Hey everyone.

It's slow here at work and I'd love to get to know you guys a little more so I was wondering.

Which character from all the episodes of Firefly would you liked to have played, given the chance. Of course being a regular would be great, but outside of these guys, which part would you have loved to sink your teeth into, and why?

Personally I'd have relished the role of Early The way he moves and the whole physical aspect of the character aswell as the dialogue Joss wrote for him. It's so unusual for a character to talk like that.

So anyway onto you all :)

Commander Harken in Bushwhacked. So much misunderstood by most contributors to this 'board. Definitely a sympathetic character for me.

Unfortunately, I'm a little advanced in years for that role. Casting would probably have me down as Well-dressed Man in Jaynestown.

If it was a regular, it'd clearly be Simon. I mean, not only would I not have to worry too much about acting, (cause I really _am_ that bumbling and clumsy in social situations, as well as never swearing unless it's appropriate ;)) but also because I'd get regular scenes with both Jewel Staite and Summer Glau (and I don't care if she's _playing_ my sister, she's still hot. ;))

As to a side character... I can't really think of any I'd _want_ to be, but I'd be any of them (save perhaps Saffron or other females) just for the chance to be part of Firefly. I'd almost choose Tracy, except for the fact that he's too much of a dumbass for me to want to be him.

Hey he's a good one purplebelly

Would anybody like to have been one part of the Men with Hands of Blue?

I reckon if the show had continued these guys could have developed into two of the creepiest screen villains...

In Ariel the dark haired but slightly balding guy gave me the shivers with those eyes of his - very intense!!!

I get to BE "Mal" in many occasions in life. . .in Afghanistan as the 'noble sonofabitch leader-type', and in our little circle of friends, my friends often equate me to him(No. . .really. . .ask TheGreyJedi, our resident "Book", but as an amateur actor(Yay, Renaissance Festivals!), I gotta say. . .I'd love to play Mal, Wash, Badger or if they could have re-written the role as a male, Zoe.

I'm not that much of an actor.

At most I'd'a been a blue-hand, or generic background browncoat casualty, or another of Badger's, Niska's, or Higgins' thugs.

Wouldn't have minded the chance to throw spec scripts in that direction, though.

I often wonder about being a background actor? I imagine for some it's a fairly desent living.

I remember back in the eighties that actor Lance Legault who played (famously) Colonel Decker in The A Team, showed up in dozens and dozens of TV shows. Just off the top of my head : Airwolf, NightRider, Magnum PI, Streethawk and so on. I reckon if you can get it right you could have a fun time doing all those shows. Maybe being a guest actor is better than the main star, as they often become type cast and have trouble shaking that T.V. persona.

Just a thought.

One of the main, definitely River, I hate wearing shoes too. Besides seems like a fun role. And supporting cast, either Pedaline (don't know how to spell it) or Nandy in Heart of Gold. Something about the strong willed females in that one. Besides not to sound stuck up or anything but I'm better looking than the actress that played Nandy. Probably too young for that role though. Of course the bonus would be a sex scene with Mal.

I always thought the name Pedaline sounded vaguely wrong?? Like it was a bacteria or something. Or a tablet to cure bacteria.... Is that just me..?

And if you're better looking than the actress that played Nandy, well then you could do better than Mal !

You could do me for example :)

If appearance wasn't an issue, I'd like to play Fess Higgins, in Jaynestown. He got to be Inara's Client. Might be a bit old for that role, though. Lookswise, at least.

Otherwise, Sir Warrick Harrow would be a fun role. Rich, but not too stuck-up about it.

I've seen you and you know what? I'd have to agree on all points. Definitely Not stuck up, better looking - less scary in fact - than Nandy and of course the sex scene with Mal.

Who would I play? Huh. I like everyone so well the way they are, but I think Kaylee only without the hang up on Simon. She deserves better. Don't know who, but she does.

Outside of the main cast, I'm holding out for that bartender Mal had a three-week fling with after the war. I know - no such person. But had the series continued, that would be me. He could try to start another fight on U-day, but I'd end it. Good.

Me? I'd love to be Zoe. She just kicks ass!! Yes, I'm the wrong color and the wrong shape, and I'd need to be a damn good actress, since I'm nothing like that in real life, but that's what would be the most fun, right? I mean...I'm me every day! I think she's a highly underrated character...and the reason she's so amazing is that Gina Torres is amazing. Believe me, if I played her, you'd see a whole lot less of her. Oh, and she and Wash would be getting a divorce STAT.

Personality-wise (and this might be best with my acting ability, which is next to nil) I'd be better off as Kaylee. And if you wanted to reverse the roles of River and Simon, I could be the smart woman doctor with no social skills. I have sorta that 'take care of people' attitude, and I know medical jargon.

I wanna be Wash. But, as those of you with acutely trained senses have worked out, I'm not a guy. Probably wouldn't work out terribly well.

If i MUST stick to my own gender, I'd probably have to go with YoSaffBridge as a minor, or Inara as a major.

Maybe Zoe. Zoe's damn cool, but too humorless for me I think...

Plus... getting the chance to call Simon a boob on a regular basis.

i'd like to play the other ugly one in jayne's old gang that jayne had to share a bunk with. i love that guy. most important - no lines!

if i had to get a role with lines then i'd go for the captain of the ss walden. i'd like to see a spin-off series called "walden" about the crew of that ship.

I always loved that seen as a great way to establish Jayne and Mals relationship. Also the colours in that scene are wonderful - there's a gentle warmth to it, that allows the Mal and Jayne association to begin to work... That really is an amazing episode.
Funny I've just now started to appreciate just what a great director David Solomon is and has been on both Buffy and Angel... I knew he did several but I hadn't realised just how many of the really great episodes he had indeed done... and from what I can gather from all the commentary and the extras - he's usually under a great deal of pressure in terms of time. Seems he's the get out of trouble guy who always pulls it off.

I always thought she'd be great to play, because she goes through so many different moods/personalities etc that for an actress it must be a joy to play. You could take that character to so many places...

Cool character. Shame there were no commentaries for the shows she was in as I'd have loved to have more insight into that character from the actress or directors.

Zoe, of course.
Though Kaylee's mechnic skills might be more practical.
But Zoe is great - how often do you get a female character like that in a show - a fighter, but one who is already married, thus skipping all sorts of annoying storylines that male directors like to put in?
Personally I found Saffron always just a touch annoying... I wasn't so much taken in by her at first as wondering why on earth a character like that was appearing in a Joss Whedon show. But my friend finds the episodes with her 100% hilarious, so perhaps I should give it another shot.

IIRC Fox wanted a injection of trade-mark humour into the series, so Whedon wrote this as a piece, sitting in a coffee-shop one day. Like much humour, it works or it doesn't; if we had more episodes, it wouldn't matter so much. I would put up with anything to preserve Edmonson's opening score.

I don't really know. I'd love to play a female Badger (I know, I know but that Irish accent ) but barring that my other choice would have to be River.

I just love River's character and it would be amazing to try and play that. Especially with the lines they give her.

I don't really know the background characters but it might have been fun to be one of the two geishas in the window at the bar scene. Especially when Mal, Jayne and Zoe flipped around in the Gag reel and started singing.

AURAPTOR

America loves a winner!

That's easy. Wash.

In the thread that asks which character do you think is most like you, I said Mal. Wash, on the other hand, would be a hoot to play. He's a hot shot pilot w/ a laid back, almost Jimmy Buffett outlook on life. Quick witted, funny and not one for formality. Wash would be a blast to hang around. Oh, and there IS that thing about getting to do intimate scenes w/ one beautiful warrior woman - Zoe!! Oh yeah!

I thought about Jayne, but fundamentally, we're just too different. While I'm down w/ the whole -sex, muscle, thuggery - thing, Jayne is just too damned self centred. Granted, he does come through in a pinch, and he prob has a good heart, but he's clearly less of a team player and looking out more for No. 1 than anything. His drive seems to be how to get immediate gradification vs looking at things in the big picture. He lacks an introspective quality that Mal does. Jayne would be fun to play - for a while, but it would get old real quick.

Well I can't tell anyone apart so there we go. The only accent I can tell is the deep southern one and then the one from Brooklyn.

REGINAROADIE

Well, I think of myself as a better imitator than an actor, but if I were given the chance to audition for one of the main roles on FIREFLY, I'd like to have auditioned for all the male leads, except Book.

I wouldv'e auditioned for Wash first, because IMHO, he's the best character comedically. And I'd like to have been the one whose intro was with some plastic dinosaurs. I probably wouldv'e been called back to read for Simon though, because not only do I kinda look like Simon, but I kinda act and behave like Simon most of the time. I know. We all want to be the funny guy, but often we're the stumbling prude. I shave irregularily, so maybe I could look a bit like Jayne. And I think I'd have the same dead-pan approach to humor like Mal would have.

I dunno. I'd rather let the people who play these characters in the first place be them. No one else can bring to these roles the full fleshed out humanity that Nathan, Alan, Morena, Gina, Summer, Jewel, Sean, Adam, and Ron bring to their roles.

I'd be happy in just a cameo. Hell, I'd be ecstatic if I was a mere grip.

I would have been one of the women at the party in Shindig. I would love to have nothing more to worry about than looking pretty and going to a party.

I like Simon but he has too many responsibilities and stress. Kaylee is nice but I've been in her position with Simon and wouldn't want to have to replay it for film. You know, that position where you are hot for someone but he's not reciprocating. It's painful and frustrating. I feel sorry for that girl. I know how she is hopeful that he will eventually wake up and notice what a wonderful person she is because I've been in her shoes. Even if he does start dating her, ultimately, she is wasting her time by chasing after him because he is not very interested and will probably dump her the moment someone comes around who does get his juices flowing. At least that's what happened to me every time that I found myself in Kaylee's position. That will leave her feeling painful, foolish and used.
