I found a place that had resin kits, and I snatched 2 of 'em up!
I am gonna make these look SO pretty!!!! Just like in Serenity (they're Firefly-style at the moment).
You can get 'em here:
http://www.monstersinmotion.com/cart/lifesize-collectibles-props-item-
list-a-e-c-5_151/browncoat-pistol-firefly-1-1-prop-replica-pistol-model-resin-kit-p-8838

Note, it comes in ONE piece, not the three as described. But it's pretty full of detail (y'know, for a resin reproduction. They do need some fancy work to be shiny).

Okay, a little simple research shows this gun to be fairly accurate in general lines, but gorram terribly lacking in the details. I just bought a whole passel of work for myself.

But I WILL make it shiny!! I swear by my pretty floral bonnet!!

That is a pretty reasonable going rate for the QMx BDM Serenity Mal pistol,
at least until recently.

There is a lotta-lotta-lotta info out there about the various Mal pistols
and how they compare to each other, and to the original Mal pistols.

The pistols you bought from MIM are basically recasts of the fan-sculpted Wilco,
so they are a generation removed from what was an interpretive piece to begin with.

You can still build them into a decent representation of a Mal pistol,
but the QMx Serenity Mal is probably the most common, accurate Mal pistol.
I've posted all this info and considerably more, in many threads here,
on www.fireflyprops.net
the replica prop forum, www.therpf.com
(which I've seen you post your BSG Vipers on)
and the www.serenitymovie.net site.

I see many people pay ridiculous sums for inaccurate, often outright horrible, Mal pistols, while other times excellent versions like the phillipes and Sidkit slide under the radar for nearly nothing.

Good Luck on your builds,
Mike

Oh, I just love a challenge, and this one is that. It'll be a LOT of work, still, for the price I paid, it's a nice starting point, and definitely saves me time on the front end of the build.

The acrylic stand was a limited release from QMx.
But, if you join the RPF,
someone or someones have made a version of them available now and again.

The Mal resin gun is a fun build. I did mine a few years back, and have one suggestion that worked well for me. I carefully trimmed off the resin "screws" with a razor blade, then found some antique brass screws at a hardware store to use in their place.
There were two small ones on the front sight, four on top of the frame, and one on each side of the grip. For the paint and metal effects I pretty much followed the directions that came with the model. Good luck!

I aim to misbehave.

Thanks Pengy, I saw it. Too late for me; I already have the kits. But for anyone else I heartily recommend it!!! It looks perfect.

If you really want to get serious, I coud make you a metal copy.

Looks like about a 2,000$ job, more if you want moving parts.

You coud order 5 and make money selling the extras!

No problem.

I hav a hankerin to do sum experiments that coud lead to a practical weapon. The main objectiv iz to get rid uv bullets, or at least minimize their space requirements.

Going to need sumthing for the impending zombie apocalypse anyway, so I shoud get to work soon.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

It would rock to have a working, firing version of this weapon.

Also, a Lemat converted to fire cartridges.

And I think the Lemat would actually be popular with non-fans.

Yeah, but it was just pointed out to me that polystone is kinda brittle. My resin one will be nicer to drop occasionally.
