I'm not quite sure if this is entirely the correct location, but given you don't seem to have a specified hazing area for the new folks, I thought that this would be as good a place as any to post. As the title implies, I'm something of a recent convert to to Firefly. A Browncoat, ne? I was aware of the series existing for the better part of a year, but hadn't had the pleasure of viewing an episode until a month ago. Given the series' short life, and the fact that SF is vilified in this nation with post-midnight scheduling, it was most fortuitous that I was working night shift when I first saw it.

How much of a fool was I to wait that long?

I've since gone out, invested in the DVDs, which might I add was the first purchase I've made without hesitation in a long time, and made sure I've seen all the episodes. (And most of the other goodies)

As a late start I'm sure I've missed all the discussions first-time round. Things like 'Where did I see Nathan Fillion or Gina Torres before', laughing to myself as some random Chinese is thrown in, or the numerous Star Wars references in Objects in Space. Yes, I think it was wrong for the network to pull the show so early, as there some much obvious potential for further development. Yes, I know there's Serenity, and that Serenity isn't Firefly.

So, I guess what I'm saying, more than anything else, is excuse my tardiness to the party.

Go check out the images inthe bluesun room for starters.

I am actually a casual poster over here. I spend most of my time on the Original Firefly board.

Others here may be better at the directions than I am.

What gave it away? The Queen's English? My natural charm? The fact that it's being shown at 1am everywhere in the country except my place, where it's on whenever I gorram feel like?

No, tell me what hinted as to my nationality.

The "post-midnight scheduling" and the whole "heard about it a while ago, never saw it until now and just bought the dvds". Pretty much my story too.

Hey Snowguard!

Welcome to Fireflyfans! Always good to meet a new browncoat. People are dropping in periodically so don't worry about starting a thread topic that may have already been talked about before, chances are that most people missed it the first time around and were wondering the same thing themselves.

If you're interested in digging through the archives there's some places to start. A little bit down the far right column of the main page there's a section titled, Message Boards. Each of these boards has it's own archives section. One way to get at those is to click on a particular board and scroll down to the bottom and click on the archived threads link.

For General Discussion, where most of the threads are located, the archive list is at:
http://www.fireflyfans.net/threadlist.asp?b=2&a=1

This might take a long time to load, dependant on your connection speed, since there is stuff going back to May 2002.

But the best way is just to post your own thread.

There are three kinds of people: fighters, lovers, and screamers.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the board Snowguard! Glad to have you w/ us. It's always a pleasure to have a new Browncoat onboard.

As far as excusing your "tardiness", perish the thought. Better late than never, right?

Since you are new you can go back through the archives to search topics of interest to you using the link that Soupcatcher was kind enough to provide. If you do not find anything, feel free to post questions or observation here in the general forum area. People here are kind and will not "ignore" your posts as some might believe (looks at TLACook). We are a friendly bunch & even if it is something that has been discussed before, we are always happy to chat about the show and the upcoming movie. Some may even post links to take you to archived threads covering your topic.

Again welcome!

Welcome Snowguard! Always nice to meet a fellow browncoat! As for where to start, there's a lot of good stuff at www.browncoats.com (check out the bloopers section -- maintained by yours truly -- under the episodes section)

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

Welcome aboard, mate! Tardiness is never an issue around here - we like Newbies!

Tell me, have you had any Firefly moments - such as, driving to work and a song makes you think about the show, or perhaps a moment of aggravation at work had you spouting some Firefly-ish sort of lingo?

Fans come and fans go...but zealots are with you until the bitter black end.

A rather shiny welcome to you. Snowguard.

Some of us have been here so long we forget that there are still "newbies" to be welcomed. Trust me, this is is the place for the Firefly Fans. The name says it all. We're a more or less jovial bunch & most any discussion started is bound to get a response or two if not more. I'm kind curious to hear your "Objects In Space / Star Wars" ideas. You might start a thread with that idea. We'll talk about almost anything. This is not just a "board", it's really a community. And newcomers are always welcome.

Well, I have to learn to remember that not everyone online is rude and hostile to outsiders. Thank you all so much for such warm greetings. I'm not certain that there is much more I can say about the show that hasn't already been mentioned. I have noted that there is a lot of fan fiction produced, and while I'm normally not partial to it, what I've glanced at so far has me intrigued. If nothing else, the cancellation of the series has seen creativity blossom in a number of writers out there, and that's never a bad thing.

You mean how I've started using 'Gorram' and 'Shiny' in speech? Something I'm sure most have done. The only song that make's me think about the show is the theme, which I've been singing pretty much constantly for the last week. The most noticable thing for me is that my annoucement on the PA system at work have gained a good deal of informality, as well as what could best be described as a 'twang'. My normal speech pattern would often make one think I'm British. (Merely an Australian raised by a mother who instilled the proper use of the English language) The first time I 'relaxed' the boss stared at me as if I'm been sneaking into the Christmas punch. It wasn't a bad thing, and from what I can tell, he's happy that I'm loosening up a little.

You have all indeed been most welcoming. I think I'll find myself a bunk and sail along for a bit.

If I might join in? I'm not new to Firefly (watched most of the original run, got the DVDs for Christmas, watch repeatedly), but I am new to the various boards dusted around the 'net. For many of the same reasons you've listed, Snowguard, I've kind of avoided posting (well, except when being elliptical and unnecessarily esoteric then vanishing into the dark). I like to get the "feel" for a board, argue till the urge goes away, or join in. I've been lucky here, because I've felt right at home just plopping myself down in the middle of something.

I have no manners. As illustrated by my joining your thread. Heh.

Just wanted to say "howdy" and try be polite, really. No one knows, really, who anyone is, which I think has a bit to do with some of the, perhaps, stand-offish or ill-advised behaviour on some of the boards. None of which I've experienced here. Of course, I am also careful not to get into the off-topic stuff in any of the forums, I tend to browse the Serenity threads in search of spoilers (which is how I came here in the first place) and topics that interest me.

My participation may increase as I jones more and more for new Joss Whedon stuff, of which there will be little to be had once the last season of Angel is released on DVD (Feb. I believe). Firefly is my "comfort" watching, and helps me tolerate the long, cold, dark, winter. In Utah.

Hey ReeQueen, always nice to greet another Browncoat. I've been reading Serenity spoilers too, and while there has been a lot of arguments both for and against the upcoming storyline, I'll take it as I see, which is going to be some way off.

On the shiny side, I'm watching at least one episode every day. Which reminds me...

Hey, yourself. I feel the same way about the spoilers, can't know what the movie's really going to be like (excellence aside) until we actually see it for ourselves. Opening night, and then again the next night, and probably repeatedly because I am that obsessive.
