Six Most Shocking Moments of Firefly

Hello again. I just got through starting a thread like this for Angel. But, since I couldn't narrow down the same three categories to just three scenes, I decided to include the top two for each one. In my opinion, anyway.

In case you're seeing this one first, here's the three categories: Hi-larious! (shockingly funny), Oh My God! (shockingly dramatic or vicious), and What The F

K!? (shockingly 'what were they thinking'). Here they are.

Hi-larious!- 1)"War Stories"- Jayne's infamous line, "I'll be in my bunk." The look on his face, the contrast with everyone else's reactions, and the repetitive use of it between him and Wash. It was hard to choose between all the Jayne moments, but one had to win; 2)"Trash"- Mal's naked moments, sitting on the rock remarking "Yeaht, that went well", running through the desert screaming, "No! You dirty, dirty whore! Yeah, you better run!" while she escapes in the shuttle, and his smug nonchalant strut into Serenity giving orders. I still laugh out loud at both of these scenes now.

Oh My God!- 1) & 2)"War Stories"- Both scenes for this category fall in the same episode. Mal's torture scenes where he loses an ear, gets the steel tendrils through his chest, and dies; and River's big premiere as a kick-ass assassin by nailing three covered, armed men with three quick shots... with her F'n eyes closed! I actually said "Oh my God!" out loud when I first saw this ep'. Now I just say, "Yea-heah."

What The FK!?- 1) & 2)"Trash" and "The Message". Now, before you guys start threatening or shooting, here's the thing. I couldn't find a moment for this category on Firefly. So, this is aimed towards FOX. When I watched these ep's on the DVD set for the first time, all I could think was, "What the F

K!? Why didn't FOX air these? I thought FOX was all about the special effects and the ass." These ep's had great story, drama, action humor, etc. and they never saw the screen. So, you see my point?

Well, I know this has been kind of long-winded, but if you've seen my posts, they're never short. If you haven't seen these ep's in a while, go back and make a day of it. Enjoy as I have.

When Simon first cuts into Tracey in the Message. I literally jumped out of my chair. And this was months before the DVD was out...I was just reading the leaked script and THAT made me jump!

Here's my six:

1. When Mal kicked Crow into the engine. (The Train Job)

2. A mortally wounded Book, shows his I.D. to Alliance lackies, and get's immediate medical attention. (Safe)

3. The crew of Serenity visits a settlement where Jayne is a local folk legend, with a song and a statue in his honor. (Jaynestown)

4. Mal knocks Jayne unconcious after a mission with Simon and River goes bad. (Ariel)

5. Book shows skill in a combat situation. (War Stories)

6. River kills three of Niska's men "with math". (War Stories)

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Hi-larious: 1) Mal kicking Crow through Serenity's port engine after his little speech about hunting the crew down in "Trainjob". 2) Jayne's priceless line "I'll be in my bunk" used repeatedly in "War Stories".

Oh My God!: 1) Definitely Mal getting his ear cut off in "War Stories". 2) Tracy's eyes flying open & he starts screaming in "The Message".

What the FK?!?: 1) River closing her eyes, walks out into the open & kills 3 of Niska's goons w/ three shots. 2) How the heck this show ever got cancelled in the first place!!!

1. Mal shooting Dobson ((Serenity) My all time favourite scene).

2. Serenity breakin atmo when escaping the reavers ((Serenity) Kick ass special effects)

3. Mal kickin Crow into the engine (The Train Job).

4. Jayne nearly getting jettisoned into space((Ariel) I really thought Jayne was done for the first time I saw that ep).

5. Mal, his ear and the chest hugger thingy.

6. Saffron all naked and articulate((Our Mrs Reynolds) mmmmmmm shocking

Objects In Space: Early says to Kaylee "Have you ever been raped?" That's just downright nasty, sayin' that to her, the Nicest Person In The 'Verse (official). And the look on her face? Floatin' in space is too good for him.

Mal: "We're not gonna die. We can't die, Bendis. You know why? Because we are so... very... pretty. We are just too pretty for God to let us die."

1. Hi-larious! A - "Our Mrs. Reynolds" "It is my very favorite gun." Ah, toying with expectations... B - "Shindig" "Mercy...is the mark of a great man." *stab* Perfect comic timing and delivery. Kudos to Nathan!

2. Oh my God! A - "Serenity" The whole friggin' episode, my jaw was down, amazed that something like this had even been attempted on American television. Bold! B - "Ariel" "You did this to *me*, Jayne!" On any other show, I would've known exactly how it would turn out, but everything came together in one of the most tense moments I have ever seen on TV.

3. What the FK?! What ShadowVessel said. My sentiments exactly.

Hi-larious! - Jayne's infamous line, "I'll be in my bunk." I laughed 'till I cried, especially after my spouse turned to me and said "did he mean what I think he meant?" Also, the Internet extended version of the gag reel is pretty cool!

Oh My God! - Mal, walking back into Serenity shakin his booty, au natural. OMG - they're allowed to do this on prime time television?!?

What The FK? - all of "Objects In Space", with the threat of rape, abduction and insanity, was totally fascinating from the get go. Joss's commentary on existentialism and his desire to make a "darker" episode makes this numero uno for me.

Well, technically, that one never made it to prime time television.

I'm actually wondering if the Fox censors ever had a look at the unaired stuff, but then again, Whedon's said on several occasions that he's constantly shocked at what he can get away with just by being a genre show.
