I was looking over my profile today and noticed I've been a member since August 22, 2002. I was wondering how many of you signed up here even before that?

Yup. The initial core code, which has since been rewritten, was originally developed for an Andromeda site. Without going into the details, the production company that produced Andromeda, imho, betrayed the fans by doing a lot of crappy things that ruined the series. So I (and likely many others) stopped watching the series and yanked my support.

I've since heard the series was cancelled because the production company went out of business (gee, I wonder why). And I've also heard that the writing was so bad that even the series finale sucked pidan (Chinese thousand years old egg).

Man, I better stop here before I start ranting about all the crap that went on with that series.

Some of the early beginnings of this board's software and backend was andromedatvfans.net.

About the time that sort of crapped out, Haken saw the early seedlings of Firefly and converted and used the same software for this new website. It has grown a lot since then.

I think that, for a long while, andromeda remained a forum within this site, but was let go eventually.

[never mind. Just read Haken's post about this site originally being an andromeda site. I assume M31 was a member of that forum.]

I didn't want to waste good code. Sure, I could have sold the code and bought a BMW, but then, there wouldn't be a great Firefly site with a great family of Browncoats.

I'm definately sure I made the right choice.

Actually the 5th season is in production, without the currenly very pregnant Lexa Doig (I'm happy for her and wish her dozens of fat children). How they're gonna do "Andromeda" without Andromeda herself remains to be seen. They'll probably just call it "Captain Hunt Saves The Universe!" or something.

And yes, the season finale did suck (they finally gave up pretending and had Dylan deus ex machinaed into a god ).

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that the code (or the site) was crap. I meant that about the time the show crapped out.

Hey, all programmers are "lazy" by trade. Who wants to rewrite code that has been written already? People who keep rewriting the same stuff over and over and over again are crazy and inefficient.

Yeah, I'm kind of curious about the pregnancy too as I hadnt heard about it and they dont have a bio for her in the IMDB.

The fifth season is going to be on sci-fi which leads me to want to withhold judgement until it starts up. Sci-fi Channel can be pretty hit and miss about quality and I'm willing to hope that they can pull off a good last season and let the show die in peace.

You know, especially since it was a good show in the begining.

Got to agree with both of you here: Andromeda had the potential to be a great show, and then became horrible beyond belief. And the finale was one of the worst-ever I've seen ... arrogant doesn't even come close.

Thanks for the segue from Andromeda to Firefly, Haken! Muchly appreciated.

Married, in fact. Tied the knot sometime last year, IIRC.

Update, apparently Lexa's Head will be appearing on the show, as the viewscreen AI and possibly with her head mounted on someone else's body (via special effects, of course ) for the holo-rommie. She'll probably also be doing voice work (as the ship's intercomm). No actual Ship-Made-Flesh android, though.

On occasion I like to look forward a couple of decades to the potential Andromeda remake (a la Battlestar Galactica 2003).

I seem to remember some years ago, when Andromeda was first starting, it had a huge committment for several seasons - something similar with Earth:Final Conflict I think.

Having finished sobbing at the injustice of Kevin Sorbo's continued employment, it got me wondering, why can't good TV shows get this level of backing up front.

Anyone wonder whether Roman Abramovich could be persuaded to purchase the Whedonverse (we could start looking forward to De Niro playing the Master and Pacino as a very shouty member of the Watcher's Council).

Let's see how far that quip travels...

. . . sniff! . . . snort! . . .

She's a fellow Canadian, too. I coulda made 'er happy.

. . . >adjust hair< . . . >sniff . . . danged alergies<

For confirmation, go here: http://www.lexaonline.com/

I thought co-creator Fireworks Prods. went tango uniform and took the show with it? But anyway, Lexa does mention a fifth season is underway.

Anyway, it was the self-important Kevin Sorbo that made it difficult for me to watch Andromeda at first. But the stories seemed quite good. However, it wasn't too long before I simply didn't care anymore.

Fireworks is indeed belly-up (and not in the good way), but Andromeda production has shifted to Sci-Fi, apparently.

It'll still be syndicated, but the syndication airings will be a week or so behind.

I signed up about five minutes after watching a preview daily someone put up of the confrontation in the bar from The Train Job.

I went diggin for a fansite right off and found this one, mostly lurked a while, occasionally throwing a philosphical grenade here and there.

Place grew on me, what can I say ?

I also got lucky and saw one of the ultra-rare promo spots for it on someone elses TV and it hooked my attention instantly, which is what drew me to the preview daily in the first place.
