Saw "Serenity" tonight for the first time. Saw the deleted scenes and "Special Features". It was very different from the series. It wasn't as warm and familial. It lost its "folksie" character and dialogue. The camera work was very different. I preferred the hand held camera of the series. It also lost it's sense of humor. It did carry the story line out to somewhat of a conclusion. It left me wanting more. I miss the characters and the ship and find myself so sad for those that didn't make it in the end.

After all this time, I don't think the actors will ever be able to find their paths cleared for picking up where they left off. I think it really is over. Too much time has come to pass. Everyone seems to have moved on. VERY SAD.......B(

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I don't think that Serenity lost the humor of the series. There was still plenty of humor, but yes, the movie was a bit darker than the series. It had to be by the nature of the plot, but I felt the humor was still there.

I do agree I like the camera style of the series better than the movie.

I had the same feeling, Rhiog. Still love the BDM, though.

I loved the show too but I prefered the film. Chiwetel Ejiofor was such a great villain for Nathan. I always felt Mal was too 'aware' in the Firefly world. Like he always had an ace up his sleeve. With the Operative I felt there was someone on his level and beyond, which made the battle between them all the more severe and thrilling.

That said as a package (Film + TV Show) it's awesome!
It will always be a classic!

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I am one of those who has not given up hope that we will one day get more stories from the 'verse. I have no idea in what form they will be, or which actors/characters might be featured, but I feel confident it will happen sometime within the next five years. It may be similar to the "Young Indiana Jones Chronicles." We could get a prequel story about the war, with just a cameo from Nathan as the narrator but another actor portraying the young Mal. Or it could be a completely different crew flying in Serenity. I'd even accept a show about Saffron or Badger's exploits.

Good on ya', EC. We hold until the Captain gets back. Whenever I hear someone falter and cave just a bit, I think of that final scene when Mal says "hold until the I get back." I hope that we get some kind of closure with the original crew, but I'd be willing to listen to a story about Saffron, Badger or even Monty. In my mini-series idea hell, I have 'em all in there, including the captain who got the "jump" on Mal in OoG (hint: Mal gets even; he gets him acquainted with Saffron).

But yeah, I could see a kinda Young Indiana Jones-type treatment. Soooounddds goood!

I agree Rhiog, the BDM didn't measure up for me, disappointing for all the reasons you listed, I felt like I was the only one who knew this wasn't the "real" ship and the real charactors and that everyone else couldn't tell. that being said my dad loves the movie and so do many of my Browncoat friends, and even I like _certain things about the movie. I think you're right though, it is the end of our crew as we know it on screen. But if you like you could read the comic books, there are four of them out.

I haven't given up hope either. Call be crazy, call me naive, call me overly optimistic. I preferred to be called a browncoat.

I figure at this point the odds of getting the cast back together are pretty slim. I love this little 'verse that Joss created and I'd be happy to have the story continue in about any form; comics, webisodes, web comic, novels, spin off with another cast, prequels, you name it. Just give me more stories!
