I would put this in the episode discussion, but it didn't seem to fit so well. If this doesn't work I'll put it again there.

With what was seen in Serenity, the general consensus amongst the Firefly Role Play community is that that a second war would be started as a result. What's more is that a majority of them also believe that it is one the Alliance would win.

I personally disagree with this completely, but I want to know what other people think before I just jump on that. In essence what I'm asking is, if you think it would lead to another war, and why. And if you do, who do you think would win, and why.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

What do you disagree with exactly? The fact the events in Serenity would have started another war for independence, or that the Alliance would win that conflict?

Personally, I don't think the events in Serenity were enough to trigger an uprising. It might be enough to get some folks thinking, maybe push a few fence straddlers over to the way of thinking along the lines of independence, but I feel that Parliment and the Alliance would spin it as so much bunk. They would minimize their role in the incident on Miranda, the creation of the Reavers, the cover up, etc. Up to the time of the movie it appears that most people didn't even know of Miranda let alone what may or may not have transpired there.

I have wondered what, if anything would come from the events of Serenity, but in the end I have always felt that things would pretty much continue as they were up to that point.

Exactly, that's my whole point. I just think the Alliance would say that the video was a hoax by some trouble making kids or something, who got a little to "reaver" crazy, and were trying to make a joke. Like the Crop Circle people. I just don't see it realistically doing any damage, but people all over the RP realm think that Serenity = Second War = Independents win. But with the Alliance everywhere, and stronger now then ever before, I highly doubt the Independents would win.

I set this up at episode section, and its got a bit more, so lets move this over there

If the Alliance could "spin" its way out of the Miranda scandal, was Mal wrong to risk so much to get the message out? Was it worth the risk to the crew and the loss of Wash and Book?

Its worth it to the Michigan Militia, the Golden Dawn, the IRA, and every other small group of fanatics in the world. Modern history is littered with small groups of people that try to make their mark on history and just wind up on the wrong side of it.

Because Mal wanted the truth known. He wanted the people that died on Miranda to have a voice to speak for them, to let people know what happened and why. Mal felt that was worth risking everything for, and I would agree with him.

Book was no longer w/ the crew and died at the hands of the Alliance in the hunt for River and Simon, Wash died in the pursuit of the crew by the Reavers. We could argue that Mal's decision to get the signal out led to Wash's death, but honestly in looking at the storyline everyone of the crew was in danger just from their association with River and Simon. Inara was not even on the ship and the Operative went in search of her to bait a trap for Mal.

Mal gave each of them to option of backing out if they wished and they all made the decision to stand with him. They knew the importance of what it was that they were doing. They all saw the horrors of Miranda, the Reavers created as a result of the experiment on Miranda. They all felt that getting the signal out was worth the risks.

That sounds like high minded phish posh. If you were on the crew of Serenity, your choice was go with Mal or stay in Haven with all the dead, waiting for the Alliance to kill you. Who would wait for the Alliance?

The next choice was either go with Mal or be marooned on Miranda, alone, when it is getting dark. You build a fire for light. Then the Reavers come.
