TENTHCREWMEMBER

Could you please just make it stranger? Stranger. Odder. Could be weirder. More bizarre. How about uncanny?

Ni hao, my fellow Browncoats.

I know I haven't been the most active Browncoat on the site as of late, but this is my online home and has been since I joined. However, my daughter has been diagnosed with Displastic Spondylolisthesis. It is a birth defect that has affected her vertebrae. The bad news is it will require surgery and several months of recovery. The good news is the surgery will fix the problem.

I think it goes without saying that I am scared by the idea of my 10-year old baby girl going into surgery, and to admit that is even scarier, but I am.

So I just would like everyone to keep my daughter, Jana, in your thoughts, wishes, prayers. If you'd like to stay informed of her progress, I will be posting updates on CaringBridge here:

http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/WorldQueen

Jana has been a long time Browncoat as well. I think as early as age 3 she would sit on the couch and watch the show with me, though it wasn't until school age that she began to actually engage with questions about the show.

Ultimately, I know you all understand I won't be working on some of my outstanding projects, and Caption Tightpants will once again be shelved, but once she's healthy and on her feet adventuring as she does, plotting her world domination (true story!), I'll return.

Thanks, as always, just for being here for us.

John (bka TCM)

I will be sending positive vibes your way Tenth, and I hope the procedure is as non-invasive as possible on your daughter.

Having had a three nephews endure surgery I totally understand your anxiety. You know it's for the best but you still can't help but become worried for them.

Anyway. All the best for you and your daughter.
We'll be here when you return.

Hugs

No more running. I aim to misbehave.

Wishing an easy surgery and a speedy recovery for your daughter. May all you have to endure is a little necessary whining because she is bored during her recuperation.

Egads, I hope you mean it is as non-invasive as possible... and...I second THAT sentiment...

My babe turns ten right shortly as well, and we went through tonsil-ectomy a few years ago -which is comparitively just a blip on the surgical radar but worrisome- none the less. May your doctor NOT be an ass, may your nurses not try to kick a medicated vomiting child out before she needs to be, and may her guardian angel be vigilent against ALL human errors.
Remember, be prepared to listen to your inner voice and fight like hell if you think you should, for that is frequent with the medical un-care system.
I really hope you don't have to and all goes smoothly....

Good Luck!

Buy her lots of ice cream, for it is necessary for child recovery

Thanks, everyone. I'll try and post updates as I have them. It'll be a few weeks before we go back to the doctor for the pre-op exam, but I'm going to try and get some of my (many!) questions answered prior to that.

I'll be sure to pass along the well wishes to my daughter.

Oh, and there will be lots of ice cream and yogurt (she love that too!) for her recovery, I promise. :)

Stay shiny,

sending prayers for a complication free surgery that does the trick and a quick bounceback for the kiddo. The great news is that this condition is fixable! Hoping she'll be up and about and up to the usual kid stuff soon.

I hope your girl has a good birthday Wish, you know my lil' bro is only a grade ahead of your kiddo and my nephew is in the same grade as her. Kids that age are great.

Just wanted to let everyone know I am thankful for all the well wishes!

It has been a nerve-wracking, yet amazing, surgery and recovery for my angel, Jana. She has recovered in record time, as she is on her feet and back to school as of 2 weeks ago. She still has to wear a brace for a while yet as the bones and incision still have to heal, but she is walking fully now and her posture is great. We go to the doctor on Thursday for the first follow up visit. I think even the doctor will be amazed.

Thanks again, everyone for your emotional support, it means way more than you know. I love my Browncoats. Stay shiny, everyone!

Looks like everything is going to work out just right and she'll be A okay pretty soon! Thanks for the update. As a child I had a friend who had what I'm guessing was similar surgery. She had to stay home and rest for a month afterwords but it all came out right like it should and like it will for you guys.

Excellent!

Being no stranger to replacement/restorative procedures myself (being, yanno, a cyborg), this is indeed good news to hear, and kudos to the young miss for courage and steadfastness, cause I know all too well how trying such a thing can be, especially for the young.

Keep on keepin on, ehe ?
