So Serenity has been delayed five months, I can understand that many of us are disappointed. But look on ther bright side, as Joss says in his message, this is five more months to get even more people excited about Firefly.

Look at the Scapers (Farscape fans @ www.savefarscape.com), look at what a huge campaign they mounted to bring back Farscape. There's a lot of passionate Firefly fans here. I think we have an opportunity to get more and more people excited about Firefly and Serenity. What ideas do people have for spreading Firefly, beyond just converting all our friends.

One campaign that I think the scapers did a great job at, was getting Farscape DVDs into Military Bases and Libraries. Libraries seem to me to be an especially great way of getting more people to watch Firefly. We have a affordable great DVD set, I think spreading DVDs could be one great way of converting people. Cause we all know that once they watch the show, they're hooked.

I realize that organizing a campaign the size of the Farscapers effort is a huge amount of work, but we certainly have the time, lets surprise everyone by showing the world how much we are dedicated to Firefly and Serenity!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I agree.

As depressing as this news is, and how difficult it will be to wait 4 more months for the BDM, it does present us w/ a great opportunity.

With four more months we can step up our guerilla marketing campaigns. We can get the DVD sets into more hands to convert more people. DVD sales can only go up which is great in the long run. The fanbase, which has grown since the DVD release, will only continue to grow.

I think a great way to placate the fans and generate more interest is to put up some promo shots and perhaps some blogs about what transpired during filming and after over at the 'Versal site. If we can see something it would go a long way to keeping up our morale and our determination to make the BDM a success.

Chin up Browncoats! We have more time to convert more people and swell our ranks. The more fans, the more movie tickets get sold. The more tix that are sold, the better the odds of seeing two more movies. Who knows where we could go from there.

If Universal wants a different demographic, let them have it.

Don't forget that extra five months put "Serenity" after all the major cons of the year.

Let's redouble our efforts to get fan tables at every convention between now and September.

See http://www.fireflyfans.net/news.asp?newsid=488 and http://www.fireflyfans.net/news.asp?newsid=489
for past military-related efforts.

Mutant Boosters are running something library-related as well, to which they're inviting contributions: http://www.mutantboosters.com/campaigns/?ID=wmp

I think now is when the newest browncoats should step up to the plate. I came to this party late (only bought the DVDs in May), by which time hundreds of browncoats had done their bit: got the series to 11 episodes, got the DVDs released, got Universal to sign up Joss for moviedom.

Now I feel like it's our turn! I'm grateful to those early browncoats who watched it from day one and nurtured it into the fanbase we have today. Let's show our gratitude by sharing the load today - look how far we've come already.

Off to (a) buy some DVD-sized presents, and (b) work on my first music vid...

(EDIT: Yikes! Where did my natural cynicism go?)

Agreed Techiecl!

I think that everyone who attends a con, regardless of how small from now until the BDM should endeavor to set up a Browncoat/Firefly/Serenity presence at these events. The more exposure we get by promoting the DVD set and the movie, the better off we all are in the long run.
