Firefly Fans, HELP!!!

I am going to be showing Firefly in March at CoastCon (Biloxi, MS) and they just asked me to run a panel or two.

1. Anyone going to be there?
2. Topic ideas?

I like "Was Firefly too smart for TV?" and maybe a panel about fandom saving a show (but both of these may have been done to death already)...

What would be a draw for you guys?

(Note to Cap'n Tightpants and crew - a grand entrance would NOT go amiss... )

Jayne. Your mouth's talkin'. You might wanna look to that.

YT

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

Why did Firefly fail while Angel succeeded?

Keep the Shiny Side Up

Having run my own panel at Dragon-Con (unofficially, long story). The key to having a successful panel is to keep the audience engaged and a part of the the event. You don't want to go on just talking about a subject or else it turns into a lecture.

Keep the topics fresh. Don't be afraid to jump topics if one is dying or it seems like your reiterating the same points i.e. Fox sucks and here's why...

Since your showing episodes, start out by recognizing the people who haven't seen Firefly before. Ask them what they thought about it, but keep control of the audience from jumping on their back if they didn't like it or were confused.

Coming off that, don't assume everyone knows everything 'bout Serenity. When I ran my fan table at AWA I had lots of Firefly fans not even know about the movie. A good intro topic is just to do a quick rundown of the latest news 'bout the BDM, some of the rumors (of course leave the spoilers at home). etc.

Some other topics can be talking about the fandom's various efforts from promotion to the charity and of course combination of the two. You can direct people to the big websites and to resources to help convert fans & spread buzz about the movie.

Then of course there's the huge academic like topics to talk about: gender dynamics in Firefly, the various influences of the show, discussion of the episodes shown etc etc.

And a good audience participation thing is to have people share various convention "war stories" that either have to do with Firefly fans or running into the BDH's.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: accidnetaly put fantable at Dragon-con instead of AWA

Sure...if you pay my way and for a con badge and it doesn't conflict with MomoCon where I'm helping run a Firefly fan table there

I guess another word of advice is be prepared, make notes etc...but also be prepared to throw that all out the way and improvise at the same time.
