Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Anyone watch last night? I was spellbound. At the crowd! TEN YEARS after a 13-episode, virtually unknown TV series goes off the air, and look at them! Just shows again how terribly, terribly wrong it was to cancel it.

But that's neither here nor there...it was great to see our BDHs and listen to them, and of course Joss. Made my night...my week!

SPOILER??!!
Loved the show... loved the crowd... and really loved listening to the ideas the cast and Tim Minear had as ideas for more episodes.

SPOILER??!!
Really would have loved to see Mal going to Inara's rescue after she gets trapped by reavers.... Mal finding all the dead reavers... realizing what happened (the vial that Inara has taken will kill any reaver that rapes her thus hinting at the kind of abuse she went through) and still pick her by the hand... and still treat her like the lady that she is. Would have been a really dark but awesome episode.

Ehh, I'm less than thrilled with the "Mal can treat Inara like trash so long as she chooses to have sex, and will only respect her if she's raped" storyline. There's some major characterization problems with that idea, and it's also redundant compared to storylines that are better executed and written where Mal tries to treat Inara like a lady and it doesn't involve rape.

However, I liked Nathan's idea about Mal deciding not to save the victims of a terraforming failure because it could put his ship and crew at risk, and his crew is angry, but it turns out Mal was right. Plus we'd get awesome Mal flashbacks about the destruction of his homeworld to put the difficulty of Mal's choice into context.

I'm about 10 minutes in, and it's kinda buggin' me that Joss has only been seen in archival photos/video so far, not sitting in his rightful place at the head of the table with the crew.

And I really want to know why Ron Glass hasn't been involved with any Firefly events in recent memory.
Has he severed all ties with the franchise?

He was in Dallas back in February along with Adam, Jewel and Sean, and participated in a Q&A panel as well as giving autographs, so you can't say he hasn't done anything in relation to Firefly. I know he has not been working in film and TV as much as the others, but I believe he is involved in a lot of community and charity work in his home state of Indiana.

Ron was also part of the Reunion lunch on the Firefly BluRay set as well as the cast commentary for Serenity.

IMO, from the interviews I've seen of him, his enthusiasm for the show is surpassed only by Nathan.

I'm sure he had a good reason to miss this event.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Pretty amazing tribute to the show, Joss, the cast, and to us browncoats. Excellent show and thanks to the cast and the Science Channel for putting it together for us to enjoy.

I'm sure if I were 67 damn years old I'd want some peace n' quiet too.

Oddly enough, there is discussion threads on his IMDb page asking if he is gay, and one of the replies is "He's not a grampa- he never married"

What Would Mal do ?

it was about 3 hours too short for my liking..and I know I've seen some other footage that didn't make the broadcast, but I also have to recognize that for us starving fans...we could sit there and hear it all day long and come away wanting more...fair enough...it was just great that these folks care that much that a 10 yr revisit was important to them...and while i can imagine guys like Nathan are career people and know how important it is to work the fan deal for any of his shows... I do believe that he truly appreciates the Firefly product and what it meant to him at that point in his career and his life and there is no doubt that these actors bonded and are proud to show it..old school holly wood...you'd have to be on the inside to know who got invited to who's house for parties etc...but this cast wears their hearts and love for each other out there for all to see...and they are gentle and loving and truly appreciative to all us geekies...I mean I can hide with the best of em..put on the suite and go to the office.. blessed to be as handsome as any avatar I might create for myself (grin)..but in the end...I get choked up when I see people truly care about a product, care about an idea, about each other ..it's just a plus that the show was something I totally digged and I don't have to hide my face as if it were a Brady Bunch reunion.
I only hope that producers of other shows realize that guys like me might otherwise not even check out their new TV series except that we see one of our beloved Serenity crew in the cast...that brought me to watch shows like Chuck, the Cape, V, Castle, etc. I likely would never have tuned in.

RIPWASH

So... to early for spoilers? Just in case...
SPOILER ALERT!!

My favorite part, of course, was when Joss was asked what he would do differently if the show hadn't been cancelled. His reply was, "Well, I probably wouldn't have killed anyone." Alan Tudyk's response was priceless.

With all the talk of resurrecting the show... as much as I'd love it, I just don't think it's a viable option anymore. Even a movie would be iffy. The actors have moved on. They have aged. Some of the characters (with either key questions that were never answered about them or just plain popular) are dead. As much as Joss claims to hold a special place in his heart for this show, I just don't see any hope of the show coming back. I mean, they might try a "TNG kind of thing, but really, what are the odds of casting another group of actors with such great chemistry on and off the screen? Slim to none. It would be a completely different series that would be constantly compared to the original. I know, I know... that's what they said about Star Trek :) I dunno. I just don't see it happening.

Finally got to watch it. I liked it.

But (all the men who are in love with Summer Glau will kill me but) Summer Glau is the biggest airhead/inarticulate person I've ever seen on television. I don't know how someone that seems so shallow and incompetant could play one of my favorite charactors of all time. I'm convinced she has a touched cousin that she immitated through the whole thing because her River is wonderfully played but , in interviews I've seen of her she had no idea, and still doesn't seem to, how significant what she was doing was.
Plus I've never thought she did good in anything else I've seen her in. Note that this is my own opinion and so I don't expect others to see it or agree.

I think Summer Glau is kinda shy and maybe doesn't express herself well on some points. Although she has said things about some of her roles, particularly as pertains to mental health issues, that I don't agree with.

If Summer is as much of an airhead/clueless as I think she is, I don't know that we can blame her for saying dumb stuff, I think she is just totally dimwitted. Oh well, if nothing else she made a great River, though I can't figure out how for the life of me, the cousin that she's immitating is the only answer I can come up with that makes sense. I'm glad people tell me I look like River and not that I look like Summer. Not that looks are terribly relevent in life, but I'd rather be compared to someone I admire and respect than someone I think is silly.

Riona, I don't think I could disagree with you more on Summer's acting ability and her personal intelligence. I'm very shy too and usually have difficulty communicating with people I don't know. That does not mean I am dumb or silly. It is the same with Summer. For someone who did not know all the details of River's back-story she absolutely nailed the part. That is not only a sign of a good actress but also a smart one.

I don't think Summer Glau is either extreme.
She isn't a genius and she isn't a dimwit.
I think she is shy and insightful,
and able to translate that into acted performances.

I never met Summer, but I did meet Ron Glass.
Ate dinner at a group table with him and attended his con presentations.
He is a very nice gentleman but when asked questions like,
"what is your dream project" or
"what directors would you like to work with",
he just had no thought processes in that direction.
The audience at the 2007 con I was at responded positively overall,
but did become frustrated at times with his lack of vision beyond
the "job" of acting.
Bottom line, Ron is very much a mundane
who is thankful for the positive experience of working on Firefly,
but who doesn't ever think to explore a world
bigger than the one he walks in.

I think Summer is an athlete artist first (ballet)
and a successful science fiction actress second.
I've enjoyed her work in Firefly/Serenity, Mammoth, Terminator TSCC, Dollhouse and the Cape.
I'd love the opportunity to meet her in a normal, casual setting and shoot the sh!t for awhile.
THEN I might have an informed opinion about her as a person.
Regardless, I believe she is a genuinely NICE person,
and that is all too rare a commodity these days.

ARTCAT81

Hi everyone, I haven't gotten to watch the special yet, thrilled to see the new blood on the boards, and hope life settles down a bit so I can be a more active participant in the community again.

I wanted to weigh in on the whole questioning the actors intelligence thing, please keep in mind the actors do visit the fan communities, some incognito, some 100% themselves, the visits are rare these days, but please think of how you would feel reading someones comments on your intelligence. The exception is Ron, who at last check, still hadn't traded in his typewriter and gets updates from Nathan and others.

I can say from experience, Summer is incredibly nice, and in a one on one conversation situation, she holds her own, as did her grandparents and parents (met them all at a prescreening of Serenity). Not sure how she gets a word in edgewise with Nathan, Jewel,Alan,Adam... - some huuuge vocal personalities. I can also second Ron Glass being an absolute gentleman, he attended a browncoat cruise, and while I didn't attend, I know many who were fortunate enough to, one of them had a bit much to drink, Ron escorted her back to her room, made sure she made it into bed safely and left ( story from multiple browncoats). He seemed very genuine when I met him at a con, wanted to hang out with him longer just a joyous personality, it was infectious.

Yes, they are actors, it is their job, they are not their characters, but they are people, with feelings!

Extremely well done, though I only did catch the last 20 minutes of it, or so.

Joss's will and determination , to not allow this show to simply fade away, is a true testament. And he's right to have been so stead fast in his beliefs.

I'll look forward to seeing the entire hour.
