Hey everyone, I've been lurking for a while but I didn't see this posted anywhere. There is a script review over at aint-it-cool-news.com (minor minor spoilers). Check it out. Everything sounds excellent so far. http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/display.cgi?id=17749

Wow. I hate to break the unwritten poster rules with a one word post reply (which I suppose since I have now typed this I didnt), but, unarguably, wow. How many days left?

HOLY CRAP what is wrong with you people?

I bet you all snuck into your parents rooms to open all your presents on, like, Dec. 22 or something.

Wait for the movie, you weirdos. Why ruin it for yourself?

what everyone seems to have failed to have mentioned is that the review is spoiler free!!! the girl is a massive JW fan and she also didnt want her to be the one who leaked spoilers its just a general 'this was good that was good review" it almost makes you wish she had actually spoiled you she's so vauge at some points.so its pretty much safe to look at.

Actually, the poster took explicit (and, to my mind, successful) pains to leave the review as non-spoilery as could be, while still conveying a sense of how well Joss has accomplished his aims. Truly, only the spoiler-free purist (one of which, by now it must be plain, I ain't) would be vexed by this review.

But, to filter even further, let me just say that many of my doubts and fears about Joss' first foray into silver-screen-dom have been put soundly to bed by this wee tease! Sounds like a FILM..and a (Big) Damn Good One.

Counting the days.......

Keep flyin'!

I'm going to spoiler-code the bits I paste from the review, just in case they're spoilerific in some way I'm too dumb to notice :)

Select to view spoiler:

(Also, and just to be anal-retentive here, Whedon on occasion seems to use the words “galaxy” and “solar system” interchangeably in some of his descriptions, though I trust that’s a problem that’ll be worked out by the f/x boys long before post-production time.)

What's the chance that this is deliberate, and *won't* be removed by the 'f/x boys' ever? ;) I can well imagine Joss using each term in just the right places to bring a whole new lot of fresh (and typically inconclusive) evidence to the argument :) Could this be a subtle fan reference in itself?

Select to view spoiler:

Only one cast member has notably fewer scenes than the rest, and I almost wonder if there wasn’t a rather severe scheduling conflict that necessitated that person’s absence from much of the filming.

My money's on Ron Glass as being the one she's talking about here, and may indicate why so few sites are reporting his inclusion in the cast.

Select to view spoiler:

Alternatively, I suppose plot-wise perhaps Zoe, Wash, Kaylee or Inara could be sacrificable so that we can concentrate on one of the more relevant characters. Although - if there's action scenes, Zoe's likely to be in them, and Joss would be insane to not put Kaylee in every single scene, if only to sell the film to the Great Hormonal Masses... Same for Inara, actually. Hmmm. Okay, perhaps Wash is the only option apart from Book.

Anyway, this looks excellent. A couple of things definitely put my mind at ease. I'm happy that

Select to view spoiler:

new fans should be easy to convert on the film alone

, and that

Select to view spoiler:

mal is definitively the main character,

rather than

Select to view spoiler:

farming screen-time out to one of the others, which would just be plain wrong.

Woo! :)

ZOID

3EyedCrow, et al:

First: What's "3EyedCrow" a reference to? Does it have something to do with a henchman who's got second sight, but still manages to get put through the portside engine nacelle? Is it a 3Eyed male crow, or a 3Eyed female crow?

Second: The 'review' was interesting, and convinces me more than ever that I've gotten most of the major plot points right whenever I speculate on Firefly... Of course, I suspect all the other, contradicting speculators feel exactly the same way. (Still, read zoid's at your own risk.) It'll be fun seeing who-got-what-right at the theater, and watching people 'back and fill' here at FFFn the next day...

Third: Remember, there should always be a point 'Number 3'. No good explanation can stop with only two points. You heard it here first.

There was one thing that caught my eye in that review:

Select to view spoiler:

Sure they married Riker and Troi, but honestly – does anyone give a fuck?

Now, that's what I'd call '3rd eye-opening'. I just love it when girls talk trashy, don't you?

Respectfully,

zoid

recently truncated crew???

This was the one thing, other than the joke that caught my eye. Wonder who that could be?

Also, I don't know what Ron Glass is doing, but I do know that Allen just did "I,Robot" and might have to do a promotion tour of that movie, which would cut into his filming scedule. I don't know which character got the shorter screen time, but I would be guessing at Allen, rather than Ron.

And yes, I did open my presents early

I thought this phrasing was a sly reference to Joss' "spoiler" last week. It'll be interesting to see what she means by it, though. In 317 days' time...

Now THAT was exactly what I needed. I'm sure it's not just me, but I've always been content (to a certain extent) with the watching the dvd set over and over, but now that I know they're actually FILMING more I can't take it! Hoorah!

on to my thoughts: I'd bet that the "recently truncated" part is reference to Inara. It would look kind of odd, (to the browncoats) if inara did leave, but came back sometime in the six months between OIS and Serenity with no kind of explanation. It's just continuity.(sp?) Also good divice for tension between her and Mal
As far as a busy cast member, my money is on Allen. He has "I, Robot", as well as "Dodgeball" coming this summer. There are sure to be obligations there.

I can't believe we're getting our crew back

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I believe the author took great pains to keep her review spoiler free, efforts I take as a kindness.

That said, I am getting a warm & fuzzy feeling about our BDM.

I am thinking that the cast member w/ the scheduling conflict would have to be Alan. He just finished up I, Robot, and is most likely working on promoting the film. There was also talk of him filming a movie w/ Tom Hank's son in Mexico. Not sure where filming on that stands or if it has wrapped.

Only 317 days!

I thought it was a good review considering how little info was released it has still somehow made me even more optimistic that this film will be as great as we all hope it will be. I just hope no one else gets their hands on the script anytime soon as I really dont want to be spoiled on this film but I know I'll get tempted.

Zoid,

Embarrassingly enough, I didn't even make a connected between the name 3EyedCrow and our beloved Crow from the train job. Its actually a reference to the only member of my personal pantheon not named Joss Whedon, George R. R. Martin, the greatest fantasy author alive. He's writing a series called A Song of Ice and Fire, the first book being A Game of Thrones. The three eyed crow is a minor though very intriguing character in it. Check it out if you have time! Oh, and by the way, I am most definitely a male crow.

Shiny on the script type things there, very interesting indeed.

And I agree on the George Martin thing, just wish he'd get Feast of Crows out soonish, I never was one who was good at waiting patiently or anything...

*crawls cautiously out of prolonged messageboard-lurkdom with Mr. Fluff securely entrenched in her hair*

Wow, long time no see folks! Damn, don't even recognize half the people here anymore...

Anyhoo, needed to crawl out of anonymity to say: YAY! YAY! (and once more... together now) YAY! I cannot wait for the movie! That review was, while pretty much entirely spoiler free, just tantalizing enough to make me want to put myelf into a voluntary coma until April 22nd 2005 (as if it wasn't enough that I've already been giving myself aneurysms over the Farscape miniseries).

All I ask for is just a little Wash n' Zoe lovin' and I'll be happy as a little clam. Maybe I can stalk Joss into letting me have a minor roll in the next movie...

*crawls back under the table of lurkdom, with Mr. Fluff now chewing on her shirt collar*

I have had Feast of Crows on order since 4 june 2002 at amazon.co.uk... And I received an email last week that it was finally due out soon, but since then the 4-6 weeks delivery estimate has been put back to 'not yet released'... Probably because first print is already sold out in the US on pre-order. Amazon also emailed me that book 5 (which I ordered in early 2003) has been pushed back to a release date in 2007, and they cancelled my order for it.

I hope Martin doesn't kick it before he finishes the damn thing... It's about the most compelling fantasy epic I've read.

Edit: there's a comic out called Hedge Knight, set a couple of decades before the events in the books. Might help to tide you over. I think it's an ongoing series or maybe a 6-issues long series or something.
