What do you think about casting Summer Glau in Avatar 2 & 3? I think Summer would make a lovely avatar. Four artists have drawn her as one.

James Cameron is currently writing the Avatar sequels. It is not too late for Summer to get into the scripts as the new scientist replacing Sigourney Weaver, who died in the original Avatar. - www.movieweb.com/news/avatar-2-and-3-not-a-traditional-trilogy-says-ja

Summer Glau answers “Do you want to be in Avatar 2?”

Quote:

To Avatar Director James Cameron,
Please cast Summer Glau as the biologist replacing Sigourney Weaver. You can freely borrow from my Avatar 2 story. The story goes:

With her avatar, Summer Glau arrives on a starship. She is an ocean xenobiologist in a wheelchair – a prettier Stephen Hawking with female electronic voice.

The paralyzed genius is not welcomed by Na'vi laws governing humans. Summer is permitted only weeks to study the undersea flora & fauna before she must leave. She will be expelled from the Garden of Eden for eternity.

Onetime paraplegic Jake Sully sympathizes with Summer Glau. Jake will accompany and protect Summer from wild sea beasts. Jake's wife, Neytiri, is jealous. Plot complications ensue.

My preferred complication is that Summer was sent to kill Jake.

Jake & Summer grow emotionally close after weeks together exploring the ocean life in a sailboat and a submarine. You might say they are in love. But Summer must soon leave the planet because most humans are not allowed to stay indefinitely.

A mysterious stranger wakes Summer. While she is outside of her avatar and inside her crippled human body, she is told to kill Jake immediately or else something terrible happens!

Back inside her avatar, Summer and Jake fight to a draw at the bottom of the ocean. They will die together, breathing from the same nearly empty oxygen tank.

With Jake's knife at her throat, Summer's avatar tells her story -- if she doesn't kill Jake, the evil starship captain will kill Summer's sister, which recalls to Jake his brother's death in the original Avatar.

Jake asks Summer's avatar, “If you die and I live, will the evil starship captain still kill your sister?” Not a good plan in Summer's opinion. Jake continues, “I didn't explain clearly. How about if only your paralyzed human body dies? Then we both rescue your sister from the starship captain.”

Summer is confused because she did not see the original Avatar movie. Jake's human body died but Jake's mind lives in his avatar. A genius, Summer now understands the plan; underwater kisses are exchanged. Jake and Summer intertwine in soul-to-soul love via their unique Na'vi nerve connections in their pigtails.

For Summer and Jake, the only constant is inconstancy, the waywardness of passion and, since every person seems to have multiple selves, of existence itself.

The movie ends with an epic sea battle to save Summer's sister. Amphibious spaceships are destroyed in 3-D by krakens.

The evil starship captain, who is unknown to Jake until the very end of the movie, is the vengeful identical twin of (Spoiler Alert) Colonel Miles Quaritch from the original Avatar! And why not? Schwarzenegger was in Terminator 2.

Avatar 2 is scheduled for release in December 2014. I hope Summer Glau is in the picture.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I would surely love to see Summer in a high profile film like that, but she is too young to be playing a scientist replacing Sigourney Weaver's character, or at least most people would balk at such a young woman being at that level in her profession. She could certainly handle the character of a young, ultra-brilliant scientist, just not at the top level. JMHO.

What do think of this for a way around Summer's inexperience:

Big boss Sigourney Weaver needed someone to investigate marine biology while she continued with her land based specialty. Unfortunately for the new marine expert, Summer Glau, her new boss was shot dead by Colonel Quaritch. Oops!

Those starships can't turn around halfway. They go nonstop to Pandora to be refueled for the return trip. Summer wakes from suspended animation to find that her job will be nothing like her expectations.

Most of the scientists left for Earth at the end of the original Avatar. Because there is nobody else who wants the responsibility, Summer gets promoted to big boss, but not for long because the Na'vi natives don't want more foreigners on their planet. Jake Sully is the poor guy that has to tell Summer the bad news: “Go Home Earthling!”

Summer weeps. She is so pitiful that Jake's heart will soften. He is not as tough as he pretends. Jake will say to the girl in the wheelchair, “You can stay for a month but then you really, really have to go back to Earth.”

Jake has second thoughts. “While you're here, can we try out that nuclear submarine that you brought with you? How fast can it go? Will it pull water skis?”

That is how Jake gets into trouble with the wife. There is only room for 6 humans in the sub. Or two giant Na'vi: Jake and Summer's avatar. For laughs they try 3 Na'vi in the sub: Jake, Neytiri, and Summer. 3 is too cramped for a trip lasting more than half day. Jake and Summer are destined for a long voyage of discover alone together.

Submit that idea to James Cameron and let us know what his response is.

He turned it down.

I was aiming for a story that only kills a few key characters. Cameron prefers a larger body count. Avatar showed a certain restraint - more dead than Titanic, less dead than Terminator 2 and its billions. Unless Cameron goes soft, there will be a HUGE body count in Avatar 2. Maybe another completely pointless Na'vi cavalry charge against machines guns that reenacts the worst of World War I.

Cameron is paid to pull the heartstrings of the audience. All the CGI dead in the Na'vi cavalry charge were for decorating the scene where Jake and Neytiri have, maybe, their last talk before they die. With a lot less subtlety in Cameron's Titanic, all the dead prop dummies floating face down were for decorating the scene where Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio have their last talk before DiCaprio died. The piles of bones in Terminator 2 are even more obvious. It's all about pulling heartstrings so hard it hurts. As he gets older, Cameron is getting more sophisticated at decorating a scene with the dead.

Two words:

Orbital Bombardment

Part of the massive military response to the massacre of the "peaceful scientific outpost".

Summer is a member of the team that is specially trained to hunt the Na'vi down using avatars. She is tasked with finding the "traitor" Jake Sully, which she is able to do only after Jake stays behind to allow the rest of his clan (including wife and children) to escape. After an extended one on one fight, Jake is able to defeat her. He reasons with her and explains what really happened during the first movie to counter the propaganda she was told. He seems to get through to her, but she has used the lull to get the upper hand and reveals she is the daughter of Col. Quaritch as she slides a blade through his throat.

In the distance, an enraged Neytiri witnesses the murder but can do nothing but escape with their children and vow vengeance...fade to black.

Or is that too much of a downer?

C'mon, it would be kinda cool to see her as a bad guy!

I really don't care how she gets in, as long as she gets in. It would be huge. I could totally see her as Weaver's young protege studying the Na'vi alongside her mentor. Or as the Colonel's daughter, OOooooo, that's evil. I like it!

Good idea, very Hollywood, but Weaver is dead at the end of the movie, so Summer Glau could be Weaver's estranged daughter who stayed home to get her PhD. Avatar 2 is about the ocean, so that means Summer needs to be a marine biologist. I got the plot motivator: Weaver abandoned Summer to go to the stars. Summer has a 6 year old daughter - call her Newt - that Summer shall not abandon. Summer brings Newt to Pandora. Newt becomes the hostage that will be killed if Summer does not assassinate Jake.

The story gives Summer many opportunities to weep - Summer's mother (Weaver) is dead, Summer's child is threatened with death, Summer tries and fails to kill Jake, Jake and Summer free her child and kill the villain. It is opera without the singing. Avatar 2, the Space Opera!

IRL, Summer is 30. Old enough for a Ph.D., and in my experience extraordinary people often get responsibility early. I wouldn't have a problem with Summer in a new Avatar as long as her acting doesn't suck. That should be the basis for judgment.

They can fix sucky acting with the computer. If Summer Glau can cry fluorescent green tears, she will be the next Avatar. Someday her face could be a Halloween mask or she could be in a Wii Game where she kicks Colonel Quaritch to death to win. There is already a story about hiring the Avatar Franchise President! It wasn't so much that James Cameron turned down the idea, but more, “How the f*** did you get in my office??” He pressed the intercom to his secretary. “Call security!” I threw the manuscript on his desk and ran for my life. There was automatic weapons gunfire and a wild police chase across LA before I ditched the cops by driving my stolen 18 wheeler off the edge of a bridge and landing in the dry LA river. Then I switching to motorcycle with a sidecar driven by a shotgun firing comrade to make my escape. So... I don't think James Cameron liked my ideas. He hasn't called my agent.

Yeah and Jake shows her how to operate the latest in Marine weaponary (much like Hicks with Ripley in Aliens).

She says "My Turn" and Summer proceeds to kick some serious butt, leaving bodies strewn left, right and center in her wake.

Jake turns to her and says "You've done this before?" (I always wondered why they never followed up with Newt all growed up in Aliens 3).
Well this would make up for that blunder......

"Momma's coming baby" - Summer loaded for bear, armed to the teeth with combat grade gear. AWESOME!

Ok, I'm getting tingles.

Summer Glau totally looks like Sigourney Weaver. And Weaver will be in Avatar 2. And Avatar 2 needs another daughter. So. . . Summer should be Weaver's daughter in Avatar 2, which is a totally logical casting decision supported by impeccable reasoning initiated by yesterday's news:
Sigourney Weaver in Avatar 2 & 3 - September 17 2011

She also confirms that she’ll definitely be back in the Avatar sequels… in some form:

“Don’t worry, I will be back,” she says. “Jim [Cameron] says no one ever dies in science fiction. Yesterday, James Cameron was doing deep research on the story for Avatar 2. Since the movie will be in the ocean, he needs photos from Earth to inspire extra-terrestrial creature designs.

Somehow Cameron will work in a role for Summer Glau. He owes her because she played Cameron in Terminator: TSCC.
