An episode where the Alliance stops chasing the Tams.

Until the movie, the Alliance did not know the Tams were on Serenity. The comic book after the movie handles the Tams-on-Serenity/Alliance-destroys-Serenity problem by Serenity staying hidden when it is not making a quick stop on some prison planet in a secret location.

Unless the Tams switch to a new ship with a name unknown by the Alliance, the possible stories with Mal & Serenity will be fewer than the first season, at least until the Alliance stops for good reason chasing the Tams.

Ooo, I just thought of a scenario. Mal and Company step in a criminal organization that's more far reaching than Niska's, and they're constrained to take on more jobs in Alliance territory just to get by.

How about this episode: Inara arranges a short-term lease of Serenity to a charity called “Doctors without Borders”, the interplanetary version. Simon is one of the two doctors hired by the charity for the mission.

Is Kaylee in love with Simon or will she switch allegiance to the new doctor?

Assuming we're picking up from the end of the movie (rather than the end of the series, or including the comics), I've seen enough Joss Whedon to know that there are three inevitable episodes:

1) The one where Mal and Inara hook up.

2) The one where Mal and Inara break up.

3) The one where Simon and Kaylee break up.

Don't forget:

The one where Saffron and Inara have to work together! (I'll be in my bunk)

Meanwhile, now that River is a bit more compos mentis, there's an interesting relationship triangle between Mal, River and Simon that's heading for fireworks. Not in a romantic, "someone's going to the special hell" sense, of course, but Mal and River are obviously bonding, and Mal wouldn't be Simon's first choice for his kid sister's new father-figure...

How about we find out the independent movement didn't die out but instead went underground. After all, somebody was informed enough to know what was going on where the Alliance was keeping River and also had the where with all to get her out.
