Dun is a troll? I mean he has a lot of incoherent days and "lost mah glasses" can't see to type days, but I wouldn't call him a troll...

More "leprechaunish" than troll, but they're both green, so I can see why you're confused...

Ok let's try this again!

Heyo! Somewhat new here. FYI a "bump" isa post in a discussion thread that is meant to drive the thread up to the top of the forum menu.

A troll is a despicable creature that posts inflammatory comments in a forum thread with the sole purpose of eliciting an emotional response. Do not give in to the urge to try to correct the troll. Just warn your fellow Browncoats, and back away slowly. Oh...don't ever make eye contact neither...

Har har har! Mine is an evil laugh!

...by my pretty dim sum bonnet, I will end you...

Ni hao!

I've been a huge Firefly fan since the first days of the series, but never got involved in the fandom during the heydey years, mostly because I was nose-deep in Real Life and couldn't risk falling down the shiny, shiny rabbit hole!

A couple of months back now, a good friend was visiting from far-out-of-state, and got to commiserating with me and my hubby about how much we loved our respective Firefly table-top campaigns, and how much we missed them once they were over. That somehow progressed to a general carping about how we'd never seen Firefly fandom go the route of early Trek 'zine fandom -- the whole "create a ship/create a crew/write and draw about their adventures for the club 'zine" routine -- and how if we'd ever seen a Firefly group like that, we would have begged, pleaded, and sold our firstborns to join. Well... the thoughtworm got firmly planted... and we wound up doing just that -- we've created our own ship, our own crew, and now we're writin' & drawin' about their adventures.

It feels kinda strange to go this OC Firefly direction, so many years after the series and film! But we're having a blast with it -- a turtle-paced blast. :)

I'd really love to find a willing beta reader (or two! or three!), and would love to share 'Verse world-building-detail resources with other writers... Some of us involved in this are detail-wanks and really enjoy the fiddly-little details, so I'd love to have other fans to bounce ideas off of, and to help me keep my own fics sounding like they take place in the 'Verse.

(Like... the question I've been fretting over the most the past week: who does a Firefly refuel? Gaming resources and the Serenity pilot say it's a fuel cell system, but the Serenity Blueprints look like a liquid fuel system...)

Firefly Transport Jin Dui

Hello,

nice to have found this place. Only discovered Firefly late last year. Bought the DVD box for my Dad... and well... you can imagine the rest.

Have only just finished watching the series the second time, so looking forward to the next one, I'm sure I've missed some moments.
(that, btw, is the sign of a good show... when one's looking forward to the 3rd viewing. not many of those around)

Anyhow.. just wanted to say ev'nin' to all, hope you all have a good time.

Welcome to all the new people's, sorry I've been too busy to write a proper welcome (and I admit- a wee bit unmotivated lately here in the mid-summer doldrums)

I'll just set out the Ice-planets and a stack of Virtual Browncoats(don't worry- you can put them on in a couple months ), then, and scuttle back behind the bar.
Enjoy!

Hiya! Just finished a Firefly marathon weekend by watching the fan documentary. Always makes me sad that I missed out on all that fandom. I'm one of those that found Firefly 10 years too late when a Browncoat gifted me the DVD box set and said "you've got to watch this!" Best and worst gift ever, since I watched and became hooked, knowing there would be no more episodes. But alas, i am hooked. The documentary made me wonder if the fan forums were still active...so here I am!

Hi everyone!! Discovered the delights of Firefly all too late, back in 2008 or so... Nevertheless, being all in the United Kingdom of Europe and that (boy, I'd love to be king of all Londinium and wear a shiny hat...) there's not been much to miss! Most the best stuff goes on in the US, as far as I can see! I'm so jealous of you guys :O
Anyway, don't mind me, imma just go play in the engine room.

MALINGER

Greetings!

Joined a week or so ago. I've been involved with SF fandom since the mid-'80s, but never much Firefly stuff.

I never saw the show in its original run. (I heard that it was in the making and I was interested in seeing it, until I caught one of the promos. We didn't have Fox anyway, and the FF promos gave me no desire to try to get it.)

After the show premiered, I heard reports that it was unusually good and different from the rest. For the most part, I ignored such reviews, having heard pretty much the same thing a few years earlier about "Farscape" -- a show that, although better than most, I still found somewhat lackluster.

When the movie came into existence, the series went on my "I really have to watch that series someday before someone gives me spoilers" list. Watching the series didn't come to pass until a couple years later when I caught an episode rerun on Science Channel, thought "Kinda simplistic with a really transparent formula, but yeah, not too bad at all", then watched another one and thought "Okay, hooked now. . .I gotta see all of these and in the correct order!". I shut off the TV (with some difficulty), ordered the complete series and movie on Bluray, and anxiously waited for their arrival.

I got a bit burnt out on it, though, having watched through all the episodes several times and also all the special features. A couple months ago, I watched through again. Then, recently, I caught Done the Impossibleon Netflix (which then gave me the itch to watch them all yet again) and that got me thinking it was high time I took another peek at FF fandom.

So here I am.

Hey, thanks for the lesson in government. I had been under the impression that the United Kingdom included Ireland, but apparently it only includes Northern Ireland (if no dispute is assumed). I didn't even know there were currently 2 Irelands. Well, that certainly puts some of history into different perspective for me.

I did not mean to insult you. You must be from Republic of Ireland. That was what I had meant - some folk in America of Irish descent state that they are Irish - and it is one of the most vociferously claimed, defended, and celebrated cultural identities about - and not just on St. Patrick's Day. But you are still in the country, on the other side of the pond.

Are you saying Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland are on 2 different islands? Or is your local terminology for United Kingdom not include Northern Ireland?

I think I did see some CSTS activity in Ireland, have you gone to one yet?

in my opinion ireland is one island (the north included) britain is a separate island. the uk government may control the 6 counties contained within what is known as northern ireland but the people are still irish by blood.

Wishimay-

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm so glad to be here!! As to your question about whether or not I'm published, the answer is yes...soon to be anyway. :) I have a book coming out within the next year about Firefly and Philosophy. Instead of it being a compilation philosophy/ pop culture book, I've written this one myself. I've been studying and compiling it for about 7 yrs. now, digging through all types of philosophies and little details of FF/ Serenity so I'm pretty proud of it. The manuscript is due on 12/15 (which just happens to be my bday)...I can't wait! :)

I love reading the discussions of the episodes and the scripts. The attention to and the dissection of details is something my family and I do all the time. We love watching the episodes, but I think discussing them can be just as compelling.
