America loves a winner!

I hate to ask, and NO, I'm not being a troll. But it's a reasonable question and I've missed the memo. There WAS a memo sent out, right ?

So, Firefly or **Serenity** , I meant.Damn typos.

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

We're both dumbass!

When the movie comes out and we're spreading the word then we're all about that - but when all the little nerds come out of hiding and jump on the bandwagon, unaware of the TV show or saying stuff like "The movie rocks but the TV show sucked" (because nerds say shit like that to make themselves feel important) When they rag on our show or know nothing about it then we have to put our fine Firefly hats on and be all about television.

To perhaps express this somewhat more gently, since the movie has Joss Whedon directing and writing, has ALL of the original cast, and continues the storyline of the TV series, it is reasonable to view the movie Serenity as an extension of the Firefly series rather than as a separate entity. So yes, the answer is both. If the idea is to identify the proper label, I expect that "Firefly Fan" would still be appropriate as the movie isn't out yet. If there comes to be a larger fan base that identifies more with "Serenity", I shall be happy to morph along with them.

Yeah, and if wishes were horses we'd all be eatin' steak.

I'm looking forward to Serenity with the burning desire of a thousand suns. But it'll be kind of annoying when everyone loves the movie and I won't feel uniquely special that I'm the only firefly fan I know!

But, I'm willing to make that sacrifice for the prosperity of serenity and make sure EVERYONE goes to see it!

As Frank Costanza once said, "SERENITY NOOOOOOOW!"

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

As Spookyjesus and NeutrinoLad both said; we are both Firefly and Serenity fans. We are also Browncoats. No matter what the show is called, nothing can ever change those facts.

Not all fans of Firefly consider themselves Browncoats.
All I have seen of the movie Serenity is marketing. I may become a fan of the movie after I have seen it. Whedon has quoted Frost in the context of Firefly. Here he is again, in the context of Serenity.

But what some of you posted before is right: We're Browncoats, plain and simple.

I was wondering when this debate would start, I think if asked I would call myself a firefly fan
but a browncoat also has a nice ring to it. Even after the films release I doubt I'll be calling myself a serenity fan but Im sure people who only know of the movie will.

TENTHCREWMEMBER

Could you please just make it stranger? Stranger. Odder. Could be weirder. More bizarre. How about uncanny?

IMHO The answer should be "both" and we call ourselves "Browncoats".

That is for the real sci-fans, not to detract from those who will jump on the bandwagon or those who will maintain it should have stayed on TV, but like the "Trekkers" (and true Trekkers hate the term Trekkie!), eventually we'll be all lumped into one group whether we like it or not, so it might as well be on our own terms.

I soooo do not want to be known as a Fireflyer or a Serenitisian or something equally as gross, like say, Alliance. LOL

Real Sci-Fans Are Browncoats. ;) Let's make sure everyone knows it and not split hairs between TV and Movie (and hopefully Comic books!) and just bring the word of Firefly/Serenity to thems that need it!

See you in the world! (on 4/22/05!)

Very true; I don't know how those misguided Voyager fans get off thinking that their show's better than DS9 .

Still, to the best of my knowledge they all call themselves Trekkies or Trekkers.

Browncoats, that's what we are.
Some of our number refer to themselves as Purplebellies, but as long as they don't form an oppressive Allied government, I got no objection to that.

I believe that on at least one occasion you have corrected people saying that we are called 'Browncoats', repling words to the effect that: "Some of us call ourselves Purplebellies." I can't find the thread which you said that on, but I do remember it.
I think.

EDIT - It has just occured to me that I may have a problem with my brain being missing...

I'll keep an eye out for anymore. Got a friend who might think of himself more as a Purplebelly than a Browncoat, just to be different.
See if I can get him to join the site.

Great idea to get new blood of any colour to the site. I think I can see a flaw in the argument If you like being different, there's someone just like you there. I'm happy to work-share, though
