Browncoat Veterans for Truth

August 26th, 2004 8:35am PST

In a stunning blow to Kerry's campaign, a group, calling themselves Browncoat Veterans for Truth, have launched a media assault that could jeopardize Kerry's lead in the sci-fi/genre fan contingent.

As you may recall, it was only two weeks ago that Kerry, after being dogged for months to give a solid answer, finally went on record as stating were he President at the time, he "would not have cancelled Firefly." Kerry went on to add, "This show was a cornerstone of intelligent television. President Bush ought to have explored every possible avenue before pulling the plug. Instead he has sent a message to the world that America is nothing but a wasteland of reality TV."

This statement caused a jump in the polls, and was widely praised as a "shiny" move, but all of that came crashing down as the BCV released their first ad yesterday, followed by a barrage of interviews. An unidentified spokesman for the group asserts "This is yet another example of Kerry's flip flopping to appease public opinion. Dude, he never even watched the show! Not while it was on the air. He only bought the DVD set when he realized the movie would be made."

The BCV has provided documentation of an incident that transpired one Friday evening over an impromptu Firefly viewing party among a small group of Washington interns. A source reports, "I know for a fact he didn't watch Firefly that night. He was heading out of the office and noticed our group. He asked what we were doing, and when we replied, his demeanor shifted. He muttered something under his breath, and his colleagues laughed and then they all left. I was too far away to hear the comment, but others have gone on record as quoting 'What a bunch of losers! 20 bucks says not a one of them has ever gotten laid.'"?

Kerry's staff claims the entire event is a lie. "Sen. John Kerry has a proven record of Firefly viewing. That these detractors would call that into question is simply deplorable." Yet Kerry himself has not responded, leaving many to question his veracity. "If Kerry think we're lying, well, I invite that shun ya do mei poon gee ha nei gen** to sue me!!" the BCV spokesman replied.

Bush has fallen short of denouncing the BCV ads. His own record (he claims to have watched an ep or two before losing interest) was a heated topic after the show's untimely demise. TheMoviesOn.org ran innumerable ads last year, asking how Bush could in good conscience cancel a show he never even watched. Bush's stand has remained unchanged during the recent upheaval. "Listen, people need to understand that we made the best decision we could with the information we had at the tme. They didn't air the pilot. We had little to no backstory on any of the characters. Plain and simple folks, the Nielsen Report indicated cancellation was the only alternative. Besides, that River chick gives me the willies."

**our translators believe this means either "one-legged butt-monkey whore" or "lying monkey-sh*t butt-f*cker." It is difficult to translate due to a horribly mangled pronunciation.

(Hope you enjoy playing this game as much as we have!)

I always had a feeling Kerry wasn't being honest about his service to Firefly.
