If the Sino-Anglo Alliance became ascendant, how come there are so few Chineses working for the Alliance?

If everyone knows some Chinese, where are the common Chinese people in the Firefly universe?

Mike Strazinski was able to coral some talented Asian American actors to build a believable multi-racial Babylon 5 universe by simply INSISTING on race-blind casting. Many talented AA actors/actresses continues to be ignored by the cating agents even when the roles do NOT specify any race. They only get a shot at roles specifically named as Asian in the script.

I hope that Joss Whedon will do race-blind casting in the movie so that the movie will not be just be Bonanza in space, but an intriguing and fully fleshed plausible future.

We've talked about this in a number of threads, and I totally agree with you, tungbo. Unfortunately, none of the significant guest star roles in the BDM is played by an Asian actor either.

And, it seems, not too many background people were Asians either. I'm sure there are many Asian Firefly fans out there willing to volunteer their time to be on the BDM.

Asian actors are rare in sci-fi, there are mnay in horror, crime, kung-fu and drama movies but few in science fiction

check this thread for other points
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=13449

George Takei is famous for his Star Trek work (Lt. Sulu ) but I'm not sure if he's done much lately

Zhang Ziyi did scifi with 2046 but she's a massive and expensive China/Hollywood star

Daniel Dae Kim has done the Babylon5 scifi Crusade but he's busy with Untitled Onion Movie and the tv
show Lost

its a fact that there are very few Asian actors in sci-fi

G'day and Ni Hao folks,

I asked Joss about this very subject when I interviewed him for my genre radio show Downunder in OZ. Being of half Chinese extraction I always appreciated seeing any Asian actors at all in genre shows when I was growing up....heh, I got to thank George Takei for being a rare Asian role model in space when I interviewed him years ago too.

If you want to hear the Joss interview just type rrr.org.au into your search engine and you'll find it archived on the radio station's website.
