This was sort of tough to narrow down, considering all Joss Whedon's shows are stellar. Here are my picks for each show's best season, and ultimately the best season in the Whedonverse.
3. Angel season 5.
Bravo. This was Angel at his best. It was a great season, and when the Ilyria story arc started, I was really blown away. I love the way it ended.
2. Buffy season 2.
I liked all the seasons, but season 2 is where I got hooked, so it is my favorite.
1. Firefly---
By the time Firefly ended with the airing of the pilot,(????) I knew about the cancellation, and wanted revenge. It's kind of like a prize fighter going 12 rounds, knocking out his opponent cold, and the opponent winning the fight. Too absurd to rationalize. The best season of any show I have seen. It's a good thing Serenity is coming out. Those of us saddened by the cancellation, will be avenged.

You will never get more than two people to agree on any one season. That is the beauty of the Whedonverse.

I love Buffy season 6 and Angel season 1

and of course Firefly but, that goes without saying.

Buffy: season 5
Angel: season 5

In both seasons, Spike makes the difference for me.

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

I think I'm one of the few people who liked season 4 of angel, however, 5 topped it for me.

I really haven't seen any seasons outside of 6 and 7 of buffy entirely in order(though I have seen nearly every episode, sans season 2(I know the plot and have seen most...but I never saw an ep with the first for example)

Anyway, season 5 of buffy, though I really liked the way the show ended for real as well...

What if I just put "All"?

season 5 of Angel - season 4 being second followed by season 3. and Spike really makes a big difference here

season 2 of Buffy - season 6 being second followed by season 3. but I really loved all of them, 4 and 5 not sooo much because Riley and Dawn got on my nerves big time, the rest of these two seasons is excellent as well.

and of course Firefly

Season 2 is my favorite from Angel. Buffy, season 3 is the best complete season of any tv show, ever. Firefly is the best half-season of any show, ever. OK, that's cheating - having two "bests" - but I think that's justifiable given the circumstances.

gotta agree with this one. the finale pushes it over the top, in my mind.

of course, the half season of firefly is right up there too as well as about the first half of angel season 4. in my mind, everything kind of fell apart when jasmine showed up. but there sure were a LOT of twists in season 4. that was fun!

My fav Whedonverse season would have to be season 5 of Buffy. Yeah..Dawn was annoying but that season had alot of emotion with Buffy's mom and the Spike element was great. Season 2 of Buffy a close second. Season 1 and 5 of Angel were my fav on that show.

season 5 of buffy for me, the arc is just...yummy. but for the record, i love seasons 6 and 7 and am not one of those jumped the shark people.

season 3 of angel, although i can't really make a decision on 5 yet because my taper for that season was not very reliable and a missed a lot, including smile time and most of not fade away (everybody cry for me!). but soon, dvd! :) and again, every season of angel was pretty much orgasmic.

firefly, duh.

so the best season overall? umm...i'm gonna say angel season 3...cause, yeah.

Angel - 2 overall probably, but if I can ignore the whole first half of 5, that'd be my choice. (Mexican wrestlers? Horrific imagery so bad they had to warn the viewers? No plot arcs at all? No development of Wes except in one episode? All that was fixed by the time we got to episode 100, and the last half was near flawless).

Buffy - the reverse - 5 overall, but 2 if I get to ignore the horrible filler episodes like Inca Mummy Girl, Reptile Boy, Go Fish, etc.

Firefly.

if you have cable or satellite, you can watch/tape angel every weekday morning at 8am on tnt. currently they are in the latter half of season 4 and season 5 to follow (obviously).

Finally, I meet someone else who liked season six of Buffy the best!

Angel is tough, they were all so good, but I'm going to say one too.

Buffy 3 definitely - every other line is pure genius.
Firefly 1 (sob - what they could have done with 150 off episodes)
Angel - 2 probably but I really liked the tone of season 1. Haven't rewatched a lot of Angel yet so difficult to say.

Overall - hard to decide between Buffy 3 and Firefly. Buffy the series will always have a special place in my heart as my first love but Firefly is shiny and new.

It's mean to make me choose. It's like choosing between two children (which is a bizzare mixed metaphor considering the first love thing, but slightly disturbing if not a mixed metaphor it occurs to me).

Buffy: 3, 4 (tied)
From the Mayor/Faith all the way through to Adam/The Initiative. Simlutaneously the transition from high school to college was happening and was fascinating. The intro of Vampire Willow, Anya, Tara... this era of Buffy served as my intro to the show and has a special place in my heart and loins.

Angel: 2, 3 (tied)
The return of Darla, the intro of Fred, Wes drops the comic relief and gets real... this is where Angel picked up steam and became truly riveting.

Firefly: 1 and only
Say no more (other than there should have BEEN more!!)

EMBERS

Buffy Season 4
(I know that that is rare, but I don't know why;
I loved Hush, Something Blue, Pangs...
and I adored combo Buffy defeating Adam,
and Restless as a finale)

and Angel Season 5
(in spite of the rush to finish it was still a wonderful tight story line with some amazing episodes...and Adam Baldwin!)

I feel sad about Firefly,
but I'm incredibly optimistic about a Serenity series
finally getting Joss the recognition he deserves!

Season 6 just spoke to me in a way that none of the seasons did. Maybe I am dead inside too.

in the finale, i LOVE his line:
"let me say this as plainly as i can. you CAN NOT beat me. i am a part of them..."

love that. it summed up his character's position so nicely. i thought he was so much more fun than eve.

MALICIOUS

For me, Buffy season 2 was the best. The overall arc, not the crappy individual eps.

Season 6 was my 2nd favorite. I love the one where the trio made her think she was actually back in LA in an institution. Just genius. Once More With Feeling...Buffy coming back to life...

Then, season 3 is in third. I adore the Mayor! Chastising Faith for her language...offering to take her to play putt-putt...the germophobia...Angel pretending to be evil...great stuff.

Angel season 1. Doyle...Leather-clad Wes...Cordy getting peanut butter in Angel's bed and blaming it on him...Wes dancing at Cordy's party...Angel imagining himself dancing at Cordy's party...hilarious.

THESOMNAMBULIST

Buffy Season 3: Faith, The Mayor, Leaving highschool, and the wonderful ending setting up 'Angel the series' plus fun all the way through.

Angel Season 4: Great plots, wonderful creatures 'The Beast', fantastic moral premise, hilarious mid season show, and a profound finalé. Plus Steven S DeKnight gets to direct one of the most brutal scenes in the show.

And Firefly - well it's just about the best damn show ever made for TV, Or in my case DVD :)

I reprint this because it's absolutely correct. Although, I think the cut of bestness also must include season 1 of Angel and 2 of buffy.
