In the pilot, you can see a Blue Sun logo on Persephone. Jayne is wearing a Blue Sun T-shirt in another episode (don't remember which off-hand...sorry). I think there were more times it popped up, but I can't remember any off-hand. I also don't recal it being mentioned in any dialogue- it was just an omnipresent advertising logo.

It was one of those things Joss was building in slowly - so all we got so far was the logos in the background.

They're the corporate arm of the alliance - one of these evil multi-national type companies, like how McDonalds burn down the rainforrest to raise cattle on - that kind of buzz

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Without going back and rewatching all the discs again (and we know what a chore that will be ) I'll venture to say there is a Blue Sun reference in at least every other episode. Here's a few I recall off the top of my head: there are signs in the background in "Serenity," Jayne wore the Blue Sun shirt several times, most prominently in the teaser of "Ariel," and in "Shindig" the logo is on the canned goods River tears the labels off of. Blue Sun commercials are also running on the video screens at the space station in "The Message."

I didn't know how often Blue Sun logos were shown on screen, but after someone on here brought it up..wow! Go back and re watch ( Yes, I know. It's a tough job, but ya gotta do it - ) Serenity, and look in the back ground....everywhere you'll see Blue Sun posters and logos. It really is shiny how Joss was laying down the foundation for...who knows what.

I think you guys forgot a few

In Bushwhacked Jayne has his Blue Sun shirt on as well.

The billboards and TV Phones in Ariel have Blue Sun ads. As do the billboards and scrolling marques on the space station in The Message.

The 'cry baby' in "Serenity" was built around a Blue Sun coffee can.

Cool, I didn't even notice that one...and I've been looking...
It is frequently on billboards in the background,
I think Joss was trying to make it ubiquitous...
like a Coca Cola sign...
something you don't even notice.

I hadn't noticed that that was the t-shirt Jayne was wearing when River cut him until it was pointed out in fan fic (with the theory that River was cutting the logo...and not the man)...
but Joss was very sneaky in that scene, he shoots most of it so you never get a clear look at the t-shirt at all!

But most important, Joss mentions it in the commentary as being something that was going to start to be part of the story, later...

Good catch!
I had missed that one. I'm not sure if it's a coffee can or a 55 gallon drum. It's hard to tell what size it is.

I thought it was a drum sized can the first time I watched it, but then when I re-watched it it's definately just a coffeecan. Unless they make really big duct tape and write really really big with a sharpie in the future. It has "cry baby" written on it in what looks like magic marker. Which makes the "it's a large ship sir" even funnier to me.

I looked at it again. It actually says 'Coffee' on it.

Hmmm...
Blue Sun Coffee. I wonder what it tastes like.

You know, this supports the theory that Blue Sun and Star Bucks are the same thing.

That actually makes really good sense because a 55 gallon drum stands out as a singular thing especially compared to a coverted coffee can among the rest of their supplies. Which would explain why Crybaby was written on it.

Yep, exactly right. This is why I like this show more and more. The more you peel back the layers, the more you find. Some actual thought went into why things are the way they are..or at least there are good explantions for 'em.

Is it really? I have heard this over and over, but I have never actually been able to make out any Blue Sun logo on the can labels. I'm starting to think this is a spurban legend. Can anyone describe where the logos are more specifically, or better yet, put up a screen capture?

You're right that we can't see any "Blue Sun" or Blue Sun logo on the can labels in "Shindig." But we are able to (barely) see Blue Sun logos on the boxes of cracker packets she goes after next. The way she's holding the boxes, one is upside-down and the other is sideways.

See my site [EDIT, CHANGED URL]:
http://fireflychinese.home.att.net/visible.html#sh
-----

It's also in the script:
Quote:

River has three cans unlabeled, and she's crushing a box of crackers. It has a visible, not emphasized, "Blue Sun" on it. She gets more violent and loud as she continues.
