Just. This. I know - I know it's stuff from almost 10 years ago - but I found out just yesterday - and it really, really pisses me off. Not just because is insulting one of my favorite series with her crass ignoarance and boasting of supposedly watching it all multiple times...because she's an arrogant, superficial, misandric, bigoted BITCH, slandering with her fundamentalism real rape victims, insulting not just Joss Whedon but also every male existing, because there are actually morons who believe her dirty, paranoid lies.

I am sorry for this rant, but I really needed to get it all out. Whew...so, can any browncoat woman around here just share their own opinion on the subject, so my faith in mankind can be restored?

I'd like to second AAA3's encouragement for any women to weigh in. I think an important part of being an ally against inequality is being receptive to criticism. I am certainly someone who has considered Joss a feminist (and considers feminist a compliment), but I wanted to read this article with an open mind. There isn't much in it that initially resonates with me, but if there are women who agree with it, I'd love to hear.

Here is the very first complaint about the script and then I give you the rest of the dialogue, which shows that you are deliberately being mislead by “A Rapist's View of the World: Joss Whedon and Firefly”:

So in the very second scene of the very first episode, an episode written and directed by the great feminist Joss, a white man tells a black woman to ‘shut up’ for no apparent reason. And she does shut up. And she continues to call him sir.

No apparent reason? That is a flat lie:

MAL "Bizui." (continuing) Shut it down, Wash. Everything but the air.
WASH Shutting down. Kaylee! KAYLEE! Go to black out! We're being buzzed!

"Bizui" really means "Close mouth" except Mal mispronounced both syllables and what he said doesn't mean anything in Mandarin. It certainly does not mean "Be quiet you inferior woman, a superior man is speaking to another superior man."
