Hello all of you out there in the 'verse!

As has been previously established, I work full-time at a video store and have been feverishly promoting our wonderful slice of nirvana for any and all to hear. I've been suggesting Firefly to a girl that's in at least every other Tuesday. She'd been nonresponsive and kind of unimpressed. Last week, she decided to rent the series. We're renting it as a single rental. So I hadn't heard from her until this afternoon. She came in and as I was checking her movies out, I said, "So what'd you think of Firefly?" She smiled and said, "I own it!" I went, "See!" I told you it's addictive!" She then went on to say that when she went to return the Firefly DVD set to our store this past weekend, her mother said, "Do you have to return it?" They then made a mad dash and rushed out to buy it! I just thought I'd let everyone know how the grassroots promotion for our BDM is going on my end! Have a great day everybody!

I have this friend who shares a lot of my tastes with all kinds of stuff. We both agree LOTR sucks or is at as great as everymone makes it out to be, we both love the two Shenmue games even thogh they arent that popular and financially flopped, we both like Buffy and Angel and we both like Virtua Fighter better then Tekken or Soul Calibur.

But I think Firefly is better then Buffy and Angel but he now thinks it is a typical american sci-fi show wich is stupid and shows nothing new..

Though it took me like six episodes to get the show. I think im gonna explain to him nexttime that to get the show you must watch like five or six episodes in a row to get to know the characters and to get in touch with their struggle to carve out a living in harsh territory fleeying from the authorities.

My Mum (who has never seen a Joss program) has been enlisted to persuade people who call up the Fantasy and sci-fi book club that she takes calls for to buy the firefly dvd.

So far she's only had: one person who couldn't afford it but would check out the website, one who was buying for her daughter who said 'she's only into Buffy' and another who said they'd wait for the movie because from what they'd seen it wasn't up to Joss's usual writing standards!

It's so annoying having these conversations related back to me. I just want to yell at them down the telephone to tell them not to be stupid:

'Have you not seen Our Mrs Reynolds? If that's not pure Joss writing then I don't know what is you plonker!'

'Tell her how does she know she's only into Buffy if she's never seen. It's Joss for Joss' sake'

or

'Can't you like not eat for a week or something? Get your priorities straight'

My mum just said 'you can't tell customers they're stupid'

I don't see her point.

I have a convert in waiting. My first one. He's one of my oldest friends and a bit of a DVD addict. He's currently working his way through season 1 of DS9 but snapped up the FF disc when he saw it because of my recomendation. It's torture waiting for him to get to them though. At least it's another copy sold!! woooohooooo!

Bad for him, too, when he discovers he could have been watching War Stories instead of Q-less.

Anyone who converts a fan to Firefly is a Big Damn Hero, in my estimation. I salute you all!

Oh, and HEB? What is a "plonker"?

Plonker is British slang for fool, approximately. Popularized by Only Fools and Horses, which is probably your best chance to see it in a TV context:

I guess if plonker = fool, then Del Boy is the British Mr T. Never thought of that till today. Huh.

I lent disc 1 to a mate about 2 months ago. He watched Serenity within a week and all he could say was that it was okay. In a way I'm jealous of people who get to watch Serenity first (I d'loaded the eps from the US), so it's weird to me that some people aren't instantly craving more Firefly after watching that episode.

Anyway, he finally watched The Train Job last week, and the rating went up to good, so there's still hope for him. But he better pick the pace up (his current excuse is the olympics, so he can't use that much longer.)

Whadyall order a TV series you don't want for?

I do the following:
Tell everyone in video stores to buy Firefly - some look at me weird.
Put it on the top shelf.
Place it in front of crappy ass programs such as Friends.
Approach people looking at westerns or scifi and ask them if they've watched.
Swear in Chinese JUST so people will ask "huh?" and then I have an opening to discuss Firefly.

Proudly I state that I'm responsible for 12 converts (and counting). MoonMagick is coming with me to Chicago for the Browncoat Ball Weekend and Dana the other neighbor (in the Windy City for training) is coming coming just for the Saturday night stuff.

Both of their kids are whining about not getting to go and my husband is threatening to get even for no ticket by buying a Mal duster.

"Just keep walkin, preacher man."

I've never converted anyone! I find it very difficult, I've been trying to convert my brother, but he wont even watch the pilot!
Anyway...I tried to convert a friend, but I didnt have the time (because I left to boarding school in Scotland) but he promised he'd download the first 3 episodes, and then he'd buy a set (its very hard to get them in Mexico) if he doesnt find one, I'll give him one for christmas!

Keep Flyin'

I just got 3 converts the other day! I had set out to my buddy's house to hang out with some friends. The plan was to watch a couple movies and tear them apart. Well, that all changed when I brought Firefly along.

I suggested that we watch the pilot instead of one of our movies. One agreed right away, and the other two were more reticent. Well let me just say, the whole 'watching movies' plan went out the window. We didn't just watch the pilot, we watched the next five episodes too

One more DVD set sold! That kicks my total of converts up to 10, and a grand total of 3 DVD sets sold, besides my own.

Yay me.
