Hey folks.

After watching Firefly and Serenity, I tried to hunt down what additional content there was. The deleted scenes. The River Tam sessions. The novelization of Serenity. The comic books. The script for "Dead or Alive." The 190-page original Serenity script. Until recently, I didn't realize there were additional short stories in "Firefly: Still Flying." I'm trying to figure out what else I might be missing out on.

I'm thinking of getting "Firefly: A Celebration (Anniversary Edition) (Hardcover)" which seems to include "Firefly: The Official Companion: Volume One," "Firefly: The Official Companion: Volume Two," and "Firefly: Still Flying." Is there anything else I haven't mentioned that I should check out?

Extended firefly gag reel

there used to be a lot of the videos pulled from the Official FOX Firefly site on YouTube, but looks like they're mostly all gone. That's the only one I could find.

And yes, definitely get Firefly: A Celebration. Well worth the $$, unless you already have the individual books. There's also a visual companion book for Serenity, but that's only in a soft cover.

Do you have the show/movie on disc? There's a lot of behind the scenes stuff on them that streamers miss.

Eta: you're the "no TV" person, ain't ya?

Done the Impossible, fanmade documentary about the show and the Browncoats.

Browncoats Unite! The Science Channel's 10th Anniversary Show.

If you look hard enough, you can find both on the internet.
You can rent/buy DTI through Amazon and iTunes.

Relighting Firefly- a short made to create buzz for the movie. It was released as a bonus disc with the Battlestar Galactica Season 1 boxset.

Serenity Commentary from the bluray.
The audio is slightly out of synch with the video.

Good memory! Yeah, I am the "no TV" person. I'm not against it; I just don't have a TV (or other way to play DVDs).

Thanks for the suggestion about the Serenity visual companion. I just looked it up on Amazon, and everyone seems to love it.

I forgot to list "My Own Kind of Freedom." I guess it's not quite canon, but it seems worth the read (so far).

Have you (or anyone else) read "Joss Whedon: The Biography" by Amy Pascale? What about "Joss Whedon: The Complete Companion: The TV Series, the Movies, the Comic Books and More: The Essential Guide to the Whedonverse" by PopMatters? Are either of these (or any other Joss Whedon book you've read) worth recommending?

Well the obvious additional content is the River Tam Sessions (sometimes known as the 416 sessions) - 5 short vids produced as part of guerilla marketing starring Summer and Joss. Not a lot, but it's cannon (in that it's written by Joss). A quick google will find you lots of sites with these still archived/active.

Then there's the fan films, which do vary in quality, but are all made with love and enthusiasm and many are extremely good.

River Tam Sessions made my list, but I hadn't seen all of this fan created content. Sorting through serenityfirefly.com now! Thanks!

Nae bother :-) There's a mass of links to stuff on The Signal site - though some of the links to external content may have lapsed (River Tam sessions one has for example) It's essentially an archived site now and not actively updated as of course we finished The Signal podcast at the end of 2014 with the super sized Season 10 finale...so yeah, there's also well over 200 episodes of The Signal itself with articles, interviews, full cast audio drama (ahem :-), Firefilk music and all sorts. (Ob plug: The Broadwaves segment has just been given new life as a stand alone podcast with may of the same Signal crew involved)

(See the Firecasts page on this site - not up to date, but Sending a Wave is still running - Waves at Webwych - and the others are all worth a listen. Firelfly Talk in particular had a lot of recordings of convention panels from back in the day)

I was going to mention The Serenity Companion, which spawned the 2 Firefly Companions due to it's popularity. But looks like that is noted above.
Same with Done the Impossible - many hours of content there - many hours.

I have the Soundtrack from Serenity (David Newman) and for Firefly (Greg Edmondson), and I enjoy both, but Firefly more than Serenity.

I have been very fond of my copies of the Map of The Verse, from QMX but with Joss and Universal input. Some of these and maybe others are discussed or linked in The Writer's Resource Thread in Blue Sun Room forum.
The White Papers accompany the Map of the Verse (in application, but not when you purchase the Map)

The Collector Edition of Serenity did include some content, interviews etc. - not sure if you had those.

A lot of the earlier QMX material is very good and massively detailed (later stuff is cool, but not so heavy on content as it's mainly figures)

In addition to The Map (had some minor input on that) and Chris J Boudier's White Paper on The Verse, theres:

The Serenity Blueprints. Original limited edition poster size and the easier to find space for A3 size Reference Pack (some minor Signal input to that too)

Atlas of The Verse - similar size single volume (and Chen's Throat Emporium appears in the Persephone docks section, thanks to Ben Mund :-) shame they didn't follow up on that.

Map of Serenity Valley print. Ben Mund again with the incredible detailed and beautiful map (lots of Easter egs there)

John Mulaney's Serenity Cutaway poster set (*ridiculously* detailed and awesome - John did a lot of the Star Wars cutaway stuff for DK as well as loads more) Even more Easter eggs in these. Geoff Mandel (Serenity designer) was also involved with these and the Map.

Serenity's Ships Papers: screen accurate replica of the bundle handed to the Alliance in the series.(Interesting as while these are a specific Firefly prop, this was done while QMx only held the Serenity licence - sneaked that one in there :-)

There's the various Serenity Money packs - nice replicas of screen used notes. Plus travel posters, T shirts, postcards - lots of varying priced stuff

The various Mal's Pistol prop replica versions, Serenity models and the assorted figures of course

And of course there's the Margret Weis Serenity RPG and expansion packs - loads of cool stuff in those (not "canon" but very carefully thought out and nicely produced)

And the Fan Content has already been mentioned, including of course all the stuff on this site and linked to from this site ("Season 2" scripts etc)

It's quite a rich vein of licenced and fan generated material all in all

Done the Impossible is the fan documentary?

What are The White Papers? I'm having trouble Googling them.

How literally is the Atlas of the Verse an atlas?

Yeah, Done the Impossible is the fan documentary.
I posted the trailer early in the thread.

The White Paper (aka The Verse in Numbera) is a companion piece to the Official Map of the 'Verse.

All correct. Thanks for helping - I wasn't as clear and the Writer's Resource has a lot of stuff in it.

The Atlas is more a brochure of places in the Verse. Intended to be an expansion of the Map, focussing on locales from the series and film, it was going to be several volumes. Only the first part was published sadly. It's lovely though.

The large spiral bound format (like that of the Blueprints reference pack) is a bit of a bugger to store however, as it won't easily fit any shelf and really needs to be laid flat - keep wrapped up or it just gathers dust!

Ah thanks Mike - I couldn't for the life of me remember the old forum addy and have just switched laptops so my bookmarks are all a bit Pete Tong atm.

YES - this list on one of the old Serenity forums (not the original Fox board, but run by Jeremy of Done The Impossible originally. And home to the Signal sub-forum for many years) is probably the most comprehensive listing of fan film content and sites you will find. Glad to see it still updated and maintained as an archive!

And yes, MJ is still working on rendering Bellflower - what's done so far is beautiful.

BTW, check out Mike's separate prop making thread - incredible stuff!
