Every year F1 cars get faster and faster but they must be getting to the point where they cant extract any more performance from the engine.

Enter my idea.. ACTIVE WINGS! computer controlled wings front and rear, automatically trimming for minimum drag on straights and appropriate downforce for each individual turn..

Cant believe no one has thought of this before.

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

Chapparal had this in the late 60s. Their original car had a manually adjustable wing, then they made it automatically adjusting, then the rules were changed to outlaw adjustable wings.

ROBINHOOD

More technology in F1 is just going to make it even more boring than it has already become...if thats possible. Modern F1 now pales in comparison with the F1 of the 80s and 90s. the dam things will be driving themselves before long...traction control...launch control....automatic gears....F1 drivers today are wrapped up in cotton wool.
Its a huge Irony that F3000, the stage below F1 is hugely more enjoyable to watch. So is the Toca touring cars Champ too.
Take away as much technology as possible, give them a manual box with a foot operated clutch, no traction control or launch control, I'd like to see the return of proper slick tires with a big reduction in downforce, overtaking would increase because of more mechanical grip rather than downforce.
I'd like to see how Schumaker and Ferrari coped with all of that.
Make the drivers work for the money theyre given.

Yep..........................that went well!

More boring than the 90s is difficult to imagine. I liked it when pit stops came into play in F1. I stopped watching F1 in the early 90s when, during one entire season, neither of the top two contenders ever passed the other on the track.

MUTANTFRIEND

HOLY SHIT! F1 Fans!? HERE!? Browncoat F1 fans. Wow.

I'm a HUUUUUUUUUUUGE F1 nerd. But, alas, I am alone in my passion. None of my friends give two craps about racing - much less F1. This is GREAT!

So, in regard to the active wing theory... this is something that has been banned in several forms, in just about every series over the years. Hydraulic wings have long been a part of racing (done to varying degrees of complexity). Active controls (trim, etc.), like say... a stealth fighter, would indeed allow F1 cars to go quicker in the straights, corner faster and brake harder... but this is contrary to the goal of the FIA. For all intents and purposes, race cars go about as fast as they ever will (with human drivers at the wheel). Right now, today, you could make an F1 car that went 375mph...but the problem is that the drivers would DIE! Human limits of endurance, reflex, resistance to g's, etc. is at its limits.

The cars could be made faster simply by putting slicks on them and upping the HP to 1500bph (a lot easier than active wing control) - but again, this is not the goal of motorsport in general.

Hey, but someday, when cars are all remote controlled, and doing loopty-loops on the moons of Saturn - active trim will be a component of all cars. Of course, it may be a fews years before we get there...
