PIERSNICA

Hello all, I'm still really new here, but I'm quite enthralled by the series. I just bought the DVDs of Amazon! (I was borrowing a set from a friend who insisted I needed to watch them).

Oh, what an exciting day; I can't wait for them to arrive!

Some random thouights on the show:

Mal's my favorite character, followed closely by Book. My favorite episode... Hm, that's difficult. The show is extremely quotable (almost as good density as the Simpsons or Futurama, and that's high praise from me), and extremely watchable.

I've made my first convert already; a friend was visiting and I said "You gotta watch this," so we watched the first episode, and then he watched 3 more on his own initiative.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the board Piersnica. We are always happy to have a new browncoat join us.

Glad to hear you picked up a copy of the DVD set. You will soon look upon it as a great investment. I know I have watched mine many times over, and never grow tired of the set. Now you can use the set to introduce more friends, family and others to the show to convert them as well.

THe Firefly DVDs just arrived last friday. I was shocked to find out that it contained the complete series! In the sense that no more episodes are being made!

Firefly is just being recently aired in Holland and I've been watching it from the start. The trailers/ads the station aired about the series got me interested. It is being aired directly against Andromeda Ascendant. I at first planned to watch Andromeda, since it looked much nicer from the trailers, but Firefly started 15 minutes earlier, so I thought I'd give it a try and then switch to Andromeda as soon as it's on.

I never did.

Firefly got me hooked, it has interesting, strong, well- rounded characters, it doesn't have that irritating Friendslike dialogue/mimicry/atmosphere that seems to be pervading US serials (I was surprised that the writers were the same as that of Buffy, since Buffy also has suchlike dialogues now).

I can't believe how this show got cancelled, or perhaps I can, considering what kind of series are popular in the US.

Hmm... don't want to sound bitter or anything towards the US audience, since you obviously are also mainly from the US and love the series, I just cannot stand it that the show was cancelled. Just when I got really excited about a tv series for a long time.

Fireflies is actually the first series that I plan my schedule around to watch, I make sure that I watch this. I've not been like this with a series since... ever!

This series is just excellent, everything about it is excellent. THe casting, the stories, the acting, the special effects, everything!

Also, Kaylee reminds me of an old girlfriend of mine and Simon reminds me a bit of how I used to be, it's uncanny. And it didn't work out, mainly because of me. And when I see them in the series, it's like... well, I'm just rooting for them to be happy together.

I heard Whedon talk that Firefly is his baby, the story he really wants to tell. So although Fox is being such bastards to cancel it, I hope he keeps on writing for it and try to plug it to another station or even try his luck with a European network or financier. Or if that fails just write books and tell his story.

I think I will always hold a grudge against Fox for taking Firefly away from me.

I've got good news for you: If you haven't seen it on the rest of the site by now, Joss is making the movie, titled "Serenity", and it's due to come out (at least in the U.S.) on April 22, 2005, and if it gets a good turn out, it might become the first of a trilogy. Shiny, huh!

It's ok, sound bitter. We're bitter too. Most of the "series that are popular in the US." are crap and from what I've read one the postings here, very few of us watch those. There are a few decent shows left, but nothing could ever compare in a positive light to Firefly. Sure Alias is still great and I look forward to trying "the Lost" (new show from the same writer) but without Angel and Firefly there just isn't much left. All this "reality" is a waste.
There is one reality show, however, that I'd love to see. All the network execs at FOX and WB who over Joss's shows compete simutaneously in an apple bobbing game. They obviously never watched the show so they'll be surprised by the "Alliance" apples.

Yeah, I'm quite excited about it, I'd definitely go watch it the moment it's available here, but... I just hope that it will be like an extra long episode instead of being a shallow summary of the story. I'm still crossing my fingers that Firefly will be picked up again, while the original cast is still available.

Firefly has as a premise such a big Chinese influence. Perhaps if this is being exploited more, we could get some Chinese financiers.

By the way, to the people who live in Europe. You can also order it from play.com. No delivery costs.

You know, I think they've seen the show or at least some of it. Especially since Joss was forced to modify his vision at their instructions. But they saw it with those cold calculating blue hands eyes.

THey're only interested in high viewer ratings and selling commercial air for the highest price. Not in the pure pleasure of just enjoying watching the art that is Firefly.

Although... if I'm allowed to step into conspiracy mode for a second. It seems that ever since they knew what the story was roughly about, they did all they could to sabotage it...
