Excellent artwork! Inara pretty!

However, if Mal was really holding Inara wouldn't his scowl be less scowly?

Well, they are floating before a destroyed planet. Im thinking that might lend itself to some scowlies.

The scowl is for the audience peeking in, he's thinking "Go away, I'm finally gonna make my move..."

That variant cover is a little depressing.
My first thought was "That isn't everyone. Oh, wait...yes, it is."

Not to mention Mal's face plastered all over the bulletins. Something tells me some bad happened right here, like Mal is telling Inara to leave again, or maybe Inara has been kicked out of the Guild, or they just found out they're all fugitives. Inara looks kinda serenely upset/sad, Mal looks kinda stony.

I was thinking the Alliance took out it's anger on Mal by destroying Shadow, then framed Mal for the atrocity, hence the "wanted" bulletins. Inara is trying to console him. I hope River is paying attention to those big ass planet fragments!

Since Shadow is already gone, its possible Mal gets framed for destroying the Training House Moon, or another planet the Alliance is willing to sacrifice.

Inara looks sad, vulnerable, in need of comfort, and Mal, well, he borders on empathetic, but defiant, either scenario, it’s going pear-shaped. And, it has me curiously looking forward to the story.

Oops...forgot Shadow was already a ghost planet.

Isn't the Shadow story line from the role playing game? If so it might get ignored.

I do not fear God, I fear the ignorance of man.

hmm..I think Joss himself said this in the Movie Companion; Shadow was destroyed during the war, left uninhabitable. Plus, it is part of Mal's personal lore, that he lost "everything" in the war.

Now, of course they could nuke the planet, but that would be somewhat, ineffectual?

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.
