Only the people working on the movie have copies. The studio will impose very harsh penalties on anyone caught leaking prerelease copies. Also, it's only done shooting, there's still a lot of editing & special effects work to be done.

You BLASPHEMER! INFIDEL!! This isn't an ordinary movie! To search for, nay, to even WANT a pirated, illegal copy of Serenity BEFORE IT EVEN COMES OUT is prepostorous! Are you crazy or just stupid?! This is the BIG DAMN MOVIE!!! To want an illegal copy like that is disrespectful! Wait like the rest of us and be damn glad that we're getting this wonderful film!

C'mon man! Don't you want to see it in the theaters first? If you truly are a Firefly fan, then you would support it in that way. Now forget what you said and go back to waiting patiently like the rest of us.

Every episode of firefly is better than most of the movies I see for my profession, and that makes it special.

Where did you get the idea that the film was finished?

They're done shooting, but it now needs to be edited, have special effects done, music recorded and plenty more. The finished film won't be completed for months.

The actual filming is just a small part of a movie, especially a science fiction movie with special effects and cgi.

i understand your eagerness and desire to experience the movie asap... but this is something made by people we care for, and would love to see sucessful and happy... so we curb our less-ethical urges and wait it out. its okay to want to see it, its okay to want to see it early, but its not okay to put that desire ahead of our friends welfare; the ones who worked hard to make a lovely film.

as for jaynes hat it is rather nifty aint it?

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the board SerenityFan2004. We are all glad to have you w/ us. You will have to excuse some of our less understanding residents.

As Haken said, the movie is in post production right now (editing & special effects). The trailer is due for release on Jan 14th w/ the Elektra movie. You should be able to find a copy of the trailer Joss showed at Comic Con in San Diego a couple of months ago on this site or the net. It is not the final trailer, but should give you a much needed fix until we can get more.

Personally, I want to wait until the BDM is released in theatres on April 22nd. I believe as fans we owe it to Joss and the cast to get into the theatres as many times as we can afford, taking w/ us friends, family and anyone else we can shanghai each and every time. If the BDM is a success Univeral will greenlight two more movies.

So how long have you been a fan of the show? Did you catch in on TV before the hwoon dahn Fox execs pulled the show? Have you picked up a boxed set yet?

Actually, I think this brings up an interesting point.

It seems general consensus here is anti-pirating or downloading. Good for us, I say. But new fans may not be as scrupulous.

I'm all about supporting Joss, the BDH, and Universal most of all. I will gladly over-pay New York City movie theatre prices to see the spectacle on the big screen, more than once. I also will try to support other Universal franchises, to show that as fans we're dedicated to seeing a Firefly/Serenity trilogy, and to thank them for giving Joss and the BDHs another chance.

I hope that the online community will be as respectful about pirating and downloading the film as it seems most of us here on FFF.net are.

Be patient, and then spend the money for a movie ticket, people. It will help us get a trilogy!

I go to the theater about once every 2 or 3 years because I hate screaming wall climbers, cell phones, and teens that think they are funny to everyone making stupid comments during the film.
BUT
I WILL be going to Serenity on April 22 even if I have to take the day off ( prob have to ). Why? Because Joss did not give up, and my few cents worth he got off me buying the DVD and a few more from others I bugged into getting it, gave him that bit more to keep going combined with all the others screaming at the top of their lungs for more Firefly. So he and the Cast that came back together deserve my full support and will get it by my ticket ( and my purchase of the DVD when it comes out with hopes that it has the full out takes of Firefly and FULL out takes from the movie )

I go to the movies even less often than you, and for the same reasons - although I did go see "Dodgeball" last month to support AT. However, the last movie I saw in a theatre before that was "Contact" in 1997.

When "Serenity" hits the theatre I will vote with my $, as they say, early and often. Joss and Co. have earned as much support as we can give them. I plan on seeing the movie as often as time and my budget will permit.

I will not be downloading it - ever. However, the dvd will have a treasured place in my collection right next to the series box-set.

Okay, serious response.

Not to spin the industry line, but that's someone's deserved money you are taking when you download a movie or a song. That's jobs, and more importantly that's creativity you stifle.

Sure, most of the Browncoats would go and watch the movie anyway, but what about the more casual fans - they see the movie on a crappy DL and tell their friends it sucks, so they don't want to go.

Well so now that we have decided to never ever download Serenity because it would be wrong, let's make sure nobody else does it either. So come April 22nd, if you see somebody with a video camera in the presence of our beloved movie, do feel free to break it in half. What is he going to do? Tell the police? So go nuts and break some stuff.

And if somebody on the street says "Hey man, want that "Serenity" movie?" Do feel free to stab them in the eye, so at least ONE kind of pirating will be over for them.

Someone said earlier that "April 22nd isn't that far off."

Yes it damn well is! If it was anything else happening then it would be fine but waiting to see Serenity is terrible - time feels like it's going backwards! April 22nd is going to take FOREVER!

IF the unthinkable happens and I find out that they're going to make us wait another six months or so in the UK I don't think I could stand it. I mean, I'm happy to wait with the rest of you until April but I'm not sure I could deal with waiting longer and knowing you lot have all seen it already! I'd have to either dowenload it or ban myself from any Firefly community to avoid all the "OMG! When this happened!" discussion. I don't believe I'm the immoral kind of pirate if I do do that - I own every single Mutant Enemy Box they've ever released, I'm buying the Buffy 1-7 Box even though I have them all seperately, I own Firefly on Region 2 and Region 1 and will see Serenity several times in the theatre and buy it on DVD when it's released.

Having said that, I'm certain I will make myself wait even if the unthinkable happens - I want my first experience in the cinema not on some dodgy copy. I'm praying with all my heart that we get it here in May at the very, very latest. Joss seems to love us Brits so I'm hoping we'll get it when you yanks do (not that it's up to him of course).

Some countries will definitely have to wait longer - especially where translation is concerned (yeah, we're happy to watch your films in "American" - unlike you guys who need some English films subtitling - WTF?) - I really pity those poor sods!

Sure I would...and I'd watch it. If you think the 18 people I've gotten into Firefly (of whom I bought DVD sets for 11) aren't going to make me go see it in the theater with each of them, seperately, repeatedly, think again. I'll see it several times in the theater, buy the DVD, buy DVDs to give as gifts and buy all of the merchandise they see fit to put out.
Joss and Co. won't lose any money off of me cause I watch a crappy version downloaded off the internet.

While I understand that people do watch movies they download, and then don't see them in the theater, I wouldn't do that. For one thing, my sound isn't as good. Neither is my popcorn.

I understand the idea that downloading illegal copies of a movie is bad, but I would not be a Firefly fan if I did not find an episode or two on the peer to peer networks out there.

I missed the original airings (thanks, FOX!). I only recalled the title, and did a search, and downloaded some episodes. That was what inspired me to buy the DVDs. Two more for my family and friends! Now I am a diehard fan, and will watch (and pay for seeing) the movie ten times when it finally opens.

But yeah, don't be a pirate!

No, Tash, no I would not. I wouldn't even be tempted. I've downloaded a few movies. I will see it at the Big Damn Premiere for the first time. I will see it at least a dozen times in theatres those first two weeks. I will not download a copy of it ever. No, I wouldn't download a bootleg copy of "Serenity". Why? It would be crappy quality and I want to experience it for the first time in all it's glory on the big screen. Not only that...I want it to be a success and make every penny it can. I would feel like I was taking money out of the pockets of all involved in the Firefly "verse". Sorry, but that really goes against the grain for me. "Serenity" deserves every chance and I want to see it get that chance. I respect Joss and his passion for this vision and I want it to be a great success. We need some positive energy, not its "fans" taking the wind out of its sails. No way in hell did GL go through what Joss did. GL pays his own money to make the films yes, but that's because he knows it has an established audience, and even though most people hate him nowadays, people will always shell out cash to see anything with star wars in the title. You are comparing hitler to lincoln here, it doesn't work.

LOL We don't need any slogans yet. There is no boolegged copy so it's not like the people who said they would watch are watching.
Everyone has to wait, so I guess we're all real fans.
Seriously though, I understand both sides of the arguement...so,whatever.

WINTERFELL

i got a question for all of the folks willing to watch the film early via bootleg or whatever. you know.. Joss, Nathan, Adam, Jewel, alot of the cast and crew are availible to us like many other tv shows/movies just don't have.. You could probably meet them someday you know? And when you're standing there with the captain face to face, eye to eye, tightpants to not-so-tightpants.. could you tell them you saw the movie bootlegged? could you say, nathan, joss, adam, whoever.. i downloaded the film and watched it 2 months before it was out (or whatever) and it was just amazing..

could you really do that??
you think that's a compliment??

being a recording artist myself, if someone got ahold of my music before it was released even if they planned to buy it on the release date, I'd still have no respect for them. that's my art man.. and to me, that's not a fan at all.

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I would have to admit that I would be sorely tempted to watch a bootleg if it were made available 'Tash, but I would not watch it. I would probably behave like a crack addict going through withdrawl knowing the BDM (in some form or another) was just a click away, but I would not do it.

Sure we can all say that we would watch the bootleg, then still go out and see the movie a dozen times or so, and I do not doubt any Browncoat who says so, but by posting a link to a bootleg we are causing a problem. That problem of course is making the illegal copy of the film more readily available to those that will watch the film for free, and not go to the theatre to watch it.

Casual fans and others will take the freebie and run with it, opting not to spend their money at the box office and thereby shorting sales figures. Will those people's lack of attendance really hurt the numbers for the BDM? Who can say, but I for one am not willing to take that chance. I would much rather have those people going to the theatre to see the film and adding their numbers to our own.
