Hello all Browncoats,

As I've stated in the past, I work full-time at a video store and we have Firefly for rent. It's doing pretty well and everyone that's rented it has loved it. Well, early last week I decided to step up a bit on promoting our BDM. You know how when you check out at a register (mostly at entertainment-related stores), there's usually a readout stating your total? Well, whenever a register is not being used for a transaction, our readouts state:

RENT JOSS WHEDON'S FIREFLY - NOW ON DVD

So I'm doing my part. Anyone have any other suggestions for me to use? Now to snag one of those sharp-looking Zazzle shirts when I get paid! Thanks for your time gang and have a great day! :)

A truly shiny idea!!

All I could add would be to quietly slip a label (perhaps incorporating a graphic from one of the fansites) into the rental case of each disk, announcing the fact of the impending BDM, the release date, and a couple of URLs (the Universal Site, FFF [duh!], and the OB). That way, when they fall in love with our BDS, they will immediately be alerted to glorious future which awaits.

Actually, this is something we can all do: we can rent the DVDs, slap those labels on, say, behind where the disks are seated in their cases, so renters will see them, but employees inspecting the cases won't. That way, they won't remove them out of hand, and everyone who rents the set will have four chances to notice that there's something behind the shiny little disk they're about to enjoy...

All we'd need is some cheap sticker stock from an office supply store, a color printer, and a little bit of creativity. Only caveat I can think of is that we should be sure the ink from the labels won't damage the data side of the disks. Thoughts on that, anyone?

In the few minutes it's taken me to type this, I've become rather jazzed. I think I'll email the idea to Jeremy at serenitymovie for his guerilla marketing section (once I get some feeedback on the ink issue, that is). Thanks for the inspiration, FilmCritic3000!

Keep flyin'!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Love the register read out saying "RENT JOSS WHEDON'S FIREFLY - NOW ON DVD". That is a shiny idea.

I like Noocyte's idea slipping a label w/ an ad for the BDM along w/ website addresses for sites like FFF.net, the official movie site, & the OB. I also like the idea of all Browncoats putting said labels into the rental cases. Unfortunately I have yet to see a copy of the DVD set for rent around here, but I would happily attach such a label to the box sets for sale at retailers. A well done label may pass for something from the manufacturer.

Good job!!
I made a tee-shirt with space monkeys on it in hopes people would ask me about it. I'm making one that will say "Do your share for clearer air on tv, watch Firefly."
I guess the best thing we can do to help our BDHs is advertise.

With Hope because love is nothing without hope.

Thats a great idea - I have to say I'm working on word off mouth and passing my dvds round. At least I would be if I could get them back from the brother in law! Ah well, one more convert.
