That music which plays over the montages as they go to or come back from commercial...For days, it tickled the back of my brain like a...thing that tickles in a maddening fashion!

I'd heard that gorram music somewhere before. It made me feel good things, mentally prepare for a rollicking time. But it stayed...just....out....of......reach!!

Then I remembered.

Wait for it...

"The Adventures of Brisco County Junior," anyone?

When I finally realized it, I let out this whoop which, I fear, has taken some weeks off of my dog's life.

Anyway, I thought that, if any group of people would appreciate this, it would be my fellow Browncoats (some of whom might actually remember this sci-fi-tinged Western, abruptly cancelled by fux [though at least it got a whole season!]), circa 1995.

Keep flyin'!

If you've not done so already, pick up Bruce's book IF CHINS COULD KILL. It's hi-larious cover to cover.

I miss Brisco to this day. Not as much as I miss Firefly, though.

I'll second that motion.

I think they've actually been using the Brisco theme since the '96 Olympics...the same guy who wrote the music for Brisco did the Olympic theme for NBC too

Goes to show how closely I've followed the last few Olympiads!

And, yes, Bruce is a deity among humans. I've yet to read the Chins book, but it is officially on The List.

Vexing to have been reminded of "Brisco," though; talk about giving me a paper cut and pouring lemon juice in it. Could have been the "Wild Wild West" of the '90s (disregarding the atrocious film which tried vainly to fill those boots). Hmmm what was the network which gave it the "Space: Above and Beyond/VR-5/Wonderfalls" treatment.....?

Grf.

Still, it was nice to resolve the ever-irritating "where do I know that piece of music from?!?" syndrome. Good with the bad, I suppose.

Keep Flyin'!

Sorry, but thats not true. The theme NBC uses for the start of their telecasts is "The Olympic Fanfare/Bugler's Dream" written by John Williams for the 84 Los Angeles games. http://members.fortunecity.com/davidwill/olimpic.mid

Throughout their broadcasts they also use parts of "The Olympic Spirit" written by Williams for the 88 Seoul games and "Summon the Heroes" written by Williams for the 96 Atlanta games.

However, the music they use for their commercials for coverage on all their networks is the theme from Brisco County. This is the commercial that says what events are on what stations, when the coverage starts, and ends with a plug for TVGuide.com (which is weird since the schedule on nbcolympics.com is powered by zap2it). It usually airs as coverage goes to or comes out of commercial breaks.

The theme for Brisco County was not written by John Williams. IMDB lists several people for doing music for the show but does not list who wrote the theme. Out of the names listed I would make a guess that it was Randy Edelman who also wrote the theme for MacGyver.

Williams did not write these themes for NBC, he wrote them for the Olympics themselves and conducted the orchestra during the opening ceremonies. He also wrote "Call of the Champions" for the 02 Winter games in Salt Lake City, but so far I have not noticed that theme being played by NBC.

Williams did write a piece for NBC however. The theme for the NBC nightly news called "The Mission". After it was introduced SNL used the theme for Superman (also by Williams) as a parody for Weekend Update along with an opening of the Statue of Liberty which was what NBC Nightly News used at the time.

OK after reading this I'm sure at least one of you is having a Kaylee moment and is thinking, "Wow rhuttner. That was so...historical."

Thanks NOOCYTE for bringing this up. I noticed that the music for that commercial was not an Olympic theme and was wondering where it came from. I like it and think it goes well for where they are using it.

LOL! It was ... and it was very good. I'm familiar with neither the NBC music nor the Brisco County programme, but the history was fascinating.
