Last night I watched HoG and the scene where the woman (cant remember her name) is about to show Mal her guns (hehe) and Mal can hear Jayne upstairs. Mal says something about Jayne using up all of their credits. I tried to make out what Jayne was saying there but I can really hear him. Was anyone able to catch that?

Also tryin to remember if Jayne kissed her on the mouth too :)

Can't hear what's being said at the point you mention, but I thought about the kissing thing, and I'm pretty sure Jayne doesn't kiss her on the mouth. There's one scene (right after he shows off his guns!) that looks a lot like he's going out of his way to NOT kiss her mouth.

I believe that Jayne is outside teaching the ladies how to shoot because he says something similar to "The next person who misses owes me a special treat."

"Could be he's harboring some resentment at us for putting his man through our engine."

I'm Zark and I approve this message.

Jayne is, as usual, over-compensating for his same-sex orientation but is careful to keep his clothes on.
Also as usual, the wiki is a good source for scripts:

Mal looks out the window. We can't see what he sees, but we hear a cluster of gunshots, followed by the barking of Jayne:

JAYNE (O.S.)
That ain't nothin'! Y'all are
pulling, not squeezing like I said.
Next one doesn't hit that board is
giving up a special treat, < you
understand? > [dong MA?]

Nice try, PurpleBelly, but it seems more likely to me that Jayne is a pure sexual opportunist. That is (keeping this not too explicit) that he figures that any intimate act you can get someone else to perform is likely to be more fun than an intimate act you have to do your ownself.

He does tell Book that he looks for "a willing woman" rather than "a warm body" after an exciting mission, but it could be he's trying not to shock an elderly gentleman of the cloth.

No touching release dates!

Tells, exactly. There seems to be a narrative syntax in Firefly that people having sex take their clothes off; Reynolds, the Washes, Kaylee and Inara are seen associated with sex and no-clothes. Cobb is seen with fewer clothes when he's disporting himself in the Infirmary, but not in the whore-house or the mudders' cantina.

I think that nudity in a sexual context is somewhat associated with sophistication and/or intimacy. It sure didn't take Kaylee and Bester long to get dressed, which suggests to me they had most of their clothes on before Mal arrived at the engine room.

What a great scene. Not just the sex part, but the whole Bester " hey, don't we NEED that ? " bit.... hee hee.

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

Also, in Heart of Gold, Kaylee's wistful "I wonder if they cater to girlfolks at all" about the boy whores probably implies a "No"--so if Jayne's idea of commercial tasty was boys, all he had to do was say so. It's not like anybody thought he was the soul of respectability anyway.

That assumes that Cobb has an non-conflicted personality, which is far from the case. Cobb is afraid of everything, including his sexuality.

What I thought was fun is that Kaylee was not the least bit embarassed about getting caught having sex in the engine room.

She was just all smiles and perky as she always is!

Well, yeah. There isn't really anything wrong with having sex - unless you have social norms that make it an issue. She doesn't have a problem with it, which is one of the (many) things that I find very intriguing and wonderful about Kaylee.

So it seems alot of people here think that Jayne leans toward men-folk. I never thought of that untill I read that here. I guess I dont see it. I think Jayne might be insecure because he is smart enough to know he 'aint got the brains' that the other people on the ship do. Might be one of the reasons he doesnt have the nerve to come out and tell Kaylee how he feels about her.

Replying to Rabit--it could be that Kaylee is just very up-front about liking sex; it could also be that that's considered the normal attitude for a young woman. Clearly, there is still a category of celibate priests--but a society in which courtesans are not only not breaking the law but are highly respected is not going to have the same sexual taboos as our society does.

I'm with you. He is definately straight. Not only does he have man parts, I believe he uses them in very manly ways!
