CALLING ALL BROWNCOATS IN THE MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL AREA!!!

We have a place, we have up to NINE people confirmed - including yours truly!!

TOMORROW IS THE DAY!Channain will be at the Spyhouse early and have a sign out. If the Spyhouse objects to the sign (why would they, but still) she... that is I will be wearing a suede brown longcoat over a black shirt, with blue jeans and black shoes.

When:
Saturday, November 6 at 2:00 PM

Where:
Spyhouse Espresso Bar
2451 Nicollet Ave
Minneapolis, MN
612-871-3177
NOTE:We're holding to this listing for now. A new location may be chosen for the future.

Who's Coming
Knibblet
Hell's Kitten
Dre
Professor et al (all the way from St. Cloud!)
Dacute1
Channain

Be a jem and RSVP either here or at Firefly Meetup.
http://firefly.meetup.com/45

If there's an alternate meetup location you'd like to suggest (Cafe Latte?) feel free! The Spyhouse is the current location because, well, it was there so somebody must have picked it. I understand that several browncoats in the area live in St. Paul, with the exception of me and possibly one other. I'm perfectly willing to commute.

And while I'm at it, who else here is for the idea of us calling ourselves the Twin City Browncoats?

(ooooh - that almost sounds organized)

I draw...therefore I am.

I'd prefer "Brown Coats" since that's actually the correct spelling, but I'm anal (sorry, minor pet peeve; while I'm at it, shouldn't it also be "Twin Cities"?). But what do I know, I didn't fight in no war... I'll go away now.

Don't go away now, the fun's just getting started

Correct spelling of the words, yes. Correct spelling as a description of a rebel group? Who am I to judge? Has anyone ever made that distinction? Lots of folk use "Browncoat" around here, I've noticed.

Brown Coats = brown colored garment
Browncoat = tall fella in a brown colored garment with a big gun, twilight blue eyes and a devastating smile...dong ma?

Twin Cities Brown Coats would make us TCBCs
Twin Cities Browncoats would make us TCBs.

And of course "Twin Citiesez Brown Coats" is how it starts to sound in my head. Need more coffee.

You know I'm joshin' right? Honestly, I don't care how it's spelled. I like you - we should discuss grammar sometime.

When that ship bound for Grammarica sails, lemme know so I can go first class. I'm a sad little stickler, too.

And, for my two cents, I believe "Brown-Coat" is correct usage, but, as we all know, that'll drop in the vernacular. Just like 'Redcoats' for those Brittish troops who sought so badly to blend into the North-east Coast woodlands.

All in all, if it's part of story and/or character, the characters can be as horrible in their grammar as they please. I can't fight the whole Firefly Universe. Yet.

My ramblings. Not much, but I love 'em. No, wait... I don't really love 'em.

Shhhh! Don't say that too loud, the anti-grammar reavers will come and get us!

Seriously, ever notice how, when we try to let folks know how their abuse of the language makes our teeth hurt, they come back at us with a full barrage of "Well I was never a good speller" or "I never liked English so I never learnt it."

In this day and age of electronic communication, good grammar should be exemplary to minimize MIS-communication, yet it's getting progressively worse. That seem right to anybody?

Fans come and fans go...but zealots are with you until the bitter black end.

(swoon) I love you. (Just kidding honestly.) But I totally agree - the invention of internet and instant messenging chat and spelling aren't just creating and bubbling into their own pidgin/language in and of themselves, they're allowing it to pass by as the status quo. People being lazy and impatient... boils my blood.

But enough rambling!

C'mon Twin Cities Browncoats! Join us!

Look at that shameless bump.
On the other hand, I may be able to rope in some friends, so I might bring two or three more soldiers under my command. So that's a possible nine total. (cheer)

I'm done now.

How about that! NINE of us in one one room! All things considered, that's not a bad start. Revolutions have gotten going that way.

Just a reminder as to the when and the where, folks!

I'll attempt to drag MoonMagick along with me. Doug (who has a FFFNet ID but I don't remember what it is) should also be a willing attendee.

Wow, we're gonna have ourselves a right respectable party, provided everybody shows up. I'd hate to be singing the theme song all by my lonesome.

Do we still want to try the Spyhouse? I have heard of a place in town where the atmosphere is decided more Scottish. Fellas in kilts and everything.

Uh, kilts? No, I'd rather not..but sure, I'm still open to it :P

And singing? No one said anything about singing! What about we who cannot sing? Huh? Do I get points for lip-synching? Ooh, no, I'd be like J. Simpson and B. Spears, then.. @_@ 'cept for being a guy and all.

Well, there's gotta be a Dunn Bros. or somesuch in the St. Paul side of the 'verse. The Spyhouse sounds a little too trendy for my small-town sensibilities - and besides, I think the only Minneapolis Browncoat right now is me.

as to the singing, it's not required. Humming is good, keeping time on the table, or just that head-bobbing thing...

I don't spend a lot of time downtown these days at the moment, so I'm not ultimately sure what's downtown foodery-wise. A quick search turns up 3 Dunn Bros in St. Paul if we're still shootin for that. Or a Caribou or whatever also works.
I'll go the 'verse over in any case 8D

Ya wanna shoot for a Dunn Bros then? Any other hollers from people 'yay' or 'nay'?

PROFESSOR

Greetings all

Glad to hear this is going to happen. I hope it's OK to spread the word offline. We've got potentially 3 other non-board members interested in showing up, including the people who got me into the show. Was over at their house and she said "oh gee, we need something on TV to make noise, I've got this nice little DVD set of a show call firefly..." and then she sent it home with me :), and then she asked for it back :(, so I had to go buy my own :)

anyway, the talk was of grammer so I had to butcher it with a random run on sentence. I like poking grammer police.

Myself and dacute1 are pretty indifferent for location, we're driving down from St Cloud so it really doesn't matter where the meet is.

just make sure the final decision is posted.

see ya all Sat!!!

Prof..

NAY! I'm a Minneapolis Brown Coat, too. Like someone else already said, make a decision and post it here sometime before the actual shindig, 'kay? And if you decide to hold it in St. Paul, there better be damn good directions else I'll get lost and then I'll get mopey. And woe be to they who make me mopey! Well, okay, not really, but... nevermind. Uh, what was I saying? Oh! Not this, but here it is anyway: Is there a total count on the number of folks attending?

I think the best place for the Twin Cities Shindig would be the Day by Day Cafe in St. Paul. Day by Day has excellent facilities, excellent food, neverending coffee and is the funkiest shack in town.

They have a web site (including maps and directions.
http://www.daybyday.com

How is that for a suggestion?

Great spot! Except for the little problem of them closing by 3:00P on Saturdays.

All right - we're holding to the Spyhouse for now, just because it's Wednesday and the Meetup is in three days. We can decide then where we want to be in December - or if we're holding off until January, what with the holidays and all.

My suggestion would be that we do the Day by Day on a Friday evening next time - start our own Firefly Friday - and see where that takes us.

Just a few more hours and the Browncoats will be partying in Minneapolis!!

I intend to get there by 1:30 and have a sign out. If the Spyhouse objects to the sign (why would they, but still) I'll be wearing a suede brown longcoat over a black shirt, with blue jeans and black shoes.
