Hi,

I understand there were comics and books about firefly (and have found a few).

Is there a comprehensive list somewhere?

Thanks.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

As for the comics, check out this wiki article - http://firefly.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Comics

Searching around that site will probably yield all the information you're looking for, but then again, you might not know the search terms to use.

There are books other than the comics:
Serenity, novelization of the screenplay by Keith R. A. DeCandido
Firefly: Visual Companion, Volumes 1 & 2
Serenity Visual Companion - these three volumes include the scripts for all episodes + the movie
Still Flying - tenth anniversary celebration that includes essays and four short stories written by series writers
Both Firefly Visual Companions and Still Flying (but not the Serenity VC) were later collected together as "Firefly: A Celebration"
Finding Serenity & Serenity Found are collections of essays edited by Jane Espenson (she wrote "Shindig")

There are also at least two different RPG books, but since I don't do games like that, someone else needs to give you the details on them.

One other thing, which is still available for download via Creative Commons License, prominent author Steven Brust wrote a Firefly novel on spec since at one time it seemed like a possibility of a book series, but either Joss nixed the deal or FOX and/or Universal didn't think it was a good idea. You can find the download link here - http://dreamcafe.com/downloads/ - scroll down the page to "My Own Kind of Freedom."

I'm sure I missed a few things, or maybe many things, but those are the ones I'm familiar with, and other than the RPG books, I have them all. Good luck tracking them down.

I think you've covered the non-RPG, non-comic stuff.

There were two different RPG lines: Serenity (back around the time of the movie) and Firefly (starting in 2013, I think).

Serenity had the core player book and, I believe, four other products. You can find a comprehensive list on Wikipedia.

Firefly has a core book and the following:

Echoes of War (which collects 4 different stories available as pdfs)
Things Don't Go Smooth
Smuggler's Guide to the Rim
Ghosts in the Black (I may be wrong on that title)
There is also a 5th "Echoes of War" module that's only available as a pdf. I believe it's "Bucking the Tiger"

All of these are available at most RPG sites, the official site for Margaret Weis Productions, or as pdfs at enworld.org.

For comics, there have been 5 "major" pieces (long stories or mini-series), along with at least three short stories:

THOSE LEFT BEHIND is basically the Season One finale, wrapping up some of the storylines from the show and serving as a bridge to the movie.

BETTER DAYS is a "missing" episode from during the continuity of the show (ie, Wash, Book, and Inara are all onboard).

THE SHEPHERD'S TALE is a hard-cover one-shot that details Shepherd Book's secret history.

FLOAT OUT is a one-shot that basically serves as a "wake" for Wash (for the audience, not the characters). It's about three friends of Wash's (not from the show) reminiscing about him, but includes a major cameo.

LEAVES ON THE WIND is the first major story set post-SERENITY and shows us where the characters are months after the movie ends.

Those Left Behind, Better Days/Float Out, and Leaves on the Wind have all been collected as trade paperbacks, with the shorts also tucked in. Basically, if you get the three collection and The Shepherd's Tale, you've got everything to date.

In addition to all this, other things you may want to check out are the upcoming MMO at keepflying.com and the excellent boardgame at fireflythegame.com. There is also a card game, a dice game, Tall Card, and a strategy game called Fistful of Credits. All of these have come out since 2013 so should be readily available (except the ones that haven't been released yet) at a site like CoolStuffInc.com or even amazon.

Those three short Firefly comics are online.

It is 8 pages long.

2) Serenity: Downtime can be read for free here:

It is 9 pages.

3) Serenity: It’s Never Easy
The first 5 pages as a preview (and a Star Wars comic preview by Zack Whedon) can be downloaded here:
www.freecomicbookday.com/Home/1/1/27/1041?stockItemID=STK459374

It's never easy, but all 12 pages plus the Star Wars Comic can be downloaded here:

IIRC, the trade paperback edition of "Better Days" doesn't have the other short stories in it. You have to get the hardback edition "Better Days and Other Stories".

Thank you all for the help. I was wondering that too. So, in order to read/watch chronologically, after firefly I should read Those Left Behind, then Better Days and Shepherd's Tale for filler, watch Serenity, then read Leaves on the Wind. Is that correct? Thanks for all the friendly advice for a newbie!

Read Shepherd's Tale after Serenity.

And Float Out and the It's Never Easy short are also post Serenity.
