Alan Tudyk will play one of the leads in a new miniseries produced by Stevenn Spielberg.

*********************************************

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Steven Spielberg's epic TNT limited series "Into the West" is beginning its multigenerational cast with a trio of young actors. The $50 million series will utilize an ensemble cast to tell a story of the opening of the American West.
Alan Tudyk, Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Settle are close to signing on to play a group of brothers who move West from Virginia, but take different paths towards their Manifest Destiny.

The series, which will unfold over 12 episodes, will premiere in six two-hour episodes next summer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Titled, fittingly, "Into the West," it will look at Westward expansion in the 19th century through the eyes of one family of white settlers and one family of Native Americans.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

Okay, I revise my comment that Tudyk was on the cusp of becoming a Big Damn Star - doesn't get much bigger...

actually, I saw in a newspaper on Friday that it was someone other than Alan who had been signed...I hope the article was wrong, but I didn't find any mention of him anywhere in the article...I'll have to see if I can find it again.

From about two weeks at www.thefutoncritic.com:

INTO THE WEST (TNT) - Skeet Ulrich ("Miracles"), Alan Tudyk ("Firefly") and Matthew Settle ("Band of Brothers") are each in talks to star in the cable channel's upcoming 12-hour, $50 million mini-series. The group is set to play three spirited brothers from Virginia in the project, which tells the story of the opening of the American West in the 19th century through the eyes of two multigenerational families, one of white settlers and one of Native Americans.

So it's Alan and two others. I'm looking forward to it.

Sorry to rain on the Alan parade, but here's the article I read, and it's from July 27:

------------
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Keri Russell and Josh Brolin are heading "Into the West," with TNT's 12-hour limited series from executive producer Steven Spielberg.

"Into the West," budgeted at about $50 million, tells the story of the opening of the American West in the 19th century through the eyes of two multigenerational families, one of white settlers and one of Native Americans.

Influenced by mountain man and pioneer Jedediah (Brolin), Jacob Wheeler (Matthew Settle) and his brother Jethro (Skeet Ulrich) head west on a treacherous wagon train journey, joined by their jilted cousin Naomi (Russell). Casting is under way for the Native American roles.

Production will begin this summer for a summer 2005 premiere.

Russell and Ulrich recently starred in the CBS Hallmark Hall of Fame TV movie "The Magic of Ordinary Days." The former "Felicity" star next appears in the feature "The Upside of Anger." Brolin, who toplined NBC's short-lived drama "Mister Sterling," recently wrapped the John Stockwell-directed feature "Into the Blue."

So, unless Alan can pull off a native american role , It looks like the talks fell through. Note in the above article you quoted, that he was in "talks" - not signed. Things change in a hurry in Hollywood....would have loved to have seen him in this though!

Very sad. It certainly does look like things have changed for the worse since his announcement at Comic-con three days before the article.

QUICKSAND

Spielberg's last cable-miniseries "Band of Brothers" had a LOT of names in it... didn't exactly skyrocket anyone's career, but hey, you have a chance to work with Spielberg, you take it.

So if Alan didn't get this "Into the West" thing, that's alright... he'll get something BETTER instead.
