There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

He admits he never saw it. Click on his forums link and check out the Serenity movie thread. His is the second post, saying he did not see it, and you'll recognize quite a few of the other participants in that thread.

Good for the browncoats to jump to the BDMs defense & try to set this uninitiated, so called critic straight.

ummm, let me get this straight: he didn't see it? then i guess that makes anything he'd have to say pretty nigh worthless.
sheesh.

Oh, the guy's logic it great. 'I haven't actually seen the show, but I know it has to suck because it had a small fan base when it was on the aire, and if it was so great why hasn't anybody else picked it up like "family guy"?' I'm sure each and everyone already knows the responces to both claims so I'm not getting into it. I did post on his forum, not for his sake because it's obvious he's not changing his mind, but in case there's posters on his board that may give Serenity a chance.

America loves a winner!

That pencil dick is nothing more than a self absorbed pin head who simply enjoys ridiculing anything remotely popular so as to get some sort of attention. Clearly this has a chip on his shoulder the size of Montana.

I'll bet he likes hearing his name screamed out during sex...sad thing is, he's always alone when that happens.

For those who won't give Firefly a chance, I point them to Firefly's Amazon page. While 1029 people doesn't seem a lot, tried finding another TV show with that many reviews with an average of 5 stars.

I am still looking.

But after the watching 'Serenity' episode, they are usually hooked.

DESANGRO

Now, not that I'm going to call him names or anything. . . but I would like to point out in the interest of fairness that my namesake, Citizen Corporal DeSangro, was not a nice lady. She was big, tough, mean, and had a fletchette gun and knew how to use it.

Just keep that in mind.

However, he did give "Dark City" a good review, so I'll let him slide on that. And everyone's entitled to their own opinion, though I noticed that all the Firefly links led right back to here. Either the poor man thinks that this is the official site, or he has something against us Browncoats.

And. . . I just checked the site, and yes, Virginia, he does have something against us. Why, I'll never know. I've never met the man. I've never insulted anything he enjoys.

You know, I used to like the X-Files. Then it jumped the shark somewhere around the 7th or 8th season, and I quit the fandom. But I don't spew vitriol against people who like the X-Files.

Why does he need to spew hatred against us? What have we done? I feel. . . injured.

Haken, I think that you should email him and ask him politely to take his link to your site down. I really in all honesty think this.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I have to agree w/ him that some of the more colorful descriptions of him here in this thread are unnecessary and crude. Our conduct should be better than that, don't you think? No sense sinking to the mud slinging level to try to convince him we are right.

It seems that the impassioned arguements of our fellow Browncoats has caused him to be willing to at least view the DVD set now. That is more than most of the critics of Firefly are willing to do. Perhaps he will even become a browncoat.

Well...reading the premise on some of the "Firefly" sites, the show does seem interesting. I will give it shot.

It seems that we might just have won ourselves yet another convert.

Right on, BronwCoat1! One need only have a glance at the various Talkbacks on, say www.aintitcool.com (not for the faint of heart; makes South Park look like NPR) to get a sense of what much on-line fandom is like. We can surely do better than that! (though, I must say, STATIC gave me a fun new word to play with, above ).

One of the things which has always distinguished the FF fans from some other fan communities I've encountered is their level of graciousness. We know we are backing a winning show, and "Serenity's" green-light is a marvelous vindication of that security (as if we needed it!). For us to become so enflamed over this bloke's comments actually weakens our position, and reduces the chances that someone will give the show a chance, since it lends itself to taking entrenched positions (the general problem with meeting force with force).

It sounds like he's willing to give the show a chance, and I'd bet my last credit that this is more because of our enthusiastic descriptions of FF than because we called him names. Actually, it sounds like we hurt his feelings a bit and, to his credit, he didn't take the counter-flame approach in the end. Score another one for the "you can catch more flies (fire or otherwise) with honey than with vinegar" camp.

I agree that it doesn't help our cause to become belligerent and insulting (regardless of whether or not the target deserves it). Also, I've looked at the site and it looks like a very small-time operation with few visitors -- let's not increase his visibility with all the commotion. If he responds to a handful of well articulated, reasoned arguments (e.g. over 1K reviews on Amazon, avg of 5 stars -- no other DVD/show has that) then great, if not then we should leave him alone with a record of our polite attempts to reason with him, so others less stubborn that stumble upon the thread in the future might be convinced to give it a try.

My 0.02 credits.

Wow, someone insulting something they've never seen and causing a rukus.....sounds a little familiar somehow. Kinda like the 'verse is holding up a mirror. There was something similar here with I,Robot. Hopefully at this point he'll watch a few eps, get hooked and print a full retraction. Or maybe he won't get the full beauty of this work of art we call Firefly, his loss. It won't stop me from loving it.

I reared my lurking head long enough to direct him to where he could find a torrent. Up to him if he goes to get one or finds the DVD's some other way. There used to be a sight that had episodes in .wmv or .mpg for download? Anyone have that available to point him toward if its still active?

As for the new hater, ignore him, he'll go away.

There was one thing on Amazon.co.uk that made me chuckle. One person claiming that Firefly was worthy of but one star because no one died in it :)

Well said Noocyte!

Now let's all hope that MrFlix gets ahold of that torrent and watches it. I have no doubt that if he watches "Serenity" first, he will fall in love and be a die hard browncoat.

He certainly did, and as we all expected it seems he likes the show:

I fully retract my earlier statement. Color me pleasantly surprised. I was only able to watch one episode. The first one. I figured the show would be a glorified 70's era, space junker but no....no. The writting was there and it was not as cheesey I expected. Matched with superb effects, it's no wonder so many "Browncoats" are head over heels about the short-lived series. It could've been hit for Fox had they put some thought into it. I'm shocked that no other netowrk has picked this up. The Sci-Fi Network picked up MST3K for a bit after Comedy Central dumped it...and at best the show had a cult following just a tad bigger than (from what I have seen)that of "Firefly". Everything seems to click on the show and I look forward to seeing more episodes.

Now if he will just admit he is a Browncoat.

A complete 180 degree turnaround after only one episode. Seems that the ol' Firefly magic is still working.

Look, no one is going to change their mind by getting cruel. What has changed his mind is people's support for the show not by swearing at him and threatning him okay along with that people gave him the facts of why firefly had low ratings and everything. He's seen the first episode now and enjoyed it. I agree that it's not right to judge anything till you see it but talking about jumping someone is not going to change their mind.
