Cross posted from the OB:

Hello Browncoats,
Well, the first Browncoat Ball in Chicago was a total and complete success and everybody who attended had a blast! Those Chicago Browncoats are truly shiny.

Now, looking forward, we need to start planning the Browncoat Ball 2005. It was originally planned to take place in Orlando, HOWEVER, there are several setbacks to that particular location.

1 – The Orlando Premiere shindig is going to take place there in April and it is going to take a lot of time and effort in and of itself.

2 – The Browncoat Ball time frame falls right smack in the middle of hurricane season, and if next year is anything like this year, our lives are going to revolve around the before and aftermath of the storm(s). After that is almost Thanksgiving, and folks will have other plans.

3 – Florida might not be the most central location to all Browncoats.

Don’t worry, though. There IS an alternative.

After corresponding with Rich (sendmeawave) and many Florida Browncoats, and in an effort to get all the South Eastern Browncoats involved in this project, we thought it might be a good idea to combine Dragon Con and the Browncoat Ball 2005 into ONE big event next year.

Mind you, this is just an idea. We thought that it would be shiny to have our BDHs maybe stop by the social event of the season. No guarantees though.

But, this *is* a democracy after all, so I will let you decide by voting which option you would like best:

A) I like the Dragon Con / Browncoat Ball idea - Let's shindig!!

B) Hey! I live AAAAAAALL the way on the other side of the country. How about a more central location? Dallas? Denver? Somewhere in Idaho? (Ok, ok, I’m just throwing ideas…)

C) Are you kidding??!! Florida is GREAT during hurricane season. I LOVE wind and rain! Let’s hold it in Orlando! :-)

D) I don’t care. I ain’t shindigin’ with you weirdos.

Well, you can cast your votes now. This poll will be closed by NOVEMBER 01, 2004. Majority will rule.

I notice Cincinnati ain't on the ballot. That seem right to you?

Just last Saturday, we had a big ol' Shindig here, and Susan (Flyhead) talked about having the BB here in Aught-Six. However, if you're looking for a place to 'dig in Aught-Five, consider the Queen City. One word: riverboats! (Not the gambling kind; the dinner cruise kind).

Oh hell yes!!! That would be awesome! I already had plans to go to Dragon*Con, what with how well it went this year and only 3 of our BDH's were in attendance!

To have both in the same place would rock muchly! Dragon*Con gets my vote :D

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

A!!! Option A!!! Most emphatically A!

I live in VA and that coupled w/ the fact that I went to Dragon Con in Atlanta kept me from the Browncoat Ball this year. If the two events were combined, it would surpass shiny.

Not only will it entice more Browncoats to attend if the Ball were held @ Dragon Con, but it would be great if the BDHs in attendance next year could stop by as guest of honor.

Of course this will mean having to come up w/ a costume similar to Mal's in Shindig, but I will gladly do it if the two events are combined.

Nope! Don't seem right at all. Ohio is the Heart of it all, and Cincinnati is the center of the 'Verse! LOL Seriously though, Susie (Flyhead) had a great idea with the Riverboat theme (can't get more western than that!). Plus we had 16 people show for our "little shindig", even after another 6 cancelled last minute, and by my count there are at least 8 (maybe 10) more people on our local lists who just couldn't make it this time. That is 30+ fans (not counting kids like mine who love the show too!) making up our local color!

I write my vote in for Cincinnati!

(but if not in '05, definately consider us for '06, because we SOBs (Southern Ohio Browncoats) want to do this!)

A - with a few reservations

1) I really would want to see this as a seperate affair from D*C ie- con attendence not required for the Ball

2) Hotel rates may be a bit expensive if we keep in the same area as the con where as just outside of Atlanta- rates can be a bit more reasonable.

*****
PLus side-

tho who knows- if any of our BDH's are there for the con it would be great to have them as guests of honor at the Ball!

For those that live in the Virginia, Maryland, North or South Carolina that would need a ride to Dragon Con, my wife and I live in Richmond, VA & drive down every year. If a Browncoat needs assistance w/ travel let me know.

If the DragonCon and the Browncoat Ball are "together," it makes it much easier for those of us who live no where near Atlanta or any of the other Shindig locations and don't have enough money to go to both.

I know I already posted, but this seemed kinda important, so I thought I'd post. I really wanna Shindig with a passel of Browncoats!

Thanks for mentioning that! We are also planning to do a Premiere in Orlando. Is there someone on the FFF board that is working that so that we can get on the same plan there too?? I know a few of us on the OB have been talking about planning a Premiere shindig.

I'd have to agree. This might be the only way I'd be able to consider going to DragonCon and the Browncoat Ball. I suppose if I do attend DragonCon, I'd have to submit artwork too. Then there's the roommate issue to consider.

I'm with the Denver option... mostly because I live there. I know we've got folks all over the place though I'm guessing our highest concentration is on the east coast. Guess I understand if the shindig takes off out that way.

Keep the topic active though, we may be able to make it!

YES! OMG, you're the first Browncoat in Colorado that I've met that I haven't introduced to the show myself! *My BF Laura is on the Comp next to me - I lent her my dvd set...* We're up in Longmont.

I am so for Denver. Admitedley, it isn't the most populated place, but everyone who would have to travel would all have to travel the same distance. Plus, the backdrop: Gorgeous! With the mountains and the plains, it'd be the best place for anything Browncoatie. Place my vote Denver!

Dragon Con is held in the Hyatt Regency:
http://atlantaregency.hyatt.com/property/index.jhtml

and the Mariott Marquis:

http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/ATLMQ

Most of the functions are in the Hyatt, with the dealer room, art room, and overflow going into the Mariott Marquis.

I heard that renting a suite for parties or viewings is ranging around $1500.00/night. That is the figure that was tossed out by the organizer of the Browncoats table at Dragon Con this year when the subject came up. Not sure if he is planning on booking a suite or not.

I hope to see you there Knibs.

So (and if I'm dense, you can tell me) are we doing the Browncoat Ball in Atalanta in sorta conjunction with Dragoncon this coming year?

I haven't heard anything official from Csteinme, but that is what the voting indicated to me KayleeFrye.

I told Jewel and her hubby Matt about the Browncoat Ball and that it might be held at Dragon Con next year. They seemed excited about the idea.

Well, I'm really late, but I definitely vote:

A) I like the Dragon Con / Browncoat Ball idea - Let's shindig!!

This was my first year at Dragon*Con, and I was AMAZED at the Browncoat turnout. It's only going to get bigger next year.

...still a little whimsical in the brain pan...
