Ain't it Cool News has reported that another screening of Serenity has taken place. With fewer Firefly fans present.

Thx LizWhiz - sure like to see the exit polls on that one. I wouldn't say that "sanding off the edges," (as the reviewer mentions to broaden the appeal) necessarily makes for a lesser movie. There's something in just about every ep of the show that could have been sanded imho. It's a movie, it's commerce - Universal needs it to appeal to as broad a base as they can reasonably expect to with this subject matter in order to finance the next BDMs.

I'd like to be king of all Londinum and wear a shiny hat.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Thanks for posting the link LizWhiz.

Good review. Nice to hear that it convinced the writer to check out the DVD set and see the other episodes. No doubt it will only deepen his love for the show & BDM.

I wonder what the audience spilt was and what their reactions were to the movie. I would love to see some sort of numbers to see how well she did w/ this test audience.

Glad to be of service. My heart always skips a beat whenever I see a review or mention of Firefly/Serenity. I thought I would pass along the joy. :)

pizmobeach:

I can feel you, my brother. But I gotta disagree. I am so tired of formulaic entertainments I could just scream. Surprise me, fer chrissakes!

The lowest common denominator approach to movie making feels more like the studios' are lifting my wallet. If Joe and Jane Average don't get "Serenity", screw 'em.

I want an imaginative, non-clichéd movie that I can't see the conclusion to -- like a slow-motion haymaker -- from about twenty minutes in. Especially since I know Joss won't cheat the details just to keep it mystifying, suspenseful. I expect to get an impending sense of dread, mixed with a reasonable hope for a happy conclusion, while never being able to guess the actual outcome until it gets there.

Kinda like Life itself. That's the value in JW's storytelling, to me.

Respectfully,

zoid

P.S.
I'd rather have one great movie than 3 homogenized ones.

My bad. I just reread my post and now I see where I said, "make pablum... don't be Joss Whedon... give into the dark side... stuff your art into that big cookie cutter..."
Seriously, "lowest common denominator," is a great phrase in terms of what would be a bad place to end up. I believe JW won't let that happen and I also believe that the relationship he has with universal won't let that happen. ... turns up microphone and stands on pulpit... and I also believe that Joe and Jane Average can *get* Serenity.

Well, I dunno...but something about that review just screams 'plant'. There's absolutely no real information about the actual movie itself in it.

I think what we all want to know more than anything is how big Book and Inara are going to be in it, given that they don't show up in the cast photos released so far.

If this review is not a plant, then it's just useless enough for me to want my 5 minutes of reading back.

Well, the review mentions the Reavers, so apparently we'll be seeing or hearing more about them. This is cool by me because I always wanted to learn more about them. Let's just count that amoung the million and one things Fox kept us from knowing more about!

I really hope they don't change much to get more appeal. It should be better for quality, not quanity, and they shouldn't do what they did with the Chronicles of Riddick.

Which is EXACTLY why I LOVE "The Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable." "Signs," not so much.

Well said, Zoid. I'm with you guy! I think there is one thing that really ties this community together and that is, we love shows that are real, even when they are set in unreal places.

It's about the people and how they handle life. I find that the Firefly community is a well educated, independant thinking group of people, and that's why I love these boards!

Love your posts, Zoid.
