lately arrived at the following candidates for other roles: Jane Lynch - Cordelia; Harrison Ford or John Laroquette - Aral; Kevin Spacey - Illyan. Not familiar with Peter Dinklage (have seen none of Game of Thrones) - will look him up now.

Ah, THAT guy - yeah, he'd be great. I saw him in "Elf" and an ep of "30 Rock" he did a few years back. He'd be up to playing Miles' brother, Mark, too.

I think that part of the reason I may like Dinklage for Miles is the character he portrays in GofT: clever, persusasive, not above breaking the rules to win.

That sounds about right. Here's a quote from him copied from IMDb:

"[On short stature]: When I was younger, definitely, I let it get to me. As an adolescent, I was bitter and angry and I definitely put up these walls. But the older you get, you realize you just have to have a sense of humour. You just know that it's not your problem. It's theirs. -- IMDb Quotes: Peter Dinklage"

Not surprising that he would have that attitude - goes to demonstrating insight that he would bring to the role. You got any ideas for a director? The only name that forcibly comes to my mind is Peter Jackson...but then, after LotR, I want him to direct everything - film, TV, industrial video, commercials...

This also from IMDb - "Has achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism in which the body is perfectly formed but the bones initially modelled in cartilage, the long bones of the arms and legs, do not grow long enough. Velázquez painted a fine portrait of a man with this condition which hangs in the Prado in Madrid. -- IMDb Trivia: Peter Dinklage". Not exactly what Miles "came down" with, but it puts me in mind of Miles' occasional protest about his deformity being terratogenic, not mutagenic.

Yes, Peter Dinklage would make an excellent Miles. His performances show him to be much more than his size.
